Esper X Family – Chapter 66 – You’ve Ruined Me!

Ye Yao finally understood what the system meant by【Mind Network Attribute Regulator】.

Turns out, it was similar to pooling the computational power of multiple computers into one.

It was a case of quantity leading to quality.

When Cheng Muxue connects multiple Espers and concentrates their mental power onto a single individual…

Where would her proud numerical advantage be?

Cheng Muxue: “Bringing this up makes me a bit puzzled. The human body has a limit to what it can withstand. The more I regulate attributes, the more I realize this.

Even Lou Wei has his limits. He can’t destroy the world even at his peak. How could anyone possibly withstand the energy needed to destroy the world?”

Ye Yao felt somewhat relieved.

After all, no matter how much you modify a car, you can’t turn it into a rocket.

No matter how many components you pile on a truck, it would still be a truck.

Fang Ze: “Conventions are meant to be broken. Since the Prophet said so, it must be possible.”

Cheng Muxue: “Destroying the world… what a terrifying thought.”

One had to know that ‘the world’ wasn’t limited to just one planet.

Humanity’s current understanding of the world includes the universe.

Perhaps Lou Wei at his peak could spend some time wiping out the Earth’s surface.

However, he is utterly insignificant on a cosmic scale.

Destroying the world would mean destroying the universe.

It was so exaggerated that it was hard to imagine.

Even today, there were some insiders who remained skeptical.

The containment of Sequence 001 was no different from leaving everything to fate.

It felt like taking things one step at a time.

After all, according to the Prophet…

The future cannot be changed.

All they can do is delay the inevitable.

To seek a glimmer of hope during this slow process.

Lou Wei: “No need to worry unnecessarily. Even if she has that kind of power, I’ll teach her to control it.”

Ye Yao muttered to herself.

How would you teach that?

Isn’t it just about controlling it freely?

She could precisely control even a value of 100,000.

Lou Wei: “Let’s end this conversation. Go do what you need to do.”

Seeing the “group chat” about to close, Ye Yao exited beforehand.

Opening her eyes, she saw Mo Qiuli’s cute face.

She was looking down at her.

“What are you looking at?”

“N-Nothing…”

Mo Qiuli quickly shook her head. Then, feeling that it was inappropriate, she added:

“I just thought Ye Yao looked adorable with her eyes closed.”

“Thanks for the compliment.” Ye Yao was happy.

Although she didn’t know why being called cute made her happy, being praised was enough reason to be happy.

“You’d be even cuter dressed as a magical girl.”

This was the moment the dagger was revealed 1 From a story where an assassin hid a dagger in a map scroll. In the story, the map is long so it took a while to completely unroll and reveal the dagger inside. It’s commonly used as a metaphor for when someone made a long-winded introduction before getting to the point. .

Ye Yao wasn’t as happy anymore.

Seeing Ye Yao’s quick change in expression, Mo Qiuli also realized that she had said the wrong thing, and she looked like she was about to cry.

“…Sorry.”

“I’ll forgive you if you give me a lap pillow in magical girl form next time.”

“O-Okay.”

Ye Yao’s smile returned.

When making demands, you need to offer something in return.

She couldn’t let Mo Qiuli get away with freeloading so many times.

Meanwhile, in the living room.

As Cheng Muxue closed the mental network, she noticed something strange.

Just now… were there really only three people?

Cheng Muxue glanced at Lou Wei and Fang Ze.

They looked normal, probably unaware of anything unusual.

After all, they weren’t as proficient in the Mind Network, nor were they as sensitive as she was.

Or was it just her imagination?

Cheng Muxue didn’t voice her suspicions.

She decided to wait for the right moment to verify it herself.

She would confirm the situation first before saying anything.

Mo Qiuli returned home in the evening.

Lou Wei, Fang Ze, and Cheng Muxue stayed for dinner.

It was the first time Ye Yao faced such a grand lineup at the dinner table.

Fortunately, compared to their first meeting, she was much more accustomed to it.

She wouldn’t bristle at Fang Ze and Cheng Muxue anymore.

If she could even infiltrate the Mind Network, what was there to worry about?

Her aunt had fallen to the system’s divine power.

No matter how cunning she was, she couldn’t outwit the system.

Only her uncle was a bit more troublesome.

She was worried that she wouldn’t be able to project her fission body over long distances.

Getting silenced by a skill would be annoying.

Ye Yao had wanted to try it tonight.

But with three S-rank Espers around, it was better to be cautious.

She would wait until after Fang Ze and Cheng Muxue left to try!

As night fell, during the latter half of the evening.

Lou Wei, Fang Ze, and Cheng Muxue weren’t home.

After enjoying her gaming session, Ye Yao turned off her computer.

Before bed, the white-haired girl walked to the balcony to glance at the scenery outside.

The three S-rank Espers were probably lying in wait.

But it was destined to be futile.

Just as Ye Yao thought, the three were indeed lying in wait, having set up an inescapable net.

