Chapter 54: Don’t Touch My Tail
Although Mu Yanxiao suspected he had most likely walked into the wrong room, he had barely taken a single step back when Mu Two and Mu Five, who were following him, pointed out a rather perplexing reality.
“Boss? Why are you retreating? Is something wrong at home?” Mu Two asked, immediately sending Mu Five to check what was going on. Mu Five quickly darted inside, took a look, and just as quickly returned with a bewildered expression. “Second Brother, there’s nothing wrong! Everything inside is perfectly normal. In fact, the atmosphere is really great!”
Mu Two felt a wave of relief upon hearing this, but it was instantly replaced by a sudden sense of unease. He didn’t share Mu Five’s obliviousness. Given the Second Young Master’s usual temperament and recent behavior, an exceptionally pleasant atmosphere at home actually meant that something was very wrong.
With that thought, Mu Two was about to go inside and take a look, but Mu Yanxiao finally stopped him.
“Let’s go in.” Whatever might be happening, Mu One hadn’t raised any alarm. Furthermore, Mu Nine and Mu Ten were inside as well, so it was unlikely that anything life-threatening had happened.
Inside the room, Mu Yanming and Lin You, the Great Immortal, had both witnessed their brother/master repeatedly coming and going without actually entering. Just as they were wondering what on earth was wrong with him, Mu Yanxiao and the other two finally walked in.
Lin You, the Great Cat Immortal, swiftly smacked a paw against Mu Yanming’s thigh. Mu Yanming jolted and instantly sprang up from the sofa. He stood ramrod straight, his expression filled with profound respect and obsequiousness.
“Brother, you’re back! You must be exhausted! Please, sit down and rest for a while! Are you hungry? Just tell me what you want to eat, and I’ll go get it right away!”
This time, it wasn’t just Mu Yanxiao who found the behavior abnormal. Even Mu Two and Mu Five stared at Mu Yanming as if he were some kind of monster. As for Mu One, Mu Nine, and Mu Ten, although they had been mentally prepared for this, they were still shocked when they actually witnessed it.
Apart from Lin You, the Great Cat Immortal, and the Second Young Master himself, everyone else in the room thought the Second Young Master had definitely taken the wrong medicine.
“Brother? Why are you still standing? Come sit down! Standing for too long is bad for your eyes!”
Mu Yanming hurried forward and helped his brother sit down on the sofa. Although Mu Yanxiao was somewhat surprised by the change in his troublesome younger brother, he quickly regained his composure after recalling the contents of the phone call he had received from his pet earlier. He couldn’t help but marvel inwardly.
Spirits truly were something else! All those years of cultivation hadn’t gone to waste. In such a short time, Lin You had already managed to train his brother into someone considerably less exasperating.
Still, Young Master Mu managed to strike just the right note as he expressed both puzzlement and a hint of praise toward his younger brother.
“Yanming, did you take the wrong medicine? How have you suddenly become so sensible?”
Upon hearing his brother’s question, which seemed to hover somewhere between a compliment and a jab, Mu Yanming’s lips twitched in exasperation. His expression was filled with melancholy and resignation.
“Don’t worry, Brother! For the sake of your personal safety and the safety of our entire family, I’m definitely going to turn over a new leaf and start living right!”
Mu Yanxiao, “…” Verdict: His brother had indeed taken the wrong medicine, and there was no saving him now.
Seeing his brother’s completely dismissive expression, the Second Young Master silently shed a tear of self-pity.
Brother! You have no idea that I’ve been threatened by a cat spirit for your sake! To ensure our family’s future safety, I am truly sacrificing myself for the well-being of the entire Mu Family!
Wow, I suddenly feel so noble.
With that thought, the Second Young Master silently gave himself thirty-two mental thumbs-up.
Fortunately, Mu Yanming’s “I am the savior of the world” expression wasn’t seen by his brother. Otherwise, the guy would probably have received his brother’s “fist of love” in short order.
Because that expression went unseen, the atmosphere within the Mu household remained quite pleasant.
“Alright, there’s plenty to do tomorrow, so let’s have dinner and get some rest,” the Big Boss ordered.
Mu Nine and Mu Ten promptly summoned the chef to prepare dinner. Whether at the villa in City A or the one in City B, the Mu Family preferred not to have many service staff. They employed only designated personnel such as a chef, gardener, and cleaner, doing their best to protect the privacy of their home.
For Lin You, dinner was a truly sumptuous affair. There were white boiled shrimp , steamed sea bass , cold noodles with shredded chicken , baby bok choy with minced garlic , and an assorted mountain delicacies soup . Though the spread wasn’t particularly large, both the variety and flavors were perfectly suited to a certain big cat’s palate.
After finally finishing dinner and spending some time basking in the moonlight, it was time to turn in for the night. Mu Yanxiao scooped up the big cat, who was busy pawing at a small soft cushion, and, stroking those tufted ears with amused interest, asked, “What did you do this afternoon? How did Yanming suddenly end up like that?”
Lin You, the Great Cat Immortal, gave a little chuckle and let out several “meows” at his oblivious owner. His short tail wagged happily from side to side.
Mu Yanxiao raised an eyebrow. “Speak in human language.”
Young Master Lin You paused for a moment before speaking with a haughty air.
