Volume 1, Chapter 207 – Target

Yan Mobei offered not the slightest resistance, allowing that speck of spiritual light to drift into the center of his brow.

After all, if an Imperial Sword wanted his life, it would take no effort at all.

Once he had closed his eyes and digested the information contained within the light, Yan Mobei opened them and clasped his sword in salute. “Many thanks, Senior.”

Wu Xu did not speak again. He raised his head and gazed at the vault of heaven, countless strands of sword qi interweaving in his eyes. Divine light pierced through the void as he looked toward the boundless universe.

Buzz…

The longsword in Wu Xu’s arms began to tremble, and the sky, though the great sun still hung high, gradually dimmed.

Zzz—

The blade slid out of its scabbard inch by inch. The sword edge was limpid as spring water, as though time itself flowed across it.

The Imperial Sword, sealed away for hundreds of thousands of years, left its sheath. Its sword qi pressed down across a million li, shaking the demon domain. Countless demon beasts tucked their tails, lowered their heads, and sprawled upon the ground, not daring to lift them.

No beasts entered the forest, and no birds crossed the sky.

In the distance, Cangyue and the other Demon Kings were already half out of their wits, filled with the relief of surviving a disaster.

Those overwhelming auras of the great demons had vanished in an instant. Their fate required no guessing. Had they gone over to join the commotion just now, their own ends would not have needed imagining.

Clang—

A razor-sharp sword cry tore through the void for countless miles. Its icy sword intent suppressed the universe.

Holding the sword, Wu Xu pointed it at the heavens and coldly uttered a single word.

“Sever.”

The clouds hanging in the sky froze in place. A sword light split apart heaven and earth, shattered the ninefold heavens, and even cut apart the light itself.

Across the dim sky appeared a sword scar nearly a hundred thousand li long. Beyond that scar lay the vast and dazzling starry sky.

Yan Mobei’s gaze tightened slightly, and his breathing deepened. With a mere lift of the hand, one could pierce heaven and earth and stroll the starry sky—such cultivation was a realm countless martial artists would not dare even dream of.

Wu Xu stepped onto an invisible stairway and ascended into the heavens, his figure vanishing into the depths of the starry sky in an instant.

Watching the crack in the sky slowly mend itself, Yan Mobei’s eyes flickered once before he turned to look in the direction Su Banyun had fled.

The fox clan had always possessed endless methods, and fox clan great demons were even more so. That sword strike just now might not necessarily have killed him.

After a moment of silence, Yan Mobei opened a spatial passage once more. He did not continue the pursuit, instead hurrying toward the Vast Land of Shenzhou.

…

The Vast Land of Shenzhou, at the border of the Chengtian Domain, on a desolate plain.

A spatial rift split open, and a tall, pale violet figure slowly stepped out.

She looked to be around twenty, with skin fairer than snow, smooth and white as congealed cream. Her brows were slender, and her eyes resembled a limpid spring, clear as autumn waters, though from time to time they flashed with a trace of age that did not match her years.

Her waist-length purple hair veiled the pale skin of her neck. Her dress was somewhat tattered, stained with purple scabs of dried blood. Her whole body radiated a vigorous, heroic bearing utterly unlike that of an ordinary woman.

“So this counts as being back?”

Looking at the barren scene around her, Shi Lan murmured softly.

“This should not be too far off from the coordinates where you last departed.”

Only after hearing Samsara’s firm reply did Shi Lan finally relax. Her blood and qi settled, and in an instant her purple hair turned black as ink once more, while the violet hue in her eyes gradually faded.

She had thought it would not take long, but the journey had ended up taking nearly half a month. A distance of several million li was not something one could simply dismiss with words. Along the way, Shi Lan had even run into several great demons.

Had those great demons not all been hurrying along as if burdened with heavy concerns, a clash would most likely have been unavoidable.

“This time there was no assistance from spatial tearing, so the energy expenditure was rather great. You must act even more cautiously in the future.”

