Chapter 51: Digging a Pit for Oneself
The day after Mu Yanxiao arrived in City B, Mu Yanming finally felt the heavy burden on his shoulders lift. For the next five days, all he had to do was keep a close eye on the Mu Family’s prized pet, the big cat who seemed to have a higher status than he did.
Mu Yanming was quite pleased with this arrangement. Nearly two months of continuous work had made him painfully aware of his own shortcomings and just how difficult it was to make money. On top of that, he was still rather inexperienced when it came to the social niceties and verbal maneuvering involved in business dealings. Naturally, he was looking forward to these five days of relaxation.
However, the Mu Family Second Young Master’s hopes for five wonderful days were shattered before they had even begun. Early the next morning, Mu Yanxiao went to the company with Mu One and Mu Two, leaving only Mu Yanming and Lin You, the two masters of the house, along with Mu Nine and Mu Ten, who were responsible for reminding the Second Young Master about matters concerning his daily life and business.
Originally, Mu Yanming thought he could sleep in. After all, he was the only master left in the house, wasn’t he? Surely Mu Nine and Mu Ten wouldn’t dare splash him awake with a basin of cold water just because he didn’t feel like getting up! So Second Young Master Mu happily planned to sleep until ten in the morning. Instead, at exactly eight o’clock, a basin of cold water was dumped over him from head to toe. He immediately leaped up in shock, hopping around and shouting, “What the hell?! Which blind bastard dared to splash cold water on me?! Do you have a death wish?!”
However, after he finished shouting, the expected answer never came. Mu Yanming only heard two meows. Following the sound, he looked toward the head of his bed and saw a “big cat” with a leopard-like coat, a body slightly larger than an ordinary cat, and two little tufts of fur sticking up from the tips of his ears. He was holding his head high and looking at him with an expression that clearly said he was an idiot.
“You, you, you! You damn cat!! Was it you who dumped that cold water on me?!” Young Master Mu angrily wiped the water dripping from his head. The look he gave Lin You was practically murderous. After all, in all his years, this was the first time anyone had ever dumped cold water over his head just because he couldn’t get out of bed. Not even his grandfather, who doted on his grandson, had ever done something this nasty, let alone his cold-hearted, ruthless elder brother, who was always looking for an opportunity to torment him!
Lin You, the Lynx Cat King, couldn’t care less about the Second Young Master Mu’s accusations. He even rolled his eyes at him with blatant disdain.
“Open your eyes wide and take a good look. While you’re at it, turn on your IQ switch and think about it. Even if this lord is more majestic, graceful, and intelligent than your average cat… and so on, I still can’t carry a basin full of cold water and pour it over your head, okay? Does your brother and your grandfather know that your IQ is this painfully low?!”
Listening to Cat King Linlin boast about himself while mocking him, Second Young Master Mu’s expression could no longer be described with words like “speechless” or “embarrassed.” A murderous glare and a ferocious expression would be much more accurate.
“Mu Nine! Mu Ten!!” Since his brother had forbidden him from directly going against this cat, Second Young Master Mu redirected all his fury toward the Mu Family’s two designated underlings standing nearby. “Since when did you two become so bold? A cat’s words actually matter more to you than mine?! Think about it! That cat probably doesn’t even understand what he’s saying! He just happens to have a machine that lets him speak human language!! At his core, he’s still a beast, okay?! Ahhh—!!”
The moment Second Young Master Mu finished shouting, a cry of pain immediately followed. Mu Yanming covered his face in disbelief, his voice turning shrill with outrage. “You damned beast!! How dare you scratch me?!”
Mu Nine and Mu Ten hadn’t expected things to turn out like this either. Although they had initially gone along with the big cat’s wishes partly because they wanted to let the Second Young Master suffer a little, now that there was actually blood on his face, they were momentarily at a loss.
Of course, if something like this had happened between Mu One and Mu Five, the five of them would have continued beating up the Second Young Master without a second thought. But Mu Nine and Mu Ten obviously weren’t members of the core group, so they naturally didn’t understand what this big cat represented, nor did they know the absolute truth within the Mu Family: “Aside from Boss Mu, Linlin is the boss.”
“You two are still standing there for what?! Kill this cat!” Mu Yanming roared furiously. But when his eyes met Lin You’s, the lynx still stood there with his head held high. For some inexplicable reason, Mu Yanming shrank back a little. Remembering that this cat was his brother’s beloved pet, he gritted his teeth and changed his mind.
“Forget it. I don’t want to see him for the rest of today. Throw him outside or lock him in a cage! What terrible luck!”
Mu Nine and Mu Ten exchanged glances for a long moment. Finally, Mu Nine gritted his teeth and walked toward Lin You.
“Well… you saw what happened. You’ve caused some trouble, so you’d better stay in the courtyard for now. It’ll be fine once Boss gets back.”
Lin You, the Cat King, looked at the visibly nervous member of the Mu Family’s Number Corps and decided not to make things difficult for this kid. After all, when two Kings of Hell are fighting, whether you’re trying to join the fight or break it up, you need to be a King of Hell yourself.
Before being carried away, Lin You still shot Mu Yanming a look that the Second Young Master found especially infuriating. Yet, to everyone’s surprise, he obediently allowed Mu Nine to carry him away.