“Hehe, all you need to know is that from now on, that troublesome younger brother of yours will be under my guidance. I’ll steer him away from his hopeless path as a spoiled young master and turn him into a well-rounded, upstanding young man. Give me a month, and I’ll have him properly whipped into shape! Of course, that only covers his attitude and mindset. As for his intelligence and work performance, you’ll still have to work on those.”
Mu Yanxiao chuckled softly. He stroked the big cat’s back down to the tip of his tail, gave him a gentle rub, and said, “As long as you can straighten out his mindset, I can get his intelligence and work performance up to scratch in three months.”
Young Master Lin You couldn’t help but let out a “meow.”
“Tch, I knew it. Your work isn’t actually all that impressive. Being able to learn how to handle a company’s affairs in just three months? That’s far too simple.”
Mu Yanxiao reached out and pinched the very tip of his pet’s tail.
“You think it’s simple? How about I train you for three months and let you give it a try? Then you’d be the world’s first cat capable of managing corporate affairs.”
With the tip of his tail held, Lin You shuddered as the scorching warmth of that palm made him tremble all over. The sensation was strange and unsettling, leaving him restless and unable to shake it off. Finally, thoroughly annoyed, Lin You twisted around and fiercely bit down on that detestable hand!
He even let out an angry roar for good measure.
“Fuck! Let go of my tail!”
Boss Mu answered with a low, malicious chuckle.
“Hehe. If you’ve got the guts, why don’t you bite me?”
Lin You, the Great Cat Immortal, “…” Do you want to see me claw your face to shreds? Or maybe… shred your balls?!
Of course, Great Cat Immortal Lin You never actually carried out that threat. Otherwise, when Young Master Mu woke up the next morning, he wouldn’t have looked so “radiant and spirited.” He would have looked “haggard and worn out” instead.
“Yanming, you can take Linlin out for a stroll over the next couple of days. Go see some of the more interesting and meaningful places in City B. You can bring someone along to keep you company if you like, but surely you know which places are appropriate to visit and which ones aren’t, right?”
Young Master Mu spoke with a condescending air as he held his precious pet, who was still nursing a one-sided grudge against him.
Upon hearing that he was actually allowed to go out, Mu Yanming was naturally overjoyed. His face lit up with excitement as he nodded vigorously.
“Don’t you worry, Brother! I’d sooner lose an arm or a leg than let Immortal Lin, er, I mean Linlin, lose even a single hair! You just focus on your work, Brother! Once I’ve had a chance to unwind these next few days, I’ll come back and help you out! Safe travels, Brother! Rest easy!”
Mu Yanxiao couldn’t help but rub his temples. He had the distinct feeling that his younger brother was racing headlong from one kind of headache-inducing situation straight into another.
With a soft sigh, Young Master Mu stroked his pet from head to tail once more. Only after receiving several disdainful swipes of his paws did he finally put Linlin down and leave with Mu One and Mu Two. The moment Young Master Mu was finally gone, Mu Yanming let out an excited howl.
“I can finally get out of here! Hahaha! I’m going straight to K-Bar to have a blast!”
The Mu Family’s Second Young Master was still grinning as he prepared to summon his rowdy cronies. But halfway there, he caught sight of Linlin, the Great Cat Immortal, perched on the armrest of the sofa. The cat exuded an air of elegant, imperious majesty, his deep amber eyes fixed on him with a hint of wickedness.
The Second Young Master instantly wilted.
“Ahem, well, Great Immortal Lin… er, Linlin, how about I take you somewhere really fun?”
Mu Yanming felt his confidence waver under the Great Immortal Cat’s stare. Still, he reasoned that even if it were a spirit, surely it had never visited places like K-bars or nightclubs. If that was the case, he might still have a chance to lure it there!
“A fun place?”
Linlin, the Great Immortal Cat, casually lifted a paw and began licking it.
“Exactly, exactly! There’s food, drinks, entertainment, pretty girls, and spectacular performances. The place is absolutely buzzing!” Mu Yanming tried his best to paint a vivid picture using the most enthusiastic words he could muster. Finally, he added, “It’s seriously a blast!”
Lin You looked at this dim-witted Second Young Master who was still trying to play mind games with him and flicked his short tail.
“Hehe.”
Mu Yanming, “…” Why do even spirits say “hehe”?!
He felt like his intelligence was being looked down upon!
“I also know of a truly wonderful place. There are exotic delicacies and fine wines, magnificent palaces and breathtaking beauties. In fact, anything you can possibly imagine can be found there. Do you want to go see it?”
Lin You, the Great Cat Immortal, spoke in a leisurely, unhurried tone, his words stirring a deep sense of curiosity in Mu Yanming. It wasn’t just Mu Yanming. Even Mu Five, Mu Nine, and Mu Ten felt a spark of curiosity after hearing his description of this wondrous place.
Mu Yanming was still somewhat skeptical.
“Are you serious? Is there really a place where anything you can imagine simply appears? If such a place existed, there’s no way I wouldn’t know about it in City B!”
The Great Immortal slowly curled his three-petaled mouth into a smile that looked rather uncanny.
“Of course such a place exists. I’ll take you there and let you see for yourself! You’ll be absolutely astonished and delighted once you get there.”
Hehe.
