Volume 1, Chapter 164 – Sudden Upheaval

Sword qi, carrying boundless killing intent, tore through the heavens, in an instant shredding the palm imprint that black-robed man had struck out. Like a bolt of lightning it swept across the battlefield, coming straight for him, about to cleave him down on the spot.

“Hmph!”

The green-robed man who had been beating Ji Yun back step by step let out a cold snort at the sight. The hawk circling in the sky flipped over and dove, its massive talons stretching out like a stretching mountain range as they smashed down toward the cyan sword qi.

“Boom! Crack!”

The sword qi shattered. The hawk was sent flying backward, its form turning indistinct for a moment, almost scattered by that one sword.

Seeing this, the green-robed man halted his offensive. His brows knit slightly, and his expression grew a shade more solemn.

A spatial rift spanning a thousand zhang suddenly tore open in the middle of the field. From within it, a white-robed figure stepped out at an unhurried pace, and in the blink of an eye appeared above the warship.

It was a handsome man of about thirty, tall and slender. He was dressed in pure white, sword-like brows slanting into his temples, cold lightning in his eyes. The long hair at his temples hung down and danced in the wind. Refined as carved jade, he stood in the air like some immortal god from the Nine Heavens.

“Yan Jun?!”

Bai Weiyang saw him and was both shocked and overjoyed, thinking the sealed Domain Gate had already been opened and the Imperial Court had finally sent reinforcements.

“Who goes there?” the green-robed man said in a deep voice. The black-robed man retreated back to his side, half a step behind him, his heart full of humiliation.

Having just stepped into the Heaven Demon realm, this was when he should have been at the height of his confidence. He had thought that with no emperors of the world stepping out, he could go wherever he pleased. Yet in this very first battle he had brushed past death twice in a row. Nearly ten thousand years of cultivation had almost been wiped out in a single day.

How could he possibly be at ease with that?

Yan Jun ignored the green-robed man. His gaze swept once over Bai Weiyang, then turned to the somewhat bedraggled Ji Yun not far away. He nodded and said, “My Bai clan owes you a favor.”

This attitude of blatant disregard made the green-robed man’s eyes darken, but he did not explode in anger. He simply fell silent, hands clasped behind his back, standing motionless.

Ji Yun was not surprised in the least. With a Human Emperor bloodline descendant whose Human Emperor blood was so pure, how could there not be a powerful clan standing behind him? Yan Jun’s arrival made Ji Yun finally let out a tiny breath of relief. With an expert from a Human Emperor clan here, the situation should be able to stabilize.

Shi Lan’s tightly clenched fists slowly loosened. His heart also eased slightly. At least on the surface, the number of top experts on both sides had evened out.

The thought had only just risen and had yet to settle when the situation on the field did not pause in the slightest. More than ten spatial rifts burst open one after another. One terrifying aura after another swept across the entire plain. Between heaven and earth, wind and cloud changed color, and the ground sank several feet in an instant, a shocking sight.

Peak experts within nearly a million li all around had been drawn over by the shockwaves from Ji Yun’s clash with the two Heaven Demons just now, and they arrived one after another.

The aura of top experts was like one volcano after another on the verge of eruption. Before they even made a move, the power of the laws had already begun to collide, shattering endless void and blotting out the sky. The entire world trembled.

The deck of the warship was packed with people. Under this end-of-days scene, many martial artists felt endless oppression and terror pressing down on them, almost more than they could bear.

The low-level beast hordes fared even worse. So many terrifying auras were something their simple minds could not comprehend at all. They simply followed instinct, dropping to their knees and shivering uncontrollably.

Once the dozen-plus figures stepped out of the spatial rifts, they split into two groups in an instant. Four of them came to stand on the side of Yan Jun and Ji Yun, clearly experts of the human race.

One of them was about forty, with a burly frame, clad in armor. A deep-purple Demon-Suppressing Token hung at his waist, marking him as a Demon-Suppressing Marshal.

