Volume 1, Chapter 280 – Disturbance

The pitch-black alley was so dark one could not see a hand before one’s face, and the silence was almost frightening.

Creak—creak—

With two people on it, the bicycle was clearly a little overburdened. Its rusted chain dragged the gears along with effort as it rattled forward.

To take a shortcut, Lin Mo kept heading farther and farther off the main road, but he was obviously extremely familiar with the surroundings. Even with visibility this poor, he did not slow down in the slightest.

The dark environment made Ning An a little nervous, and the hand clutching the corner of Lin Mo’s shirt unconsciously tightened.

Boom!

A thunderous crash shattered the silence around them.

Lin Mo’s expression changed. He slammed on the brakes, and the bicycle skidded sideways in an instant. The huge momentum nearly threw Ning An off.

“What was that?”

Lin Mo did not answer. He got off the bike at once.

Ning An followed behind him as they slowly approached. A huge, twisted dumpster lay jammed across the middle of the alley, blocking their way.

The light around them was very dim. Lin Mo looked carefully for a while before finally noticing that in the middle of the dumpster was a person embedded into it, their features impossible to make out, their body covered in blood, completely motionless.

Tap, tap…

Light footsteps sounded from the mouth of the alley. Backlit by the dim yellow streetlamp behind them, three figures walked in.

“Hm? There are actually ordinary people here too.”

Only after the three came closer did Lin Mo and Ning An manage to see what they looked like.

There were three men. The one in front looked younger, around twenty-seven or twenty-eight. The other two were both over forty. One was powerfully built, while the other was somewhat smaller and thinner. All three were dressed strangely, wearing black long-sleeved tops and pants resembling skintight outfits despite the height of summer.

For some reason, a warning suddenly rang through Lin Mo’s heart. Without caring about anything else, he grabbed Ning An’s hand and started backing away.

The man in front crouched by the dumpster and searched the person inside it for a moment. When he found nothing, he cursed in a low voice, glanced at Lin Mo and Ning An, and casually said,

“Kill them.”

The two middle-aged men nodded at once. The burly one strode forward, fast as the wind. In two steps he caught up with Lin Mo, and without wasting a word, he struck instantly, seizing Lin Mo by the throat.

Lin Mo’s breathing locked up. His entire body was lifted off the ground, his feet dangling in the air. No matter how he struggled, he could not break free from that hand, which felt as though it had been forged from steel.

The air was squeezed out of his lungs. Lin Mo’s vision darkened, the force of his struggles weakening as his life rapidly drained away.

Ning An was almost scared senseless by what was happening before her eyes, but the last bit of reason she had left still made her force her weak legs to move as she ran backward, pulling out her phone at the same time.

Call the police!

At that moment, that was the only thought in Ning An’s mind.

“Ah!”

She had not even managed two steps when a tremendous force caught her by the ends of her hair and yanked her back. Her phone, before she had time to dial the emergency number, fell to the ground nearby.

Expressionless, the middle-aged man released the unconscious Lin Mo from his grip and used one hand to steady Ning An’s head.

“Wait.”

Just as that middle-aged man was about to crush Ning An’s neck, the other, thinner man raised a hand to stop him.

The burly man loosened his grip slightly, turned to glance at him, frowned, and looked faintly impatient.

“It’d be too much of a waste to kill a little girl like this. Give me a quarter of an hour.”

The burly man ignored him and looked toward the younger man in front.

The younger man was still crouched by the dumpster, carefully searching through it. Without even turning his head, he waved a hand.

“Give her to him. It won’t take long.”

Hearing that, the burly man silently stepped aside and turned his back.

Ning An had not even reacted yet when a powerful force suddenly came from behind and slammed her to the ground.

…

In a dark corner some distance away, several pairs of eyes were fixed on everything happening here.

“Do we move now?”

Click—

The low question came with the faint metallic rasp of a round being chambered, and killing intent instantly rose.

“No. According to the plot, all of these guys are at the Force-Tempering Realm, and the younger one has already started Bone Tempering. Bullets might not be able to kill him. And even if we can kill one, once the other two are on guard, guns will be useless.”

“Right. We’ve only just arrived, and our strength isn’t much better than ordinary people’s. If we act now, the risk is too high,” someone else at the side agreed.

“This is the perfect chance to farm Lin Mo’s favorability. Chances like this won’t come often later!”

Another crisp female voice rang out, sounding anxious.

“Lin Mo is the protagonist. He won’t die!”

“Wait a little longer. Ning An has to die here today. If Ning An doesn’t die, Lin Mo’s mentality won’t change, and the later plot might veer off in a major way. Then everything will go beyond our control.”

…

Ning An’s cheek was pressed against the icy stone pavement. Only when she heard the sound of a zipper being pulled open behind her did she suddenly realize what was happening, and she began struggling madly.

The thin man who was undoing his clothes abruptly changed expression. Caught completely off guard, he rocked backward. What he had pinned under his hands was not some weak little girl with no strength to truss a chicken, but a tyrannosaur with unimaginable power!

“You—”

Ning An twisted around in struggle and, almost using every ounce of strength in her body, kicked the thin man square in the chest!

Bang—crack—

A dull impact sounded as the thin man’s body flew up into the air, hurtling seven or eight meters away, his breastbone shattered to pieces!

Thud!

The smaller man slammed into the ground, his eyes bulging and bloodshot. He stared at Ning An for several breaths, full of shock and disbelief, before his life finally cut off.

That kick had already ruptured his heart and vessels. Neither immortals nor Buddhas could save him now.

The other two men, who had already turned back around, looked at Ning An sitting on the ground, temporarily drained of strength, their faces filled with stunned disbelief.

That little girl had kicked a Force-Tempering expert to death with one foot?!

…

In the dark corner far away, there was likewise an uproar.

“Ning An actually knows martial arts?!”

“What does this mean? Has the plot changed?!”

“If Ning An doesn’t die, will Lin Mo still undergo a complete change in temperament? Won’t the rest of the story be thrown completely into chaos?!”

…

An almost suffocating silence spread across the scene.

Ning An knelt on the ground, staring at the corpse not far away, her face full of panic, utterly at a loss for what to do.

Just as the atmosphere was growing ever stranger, Ning An’s mind suddenly sank into chaos. Her head gradually drooped, as though she were falling into sleep.

“Move!”

The young man suddenly let out a sharp shout. His feet shifted in astral steps, and the friction of his muscles and bones sounded like muffled thunder as he lunged in with a howling gust of force!

The burly man followed right behind him. Every muscle in his body tensed, and his knotty frame swelled by another full circle, nearly tearing his clothes apart!

Halfway through his attack, the young man suddenly felt a chill run through him. He forcibly reined in his strength and shot backward in retreat.

The burly man noticed nothing at all and still charged forward at full power like a heavy truck, crashing toward the girl kneeling on the ground.

“Get back!”

Hearing the young man’s shout, the burly man instinctively tried to pull back his force, but he had gone all out. At this point, it was already too late to stop.

The girl kneeling on the ground slowly opened her eyes. The aura around her body changed abruptly. The panic in her gaze was gone, leaving only a cold detachment with the faintest trace of chilling killing intent winding within it!
