Volume 1, Chapter 269 – Beyond the Realm
A thick pillar of light more than a hundred li in diameter streaked through the cold universe and slammed head-on into the streak of light.
The streak of light paused slightly, then slowly came to a halt. The hazy halo shrouding its sides gradually dispersed, revealing a nine-clawed golden dragon more than a hundred thousand li long, its entire body looking as though it had been cast from gold. Coiled in the starry sky, it radiated a pressure so terrifying that it chilled the soul.
The star-killer cannon, capable of piercing through stars, left only a faint scratch on those resplendent golden dragon scales.
“Saia… what kind of creature is that? What level of strength are we looking at?”
Aboard the warship, the captain swallowed hard and questioned the ship’s artificial intelligence.
“Judging from its appearance, it should belong to a branch of the dragon race. Its strength is unknown. Conservative estimate: equivalent to Level Eight.”
Level Eight…
Hearing the artificial intelligence’s reply, the entire warship fell silent. Level Eight power existed only in civilizations of Level Eight and above, and even in the whole universe, there were not many civilizations that powerful.
And without question, every single one of them was far beyond anything they could afford to offend.
The captain clenched his palm tightly, his blue-green skin turning deathly pale as he stared at the giant dragon before him, completely at a loss.
The ship’s cabin was utterly silent. The joy of arriving at their destination only moments earlier had vanished without a trace, replaced by the fear of death that now blanketed the entire warship.
The golden dragon paused only for a few breaths, then resumed its advance, as if it had no intention of paying this warship any mind.
With flashes of light, it shifted through the starry sky. It looked as though countless stars were racing backward. In an instant, it crossed several star systems and passed by the warship at a distance of several million li.
Only when the dragon brushed past did the people aboard the warship realize that the latter half of its body was already covered in wounds. Large patches of those magnificent dragon scales had peeled away, exposing crimson flesh and faintly visible white dragon bone.

On the dragon’s head, seated cross-legged between the two horns that resembled soaring blades, was a figure dressed in violet.
The instant he saw that violet-robed figure, the captain suddenly felt an intense sense of danger surge through his heart. Without the slightest hesitation, he activated emergency separation. The command module detached from the warship and fled several million li away in a single instant.
An invisible ripple surged through the universe, and the warship almost instantly disintegrated. Every living being aboard it, without exception, turned into cosmic dust.
From beginning to end, the violet-robed figure on the dragon’s head did not spare even the slightest glance for that warship.
Behind the nine-clawed golden dragon followed nearly a hundred figures, including all manner of strange beasts as well as some humanoid figures. Their auras linked together into one, almost suppressing an entire starfield.
Shifting through space, the group quickly arrived above a vast, boundless continent. Around the continent was wrapped a gray membrane, while two enormous stars, one yin and one yang, revolved slowly around it.
Demonic qi surged up and swept across the starry sky. Several hundred figures leapt up from that yin star to meet the group. All of them were great demons above the Nascent Soul Realm, and among them were even figures wrapped in Emperor laws, unmistakably major figures at the Demon Emperor level.
The three races of humans, devils, and demons had ruled the Lingyang Realm for millions of years. Emperor-level experts had appeared one after another without end, and their exploration of the cosmic starry sky was far beyond anything seen in the ancient era. The transmission arrays leading to realms beyond had long since been opened.
Although the blockade around the Lingyang Realm still remained, the sphere of influence of the three races had in fact already spread into several neighboring starfields.
On this yin star, all three races had already arranged reinforcements in advance. Now that they saw the demon race returning first, the atmosphere among the human and devil races became somewhat tense.
“Greetings, Imperial Lord.”
Several hundred figures spoke in unison toward the violet-robed figure on the dragon’s head, bowing deeply in reverence as if worshipping an immortal god.
“How goes the war in Chengtian Domain?”

A terrifying wave of divine sense rolled through the starry sky, carrying a tyranny that brooked no challenge.
“It is as good as won.”
A man who looked to be around thirty stepped forward and bowed in reply. Emperor laws swirled around his body, making it obvious that he was an unparalleled Demon Emperor.
In the entire Lingyang Realm, there was no second figure besides the Demon Emperor Chenxin who could command such an attitude from a Demon Emperor.
Chenxin, seated atop the dragon’s head, said nothing more. He rose and drifted slowly toward the continent.
The nine-clawed golden dragon gradually shrank in size and transformed into an elderly man in his sixties wearing a brocade robe threaded with golden silk. The strange beasts behind him also took human form one after another and followed after the violet-robed figure.
When the group reached the membrane, they all came to a stop.
Chenxin reached out and laid a hand on the membrane, then fell still.
“Imperial Lord, are you injured?”
After a long while, the brocade-robed elder transformed from the nine-clawed golden dragon sent a voice transmission, a trace of worry on his face.
“I am fine.”
Chenxin shook his head slightly and gazed into the boundless starry sky behind him, as if waiting for something.
The great demons did not dare make the slightest move. They stood with lowered heads like wooden posts.

In the blink of an eye, half an hour passed…
In the distant starry sky, a layer of gentle white light suddenly appeared.
A black-robed figure came crossing space, holding up a Heaven-Reaching Treasure Register above his head with one hand while supporting an immense starfield in his palm with supreme might.
Within that starfield were several hundred life-bearing stars, with countless living beings upon them, all radiating panic. From time to time, powerful creatures who had achieved some success in cultivation tried to escape the starfield, but around it were dozens of Emperor laws, suppressing every disturbance within.
At the sight of that black-robed figure, Chenxin narrowed his eyes slightly, his expression unreadable.
As the starfield drew nearer and nearer, ripples spread across the gray membrane surrounding the Lingyang Realm, as if it had come alive. A crack appeared in it, like the gaping maw of an abyss waiting for the starfield to approach.
At that very moment, a consciousness suddenly surged out from above the starfield, breaking through the Emperor laws and charging toward the Lingyang Realm.
This consciousness was incomparably diffuse and had no intelligence, as though it were a collective mass of souls, yet its power had already surpassed that of an Emperor-level expert.
The instant that consciousness appeared, the gray membrane paused slightly, as though provoked, then suddenly erupted in towering waves.
The entire starfield trembled, as if some indescribable terrifying creature had awakened. The dreadful divine might that blanketed the cosmic starry sky was enough to make even those who had become emperors tremble in fear.
The consciousness that had rushed out from that vast starfield did not endure even for half an instant before it was crushed and utterly destroyed.
…
At the instant the gray membrane rippled, Shi Lan, who was in the middle of the army formation, suddenly raised her head to the heavens, a trace of astonishment and suspicion appearing in her pupils.