After giving its confirmation, Samsara added one more sentence. Its energy truly was running low.

Shi Lan nodded, simply tied up the long hair hanging behind her, and after getting her bearings, began heading in the direction of the fortress from her memory.

She did not choose to speed through the air, but instead stayed close to the ground, covering dozens of zhang with each step as she sprinted onward. The situation in the area was still unclear, and in the sky she would be far too conspicuous a target.

When passing through a stretch of woodland, Shi Lan removed the outer layer of the Yueji Skirt, leaving only the inner soft armor, and changed into her battle armor.

Only after running for two full days did a wall of black iron stretching for hundreds of li finally come into view.

Several sections of the wall had already collapsed. The foot of the wall was piled high with bones, some from the demon race and some from the human race. The walls were covered with dark brown stains, utterly devoid of life.

Shi Lan’s heart sank, and she quickened her pace.

A short while later, Shi Lan arrived before the fortress gate, more than half of which had caved in. She stepped directly into the air and swept her gaze across the interior.

The fortress was a complete wreck, strewn with countless bones, bleak and desolate.

Shi Lan had not failed to consider the possibility that the fortress might have fallen, but when she truly saw the sight before her, she still found it difficult to believe. She could not help worrying about the life and death of Wu Lingkong and all the others under her command.

As for her father, Shi Lan was not too worried. Her Demon-Suppressing Token had not reacted, which was proof enough that Shi Tianlu was safe.

After a simple search, Shi Lan found nothing except a blurry map of the Chengtian Domain.

The places marked on the map were extremely vague. At a glance, there were only a dozen or so obvious symbols.

Aside from seven or eight fortresses, there were only a few insignias representing various factions.

Sacred Martial Immortal Sect…

Xianwu City…

Taixu Academy…

Xingxuan Sect…

Tianyin Palace…

Without exception, these were all powers of the third rank or above. Anything at the third rank or below was not marked at all.

After scanning the map once, Shi Lan fixed her gaze on Xianwu City.

According to what her father had said back then, everyone from the Shi Residence was now in Xianwu City. And judging from the current momentum of the demon race’s invasion, it was only a matter of time before it spread there as well.

Going there was the best option for now.

Once Shi Lan had settled on her destination, she began taking stock of her current assets.

Host: Shi Lan

Cultivation: mid-stage of the Earth Fiend Realm

Bone Structure: 9 (Innate spiritual body, seen once in a thousand years.)

Cultivation Arts: Yuqing Creation Art (second layer), Vajra Divine Fist (major accomplishment), Jade Tempering Art (perfected), Heaven Extremity Seal (not yet initiated)

Divine Abilities: Heaven’s Eye Qi-Sight (three-star), Black Domain (seven-star)

Combat Evaluation: modest accomplishments

Reputation: 234,790 (famous in one region)

After sweeping a glance across the panel, Shi Lan opened the mission section.

[713/1000]

The main mission issued by the system—slaying one thousand Earth Fiend Realm demon beasts—was now very close to completion.

Because of the various demon beasts of the Lan Clan, Shi Lan’s reputation value had already broken past the threshold of two hundred thousand points.

That penalty of fifty thousand reputation points no longer meant much in Shi Lan’s eyes, but she still wanted to obtain that portion of Ancient Enlightenment Tea.

The Purple Star Seven-Section Halberd had already been shattered in her clash against the incarnation of Guiyun Sword Sovereign.

That left Shi Lan feeling quite pained. Along the way, the Purple Star Seven-Section Halberd had been the weapon that had accompanied her the longest.

Compared with a sword weapon like Golden Rainbow, she still preferred straightforward weapons like battle halberds.

After taking inventory of the supplies inside her Qiankun Bracelet, Shi Lan passed straight through the fortress and headed toward Xianwu City.

She did not unleash her full speed. Instead, while traveling, she searched for small beast hordes and hunted demon beasts at or above the Earth Fiend Realm along the way.