Mu Yanming was left somewhat dumbfounded. In his impression, this big cat had never been so easy to deal with. However, Second Young Master Mu was naturally optimistic, so he didn’t dwell on it. He simply planned to take a shower and start his wonderful new day.
While Second Young Master Mu was showering, Lin You, the Cat King, casually made his way from outside the villa to the second floor, much to Mu Ten’s utter astonishment. He went into his own room, dragged out a small backpack shaped like a gold ingot, opened it in the courtyard, and used his claws to pull out the latest “Mu Three-brand custom pet smartphone.”
Barely two seconds later, the call was answered. Mu Yanxiao’s voice came through, carrying a hint of concern and anxiety.
“Linlin? What’s wrong? Why are you calling me? Did something happen?”
By this point, Mu Ten’s jaw had dropped so far that he could barely close it. He silently cursed several times in his heart. An animal could actually make phone calls!! More importantly, Boss didn’t find this strange at all! He acted as though it were the most natural thing in the world!
Damn it! Damn it! Damn it! This was a lynx, okay?! Not a lynx spirit! Did he really have to act so completely unfazed? It was almost as though Mu Ten was the one whose worldview was abnormal!
“Meow meow.” Young Master Lin You began tattling as though it were the most natural thing in the world. “Your little brother called me a damned beast simply because I saw him sleeping in and woke him up. On top of that, he said my IQ wasn’t high enough to understand what I was saying. I’ve never been subjected to such contempt and slander in my entire life, so I’m calling to tell you that I’m going to properly discipline this brother of yours who looks like he desperately needs some discipline.”
Mu Yanxiao, “…” Why did he suddenly have a feeling that his little brother was about to be tormented to death?
Considering that Mu Yanming was still his biological younger brother, Young Master Mu decided to put in a good word for him.
“Mm. Discipline him however you like. His current attitude does need to change. Just don’t kill him or make things too miserable for him. After all, he’ll be living with you from now on.”
Young Master Lin You raised his nonexistent eyebrows at that. He then raked his claws fiercely across the ground and gave two dry chuckles.
“Don’t worry. The Lin Family’s ancestral motto is ‘We don’t kill idiots.’”
The idiot’s brother felt a little melancholy and vaguely helpless. Afterward, Young Master Lin You calmly hung up the phone. Under Mu Ten’s puzzled gaze, he dialed another number. Meanwhile, Young Master Mu was sitting in his office, feeling increasingly uneasy. In the end, he couldn’t help sending Mu One back to the villa to check on the situation. Of course, his instructions to Mu One were: prioritize protecting his Linlin, provided the Second Young Master wasn’t beaten to death.
“Hello? Hello? Who is this? This is Shenzhou Global Express! I don’t recognize this number, buddy. Where did you get it? If you’ve got something to say, spit it out! Master Peng is busy!”
A particularly strange voice came through the phone, at least to Mu Ten’s ears. It wasn’t that the voice sounded unpleasant. Quite the opposite. It was almost too pleasant. Even though the tone carried a hint of impatience, it still made Mu Ten feel an inexplicable flutter in his heart. He frowned.
Young Master Lin You, however, remained remarkably calm. He spoke into the phone.
“Lil’ Fish, it’s me. Bring me a large bag of that Z product from my shop’s warehouse. As for the payment, which currency do you want?”
There was a brief silence on the other end before a startled shriek rang out.
“Holy crap!! Weirdo Lin, you actually haven’t kicked the bucket yet?! Where have you been all this time?! Do you know your shop is practically overflowing with stock?! There are already more than a hundred traders waiting for their orders who can’t take it anymore. They’re practically surrounding your shop every day, ready to rob it outright! If it weren’t for that vicious Little Uncle of yours stationing five or six ferocious beasts there to guard it, your shop would’ve been cleaned out ages ago!!”
Lin You sighed when he heard this. He had known his shop would be in terrible shape after something happened to him, but no matter how badly he wanted to salvage it, with his current body, it was truly as difficult as ascending to heaven… He couldn’t help raking his claws against the ground in frustration.
“Anyway, I’m in a special situation right now and can’t go back for the time being. Don’t ask about the rest. Just hurry up and send me what I need. I’ll pay you double when the time comes!”
“Tch, I really was short on money before, but these days I can make several million in a matter of minutes. Don’t think your little bit of money can buy me off~ Since you’re in trouble, this delivery is on the house. Just remember to recommend my Shenzhou Express to your friends later! Hehehehe. I even delivered something to a zombie out west a few days ago~ But I’ve been wondering, why don’t zombies these days look anything like zombies?”
Lin You curled his lip at that.
“Who cares whether he looks like a zombie or not? Where are you even going to find zombies these days? Besides, as long as he doesn’t owe you money, isn’t that enough? Shut up. Stop rambling and deliver the goods!”
This lord was going to use his “miracle medicine for curing chuunibyou, tsundere syndrome, and all sorts of other IQ-related ailments,” which was unrivaled throughout the entire Cultivation Realm, to properly discipline that hopeless second brother who was so utterly incapable of being helped!
Hehe. If his owner found out about this, he would definitely give him thirty-two likes.