But after guarding for an entire night, they found nothing unusual at all.

Even until the next morning, the residential complex remained peaceful.

It was as if the previously persistent Sequence 012 had given up entirely.

“Is that possible?”

Cheng Muxue brought up the possibility that the other party had given up.

“Hard to say.”

Fang Ze wasn’t entirely sure.

Last night, another Countermeasures Bureau branch had sent a report.

Traces of Sequence 012 had appeared there, and he had killed another high-risk Sequence Esper at the bottom ranks.

He also left traces of “Sequence 0” at the scene.

It was as if he had shifted their focus to another operation.

Perhaps after repeatedly failing to gain anything from Lou Wei, he chose to give up and change to another direction.

Even the suspicious black mist Esper had disappeared.

“Hunting high-risk Sequence Espers? What are they thinking? I thought they’d accept all high-risk Sequence Espers.”

Cheng Muxue expressed her confusion.

“Just dogs biting dogs.” Fang Ze shook his head.

He didn’t see this as a noble act of justice.

Letting a group of uncontrollable individuals roam society was like ignoring a ticking time bomb.

Sequence Espers had caused too many disasters.

Countless records in the archives proved this.

Fugitive high-risk Sequence Espers were utterly untrustworthy.

Lou Wei calmly looked out the window.

“Stay for two more days. If there’s still no movements, you two can leave.”

“Okay.”

“Got it.”

Lou Wei got up and left, heading back to refresh himself on the couch with a newspaper.

Fang Ze prepared to strengthen the Law Space for their departure in two days.

Cheng Muxue returned to her temporary room, planning to confirm something important.

“Constructing the Mind Network.”

At the same time.

Ye Yao had just been gently awakened by Luo Jianhua’s voice.

She was still a bit groggy.

But the next moment, a voice jolted her awake.

【Automatically connected to the family network.】

What?

Are Aunt and the others planning to discuss something in secret?

“Let me sleep for ten more minutes.”

Hearing Ye Yao’s words signaling her desire to sleep in, Luo Jianhua could only nod helplessly.

“I’ll wake you up in ten minutes then, Sister.”

Ye Yao’s consciousness had already entered the mental space.

But as far as her eyes could see, there were no twinkling stars.

Only a massive light sphere floating above.

A one-person chat room?

Ye Yao was stunned for a few seconds.

The next moment.

Cheng Muxue’s voice echoed in the mental space.

“Is anyone… here?”

Ye Yao: Meow meow meow?

Oh no.

I might’ve been discovered.

Damn useless system’s automatic connection.

You’ve really ruined me!

Author Note

This is today’s second chapter. As usual, I’m requesting everyone to feed me with free gifts! Tomorrow is Monday, and the readership is about to drop, so sad~

Announcement

Hi everyone, this is Cheese, here to talk about something.

As you may have noticed, someone else has been translating this novel and posting them on Novelupdates.

First of all, that guy’s translation is actually quite decent, and there are even tl notes every now and then, even if they’re pretty basic and interruptive. It’s much better than those barely disguised mtl on sites like BOTI.

Anyway, I was fully prepared for a huge undercutting, even imagining a future where I’m forced to become a Ye Olde pure fan translator and release all locked chapters, relying solely on kofi donations.

Since I get my source straight from the official raws, I’m quite confident in getting my translation done before Chinese pirate sites can automatically add them… if I cut some corners.

But that guy actually paywalled their chapters too, and the free chapters are just 2 chapters ahead of mine.

Two. Chapters.

I feel like this is deliberate targeting, but why this novel? Why me? Did I do something wrong? There are more popular, more profitable novels out there to undercut. Also, Patreon? There are better places to host your translation. Patreon is probably the most user unfriendly site.

I don’t really make much with the novels I translate, and even then, I made sure to donate some of my earnings to the authors…

I’m not even angry, I’m just confused. I tried to talk to that guy, but my comment was deleted and now only paid members can comment there.

It would be great if they didn’t deliberately snipe me… I can even recommend novels I found while browsing Fanqie, just not TS novels, since I prefer to recommend those to fellow translators on Kat’s site.

TL;DR Someone sniped this novel. They have decent tl but did this for no reason at all .

(Looking back, I was quite harsh here. I had a test coming up IRL so I was quite stressed.)

Update: It looks like they indeed translated the novel without realizing that it’s already being translated, which can happen sometimes, especially with Fanqie novels since the authors tend to change their novel’s titles.

Anyway, they joined the discord server to dm me then left, but there is a problem…

It’s the default setting, so if you read this, please accept my friend request. Also, don’t try to stack 100 chapters before releasing a novel. That’s so risky. Just go for 10 chapters first.

Anyway, my offer is still up. I can recommend other novels from Fanqie since I often browse the raws there so I know a thing or two about looking for good novels .

More update: I’ll be recommending novels to them! ( ̄▽ ̄) Do we count as friends now?
