Volume 1, Chapter 180 – The Lan Clan
“Greetings, Venerable one.”
Feeling the bloodline pressure radiating from Shi Lan, the other two demon kings exchanged a glance, then lowered their heads.
Shi Lan looked at Cang Yue and said evenly, “Have you gathered all the demon beasts?”
“They are almost all gathered. In another two days, this little king will deliver them to you, Venerable one,” Cang Yue replied with his head bowed.
“Then what are you here for this time?”
Shi Lan frowned slightly, fixing her gaze on Cang Yue. Had he really come all this way just so two demon kings could see what she looked like? Did he have that much free time?
“Venerable one, this little king has come today to ask you about one matter. I hope you will be willing to tell me.”
“Speak.”
“Do you have a clan?” Cang Yue asked in a low voice, tension stirring in his heart.
In this period of time, aside from being busy capturing the demon beasts Shi Lan had asked for, Cang Yue had been trying by various other means to find any clue to Shi Lan’s identity, yet he had come up completely empty-handed.
Unlike the human race, the demon race’s top experts all came from the top great clans. From childhood, they relied on their noble bloodlines to become famous throughout the demon domain. Once they became experts, their names shook entire regions, their reputation immense.
The Heaven Demons of the eighteen Demon Emperor Halls all had names, passed down in the demon domain for thousands of years. Moreover, as this was the very period of conflict with the human race, most of the Heaven Demons had gone to the Vast Land of Shenzhou.
Cang Yue had already lived over seven thousand years. The secret events he had heard of were countless, and he had an extremely clear grasp of the basic information on those experts, as familiar with them as the lines on his own palm.
A little comparison of the information made it easy to see that Shi Lan was not from any of those Demon Emperor Halls.

With Shi Lan’s level of strength, she should not have been an unknown in the demon domain. Yet even after Cang Yue had practically exhausted every connection he had, he still knew nothing about Shi Lan. It was as if this Heaven Demon had appeared out of thin air.
This could not help but give rise in his heart to a guess that seemed almost impossible.
She was a solitary Heaven Demon.
Taking into account Shi Lan’s aura, which was vastly different from ordinary demons, Cang Yue became more and more convinced of this guess. After careful thought, he had invited two demon kings he was on good terms with to come meet Shi Lan together today.
When she heard Cang Yue’s question, Shi Lan considered briefly, then shook her head. She did not know much about the demon race. If she claimed to have a clan, she would have to make one up on the spot, which was far too much trouble.
Seeing Shi Lan shake her head, Cang Yue and the two demon kings both showed a flicker of joy.
“May I ask if you have any intention of founding a clan?” Cang Yue hesitated slightly, then asked with solemn expression. The two demon kings standing behind him watched Shi Lan’s face with some nervousness, unease in their hearts.
This was their true purpose in coming today.
Shi Lan’s face remained as calm as still water, but her mind was somewhat in turmoil.
What did “founding a clan” even mean?
Judging from the looks on Cang Yue’s and the other two demon kings’ faces, founding a clan clearly was not a small matter among the demon race. But she knew nothing about it. How was she supposed to answer?
If she said the wrong thing somewhere, it would be easy to cause trouble and cost her more effort later.
After thinking for a few breaths, Shi Lan said calmly,
“What do you think?”

Cang Yue froze. What was he supposed to think?
“If you are willing to found a clan, we are all willing to become your subordinates and follow you alone,” Cang Yue said, somewhat tentatively. “So will you found one or not?”
Shi Lan thought for a while and more or less formed a guess. Founding a clan was probably a way for demons to attach themselves to a powerful being, something similar to how humans formed their own forces.
After a brief pause, Shi Lan nodded slightly.
Cang Yue was stunned for a moment, then wild joy surged into his eyes. His demonic qi flared, his body changing rapidly as he transformed in an instant into a giant wolf several hundred zhang long, like a mountain of silver.
Every strand of fur on the giant wolf was like a thread of silver, flowing with a faint light, incomparably wondrous.
Seeing Cang Yue’s display, Shi Lan could not help feeling a little taken aback. What was he about to do?
“Cang Yue is willing to follow at your side, Venerable one, to honor you as master for ten thousand generations and safeguard my clan’s legacy for millennia.”
The giant wolf slowly sank to its knees, lowering its head. His voice was like distant thunder, shaking the land for dozens of li around.
The two demon kings behind him exchanged a glance, then both revealed their true forms as well: one was a golden ape, the other a sturdy demon horse whose hooves burned with flames, its entire body snow-white.
The two demons knelt beside Cang Yue and spoke together, voicing words similar to his.
The golden ape was named Yuan Ning, and the demon horse was named Yu Yang.
Looking at the three great demons kneeling in front of her, Shi Lan fell silent. It seemed she had been a bit too naive. Founding a clan was clearly nothing as simple as forming a force or founding a sect among humans.
For the demon race, it must carry a special meaning.

Before Shi Lan could figure it out, the three demon kings before her each forced out a lump of essence blood from within their bodies. The three drops merged into one mass, and they all looked up at her.
What was she supposed to do now?
Shi Lan felt a bit of a headache.
“It won’t harm you. It should just be a ceremony. Force out a little of your own blood and merge it in,” Samsara suddenly sent a voice transmission.
“Are you sure it’s fine?”
“Give it a try.”
Staring at the blood sphere in the air, Shi Lan slit her wrist and forced out a ball of spiritual blood about two inches across, merging it into the blood mass.
The instant the blood mingled, Shi Lan sensed a clear connection form between herself and the three demon kings, Cang Yue and the others.
Through this connection, she could send messages to the few demons, but they could not contact her directly. At the same time, she could clearly feel the physical state of all three.
Apart from that, there was nothing else.
Sensing the feedback from within the blood mass, the three demons’ hearts all trembled. Only after their bloodlines had merged did they fully realize just how terrifying the gap in bloodline level was between them and Shi Lan.
This difference only made them more delighted. The stronger Shi Lan was, the more it proved that they had chosen correctly.
To stumble, out of nowhere, upon a solitary Heaven Demon with such a lofty bloodline was an opportunity that demon kings without powerful backing would not even dare to dream of.
It represented the hope of elevating their bloodline.

The blood mass slowly compressed and condensed, finally forming a blood bead the size of a thumb that dropped in front of Shi Lan.
After the simple ceremony, the three demons took human form once more. Curiously, their clothing was exactly the same as before, not damaged in the slightest by the appearance of their true bodies.
“Please, Clan Leader, bestow a name upon our clan.”
Cang Yue walked to a spot not far in front of Shi Lan and spoke respectfully, changing the way he addressed her. Compared to before, his bearing was now completely that of a subordinate.
After putting away the blood bead in front of her, Shi Lan was still a bit dazed. She had somehow ended up with three demon kings under her command just like that?
“Clan Leader?”
Seeing that Shi Lan had not spoken for a long while, Cang Yue asked in some confusion.
Shi Lan came back to herself and for a moment did not know what name to give this clan that had been born less than two quarters of an hour ago.
…
Lan Clan.
After thinking it over, Shi Lan simply plucked a character from her own name and used it.
She would be returning to the Vast Land of Shenzhou soon, and who knew how long this newborn clan would even last? There was no need to rack her brains over the name.
With that thought, Shi Lan turned around, just about to head back into the cave, when she saw a pair of beast eyes before her, bright to a startling degree.