“Mo Bei? Why is it you?!”

The Demon-Suppressing Marshal strode through the void, moving like a dragon and pacing like a tiger as he came to Yan Jun’s side. In surprise he said, “How did you end up in the Chengtian Domain? How did you get here? Don’t tell me the Domain Gate’s been opened?”

“Four months ago I set out from the Central Heaven Domain, passed through the Boundless Sea via a teleportation array to first reach the Xuantian Domain, then rushed on from there,” Yan Jun said calmly, the corner of his mouth lifting in a barely noticeable arc.

“How is the old Patriarch Bai doing?”

“Still all right.”

The Demon-Suppressing Marshal and Yan Jun chatted away as if no one else were there, as though they had forgotten all about the eleven Heaven Demons opposite them, whose number was nearly twice their own.

The other three Heaven-Man Realm powerhouses gathered around Ji Yun. With a brief exchange of divine sense, they understood the situation in the space of a blink. Looking at the many demon race experts, all their faces grew grave.

On their side, even counting Ji Yun’s avatar, there were only six of them. In terms of numbers, they were at an overwhelming disadvantage. The situation looked bad…

One of the Heaven-Man experts waved his hand and gathered boundless rosy light. Vast essence qi rolled toward Ji Yun’s avatar, pouring into him. The several cracks on Ji Yun’s body began to heal at a speed visible to the naked eye.

Another raised his hand and took out a pitch-black staff. After erasing his own Dao imprint from it, he tossed it to Ji Yun.

“Use this for now.”

The weapon spirit within the staff trembled twice in displeasure. Ji Yun reached out and caught it, branding his own Dao imprint without the slightest hesitation and directly suppressing the weapon spirit.

With a great battle about to erupt, he had no time to waste arguing with a weapon spirit.

Eleven Heaven Demons stood in a row, faintly arrayed with the green-robed man from before and another enchantingly beautiful woman in a fiery red dress at their head.

So many great demons gathered together, their rolling demonic qi linked into one. The demonic clouds in the sky swelled at a geometric rate, covering the firmament and dimming the entire heavens.

The red-dressed woman in the lead glanced once at Yan Jun and the Demon-Suppressing Marshal, who were acting as though no one else existed. Her gaze swept the surroundings, and when she saw the warship hanging in the air, her expression shifted slightly as she thought to herself, “The aura of Divine Phoenix blood, and mixed into it another unknown bloodline…”

The aura in the field grew ever more tense, like a bowstring being slowly drawn taut.

“Snap!”

The invisible bowstring in the field suddenly broke.

One Heaven Demon moved first, shattering the stalemate. A blood-red spear was sacrificed forth, wrapped in endless power of the laws. Its tip lifted high, then came crashing down as it hacked toward the two men who were still chatting.

Yan Jun cut off his words. Behind him, a golden world unfolded. Innumerable divine swords, wrapped in golden divine radiance, rang out crisply as they turned the ten thousand zhang around him into a sea of swords.

The red-dressed woman in the lead changed expression slightly and called out softly, “Careful!” At the same time, a blinding flame flared out, as though igniting the void itself, falling toward the sea of swords at Yan Jun’s side.

The Heaven Demon who had made the move paid no mind to the warning after hearing it. The power of the laws on the blood-red spear surged even more violently, and terrifying demonic power scoured heaven and earth.

A low hum rang out as divine light burst from Yan Jun’s eyes. He stepped forward, the sea of swords around him moving with him. Sword cries pierced the sky.

A streak of golden-yellow sword qi smashed apart heaven and earth as it swept across the sky, turning into a peerless rainbow that slashed down hard onto the blood-red spear.

Boom!

The void shattered, leaving behind a massive black hole several thousand zhang across, as if it meant to swallow everything. Horrifying energy spilled in all directions, flipping the warship over and sending it flying more than a thousand zhang away. Its hull was left covered in pitted, ghastly scars.
