Chapter 71: Nothing Is Too Strange

Garfield woke up bright and early that morning in a state of great excitement, because today his old master was taking him to visit that human named Mu Yanxiao. Of course, Garfield wasn’t excited about seeing the human. He was excited because visiting that human meant he would get to see Linlin, the only animal friend who truly appreciated his intelligence and was on the same wavelength as him.

Of course, Linlin wasn’t exactly a friendly animal friend. But considering that good friends were easy enough to find these days while an unfriendly kindred spirit was rare, Garfield still decided that he had to go see him.

He would never admit that the biggest reason was because his current size gave him an overwhelming advantage over a certain fellow who had once pinned him down. Hehe! Green turtles really were Garfield’s favorite kind of creature—flipping one over with a single paw was just too easy and satisfying~ And so, Garfield happily followed his old master to the First Hospital. But the moment he reached the patient’s floor, his remarkably accurate animal instincts suddenly told him that something wasn’t quite right.

Before he could figure out why, a round, springy tennis ball rolled right up to his paw. Without even thinking, Garfield slapped a paw down on it. After all, whether you were a cat or a dog, a round ball was always irresistibly tempting.

Garfield instinctively started to play with the round tennis ball, but the instant his paw moved, a sense of mortal danger swept through him, making every hair on his body stand on end.

As a godlike pet who prided himself on possessing the highest IQ around, Garfield reacted at top speed and jumped back a step. The ground trembled slightly. His gaze moved upward from the tennis ball, and reflected in his glassy feline eyes was the face of a stupid husky whose very existence filled him with instinctive disgust and the overwhelming urge to scratch him.

The stupid husky pinned the tennis ball beneath one fat paw and stared straight at Garfield with those glassy eyes, each with a tiny black pupil in the center. And unless Garfield was seeing things, those bean-shaped eyebrows had actually lifted provocatively?!

Garfield instantly felt that this stupid dog had insulted his intelligence.

“Meow-ow—!!” Garfield yowled furiously.

“Stupid dog!! Where the hell did you come from?! Don’t you know dogs aren’t allowed in here?!”

Garfield was using his own language to look down on this mute, stupid dog. But to his utter astonishment, the other party actually opened his doggy mouth, revealing rows of sharp canine teeth, and barked twice.

“You damn fat cat! I’ve disliked you for ages! You deliberately flipped me over last time, didn’t you?! Didn’t Young Master Lin tell you? What goes around comes around—and today it’s your turn to roll over!!”

Garfield instantly understood why he’d had such a bad feeling all morning. Unfortunately, that realization came far too late. He didn’t even have time to dodge. But even a doomed cat had to struggle, so Garfield spun around and tried to flee. Just as he was about to make his escape, Husky Lin You exploded into action, drawing out more strength than usual from his thick little hind legs. With a flying leap, he pounced straight onto Garfield and, without the slightest hesitation, flipped him over with one paw.

“Hehe!” Husky Lin watched the fat cat roll several times across the floor, feeling immensely satisfied. “Now you understand, don’t you? Young Master Lin is teaching you a lesson: don’t court death if you don’t want death to come knocking later! It’s not that payback never comes—the time simply hadn’t come yet! Hmph!!”

Garfield finally came to a stop beside the wall, completely dizzy from all the rolling. By the time he recovered, the proud, energetic cat who had swaggered into the room was gone, replaced by a pitiful creature who looked as though he’d just suffered horrific abuse.

The sight made Grandpa Albert’s heart ache terribly. He hurried forward and scooped his beloved pet into his arms, then turned accusingly toward a certain blind master who was calmly sitting on the bed drinking tea.

“Oh! Mu! You can’t do this! Garfield and I came all this way to visit you today. We’re your guests! How can you let your new pet bully my Garfield like this? God knows, my Garfield is such a weak, gentle little thing! Your husky is simply far too rough!!”

As another shameless owner who spoiled his pet rotten, Young Master Mu didn’t take Grandpa KFC’s accusations seriously in the slightest. He curled his lip and replied dismissively, “First of all, you definitely didn’t come here just to visit me. Our contract officially takes effect in a few days, so you must have something you want to discuss. Second, Albert, stop lying to my face. When Garfield flipped my turtle Linlin onto his back, I didn’t hear you calling him weak and helpless. My Linlin already said that what goes around comes around. Last time Garfield flipped over my turtle Linlin, and this time Husky Linlin flipped over your Garfield. What’s unfair about that?”

Albert’s mouth twitched violently.

How was that even remotely the same?! Last time, that turtle had merely spent a while lying on his back with all four feet in the air. This time, his Garfield had rolled several times across the floor and was still shaking his head! Still… considering they had business to discuss later, perhaps it was better to let the pets settle their own grudges.

Although, judging by their sizes, Garfield was definitely at a disadvantage…

Fortunately, the husky was still only a puppy.

“Mu, for your sake, I won’t pursue this matter between the pets. But we still need to properly discuss our business. Come, let’s go over everything in detail. As for the pets, let the two of them play by themselves! It’ll be good for them to deepen their friendship.”

And so, under his beloved pet’s deeply resentful gaze, Grandpa Albert put Garfield down without the slightest trace of guilt and allowed the swaggering Husky Lin to stare menacingly at him as the two pets left the ward.

Garfield was forced to follow behind Dog King Lin, forced to ride the elevator, and forced to enter the hospital courtyard.

“Woof woof.” Why are you so listless? You look like your dad just died! Young Master Lin didn’t even abuse you, much less say he was going to bite you to death!

In crowded places, Young Master Lin was always careful not to attract too much attention. So even though he could speak human language now, he decided to communicate using the common animal language instead.

Garfield truly deserved his reputation as one of the very few exceptionally intelligent pets capable of keeping up with Lin You. The moment Young Master Lin stopped using the translator, Garfield readily followed his lead and stopped using his own machine as well.

“Meow~”

“ I-I… You’re not going to hit me again, are you?”

Husky Lin snorted through his nose and whimpered.

“I already beat you up once. Why would I bother doing it again? Do you think I have that much time and energy to waste? I brought you down here to walk around and have some fun. So, can you use your gold card yet? Let’s go buy something at the convenience store!”

Garfield’s eyes immediately lit up, and he nodded enthusiastically.

His owner had reluctantly given him a gold card after Garfield threw a spectacular tantrum over it, but heaven knew that whenever he went out, three or four human servants always followed him around! No matter what he wanted to eat or buy, those servants would rush forward to pay first, leaving Garfield with absolutely no opportunity to experience the accomplishment and joy of paying for something himself!

Now his master wasn’t here!

The servants weren’t here either!!

Meow Lord was the boss now!!

Garfield lifted his tail proudly and was just about to stride forward when he suddenly felt a murderous gaze sweep over from beside him. His raised paw froze in midair. He made two soft rumbling noises and quietly took a step back.

Fine!

In the noble spirit of sacrificing himself for the great cause of harmonious and loving relations between cats and dogs, Garfield would graciously allow the husky beside him to go first.

But! That absolutely did not mean Garfield was afraid!

Definitely not!!

And so, an unusual sight appeared in the First Hospital: a husky puppy swaggering toward the hospital supermarket with a golden-furred Garfield cat following behind him.

They attracted plenty of attention along the way, with most of the patients marveling at how harmoniously the cat and dog seemed to get along.

“Oh my gosh, they’re so cute! Cats and dogs, one big loving family! Quick, take a picture so I can post it on Weibo!! I’ve finally found proof that cats and dogs can love each other! I’m going to make all those idiots who insist cats and dogs can never live peacefully together admit how wrong they are!”

Even though the female patient was sitting in a wheelchair, she was full of energy as she enthusiastically snapped pictures with her phone.

“Huh! This dog and cat aren’t fighting! That’s fucking strange. Did these two come to the hospital because there’s something wrong with their brains too?”

This came from a certain burly man from the countryside. Young Master Lin You led Garfield straight to the supermarket entrance without taking a single wrong turn. When the automatic sensor doors opened for them, both animals immediately decided that the supermarket deserved a like.

How incredibly convenient for pets! Such thoughtful, humane design!

They would definitely shop here again!

The supermarket greeter standing beside the entrance instinctively turned with a smile when the doors opened.

But all she saw at eye level was empty air.

The “Welcome!” that had already reached the tip of her tongue abruptly lodged itself in her throat.

“That’s strange… Why did the door open when nobody’s there?”

The greeter couldn’t make sense of it. But before she had much time to wonder, she suddenly felt something furry and soft brushing against her calf. Don’t assume that a person’s first reaction in this situation would be to look down. The correct reaction was obviously—to scream at the top of their lungs.

Just like this supermarket greeter.

“AAAAH—!! Something furry is rubbing against my leg!!”

Lord Garfield, who happened to be the furry thing rubbing against her leg, immediately became very unhappy upon hearing that scream. He decided that he was definitely giving this greeter a bad review later.

With such terrible nerves, how could she possibly be considered a qualified greeter?!

“Woof woof!!”

“What an overdramatic woman! Look down already!”

As an animal possessing a human soul, Lin You was also somewhat dissatisfied with this woman’s complete lack of composure.

How could a human embarrass herself in front of animals like this?!

Hearing the two barks, the greeter, Zhang Fang, abruptly lowered her head. What entered her vision was a husky puppy around two or three months old and a plump Garfield cat.

Realizing that one of those two had probably been what rubbed against her leg, Zhang Fang flushed bright red with embarrassment.

But was someone playing a joke on her?

April Fool’s Day had been over for months. How could something as absurd as a cat and dog coming to the supermarket together to shop possibly happen right in front of her?

Even more ridiculous was the fact that the cat and dog were both looking up at her with adorably expectant expressions, as though they wanted her to serve as their shopping guide?!

The corner of Zhang Fang’s mouth twitched.

Hehe. Stop kidding around.

She had taken her medicine today. There was absolutely no way something like this could actually be happening. And so, Zhang Fang silently waited for an entire minute. She was waiting for the cat and dog to leave on their own.

Unfortunately, reality was cruel.

After a full minute, neither animal had left. Instead, the husky impatiently stretched out one little paw and patted her leg again. Afterward, he pointed toward the merchandise shelves. His meaning couldn’t possibly have been any clearer.

As a greeter who prided herself on being particularly good at reading people, Zhang Fang felt that, in the face of such an obvious hint, she really couldn’t keep pretending to be an idiot.

So she smiled, lowered her head, and said, “…Hello… Um, are you two here to shop? If you want to buy something, you need to bring your owners over, okay? Everything here costs money. You can’t just take whatever catches your eye~”

By now, the greeter’s interaction with the cat and dog had attracted a circle of idle shoppers. Hearing her coax the two animals as though they were children, everyone couldn’t help smiling knowingly. But in the very next moment, something happened that wiped the smiles straight off all their faces—

The husky gave a disdainful snort and patted Garfield with one paw.

Garfield immediately perked up and excitedly shook the small pink backpack off his back. The two pets pawed around inside it together for a moment, and finally—a gleaming gold credit card, looking every bit as expensive and high-class as it possibly could, appeared before the crowd.

All the onlookers: “!!”

Holy crap! I must have entered the supermarket the wrong way today!

A cat and a dog had actually come peacefully to a supermarket together—with a luxury gold credit card—to do their shopping?!

Was this the beginning of an alliance between Planet Cat and Planet Dog to conquer Earth?!
