Volume 1, Chapter 291 – Grandmaster
Rain pattered onto the ground with sharp, crackling taps, as if it were striking the hearts of everyone around them, sending a chill through them all.
As they looked at the girl standing in the middle of the street, holding a sixty-year-old elder in one hand, everyone’s heart seemed to be clenched tight. All of them stood silent as cicadas in winter, not daring to even breathe too loudly.
What was a Martial Grandmaster? In the martial world, a grandmaster represented invincibility. They were legends of the mortal realm. Unless it was a fight to the death between grandmasters, or the military used heavy modern weapons to surround and suppress them, there was basically no danger to their lives. They could move unchecked wherever they pleased.
Yet at this moment, a Martial Grandmaster was being held in someone’s hand like a dead dog, and the one holding him was a girl not yet eighteen.
Luo Tang had been famous in the martial world for many years. His reputation was even greater than that of ordinary Martial Grandmasters, yet he had been crushed in a single move. How could that not strike fear into people’s hearts?
Sensing the gazes turning toward him from all around, Luo Tang could not help feeling humiliated. Ever since he had begun practicing martial arts, he had long since put life and death aside, yet in the end, he still had not seen through the two words fame and gain.
After decades of hardship, after carving out his renown through bloodshed and peril, all of it was gone in a single day!
That made him suffer even more than if he had simply been killed outright.
“Cough…”
His rage attacking his heart, his blood and qi flowing in reverse, Luo Tang’s eyes reddened slightly, and a streak of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth.
“West of the city… twenty li.”
Before the words had even fully left his mouth, the muscles in Luo Tang’s chest bulged high. Then there came a crisp sound like a taut tendon snapping. His whole body immediately went limp, the light fading from his eyes, his aura cut off. He had actually severed his own heart meridian on the spot.
Shi Lan released her grip, and the coldness in her eyes did not lessen in the slightest. One did not involve family in a grudge. What the Wuji Sect had done had already broken the rules.
Luo Tang’s corpse fell into the pooled water. Threads of blood seeped out, only to be washed away by the heavy rain in an instant.

Rumble…
Lightning streaked across the night sky, illuminating the rainy night. In the middle of the street, only Luo Tang’s corpse remained. Shi Lan had already vanished without a trace.
Recalling the address Luo Tang had mentioned earlier, the various groups once again rushed toward the outskirts of the city.
The death of a grandmaster was certainly terrifying, but it was not enough to frighten hearts that had all but fallen into madness for the sake of that legendary treasure.
…
The rain fell harder and harder. The factory in the suburbs had been abandoned for so long that the drainage pipes were clogged, and there was already a considerable amount of standing water inside the workshop.
Luo Jin sat in the middle of the workshop, utterly indifferent to the water that had already risen past his calves. His gaze was fixed on the main gate, as if waiting for something.
He had already received word of Luo Tang’s death, and it inevitably left him feeling somewhat alarmed.
Ning Kangping sat to one side, unable to stop worrying, but the only thing he could do now was pray for his daughter’s safety. There was nothing else he could do.
Splash, splash—
The still water suddenly surged into layer upon layer of waves.
Luo Jin’s gaze sharpened, and he sprang to his feet.
Boom!
With a tremendous crash, the giant iron gate suddenly smashed into the workshop, sweeping several Wuji Sect disciples away with it. Its momentum did not slow in the slightest as it thundered straight toward Luo Jin.

Blood and qi surged around Luo Jin. His gaze turned fierce, and without dodging or avoiding, he thrust out both palms to brace against the iron gate. Strength flooded his shoulders and arms, power sank through to the soles of his feet, and the surrounding water exploded upward in wave after wave, forming a vacuum in an instant.
In the middle of that cleared space, the cement floor beneath Luo Jin’s feet was already covered in cracks, yet he had not retreated even half a step.
Thud!
A figure stepped onto the iron gate and leaped into the air. Then the body twisted, and a leg came slashing down in a split.
Luo Jin’s expression did not change. His shoulders and arms exerted force again, and the heavy iron gate abruptly rose upright, turning into a wall of steel that blocked the attack in front of him.
Boom!
The thick iron gate caved inward as a whole, and cracks faintly appeared across it.
“What fierce, overbearing strength. No wonder Luo Tang fell at your hands.”
Luo Jin slowly exhaled. He still had not retreated half a step. After flexing his numbed palms, he lifted the thousand-jin iron gate and tossed it casually to the side as though it were a toy.
Shi Lan stood not far away, with Ning Kangping already brought to her side. The people of the Wuji Sect had surrounded them on all sides.
“An’an…”
Only now did Ning Kangping come back to himself. Anxiety showed on his face, and just as he was about to say something, Shi Lan cut him off.
“Those of your Wuji Sect who died by my hand all brought death upon themselves. If you want revenge, I will accept all of it. But you should not have touched Ning An’s family.”

Shi Lan shook her head slightly, stepped forward, and stared at Luo Jin.
“You are courting death.”
Luo Jin did not notice the oddity in Shi Lan’s words. He merely extended his hand.
“Hand the item over to me, and the grudge between you and the Wuji Sect can be written off in one stroke.”
From beginning to end, Shi Lan had no idea what she had supposedly taken, nor did she know what exactly these people were all chasing after. Naturally, she had nothing she could hand over to Luo Jin.
“Luo Tang was my younger brother. Today you cut down my own brother, so you are not leaving. If you hand over the item, I can guarantee Ning Kangping’s life and ensure he remains safe.”
“Where does your confidence come from? From this crippled body of yours that’s already half in the grave?”
With a sneer, Shi Lan swept a glance over the Wuji Sect disciples around them, her gaze settling on Zhao Ye’s deathly pale face.
“Or from this bunch of trash?”
“You’re asking to die!”
Although they had already heard that Shi Lan had defeated Luo Tang, most martial artists had fiery tempers by nature. Provoked by her words, several of them immediately lost control and attacked at the same time.
Those who had followed Luo Jin here were all elites of the Wuji Sect. The weakest among them had already reached the peak of the Force-Tempering Realm, and the first few to strike had even long since stepped into the greater mastery stage of the Bone-Forging Realm.
As they moved, their muscles and bones spread open at the same time, each joint cracking like thunder. Every inch of sinew and bone in their bodies erupted with force. Their punches shot out like arrows, and their sweeping legs lashed out like runaway horses, a truly terrifying display.
In the space of an instant, Shi Lan’s figure streaked through a string of afterimages. Her five fingers clenched, and she threw a punch with explosive force. Before the fist even arrived, the air already rang with a shrill sound like a tiger’s roar.

A savage killing intent erupted. The hearts of the men rushing forward stopped beating for an instant. Almost at once, they switched from attack to defense and tried to pull back.
But it was already too late.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Along with a series of explosive cracks from shattering bones, several figures were blasted backward like rag dolls, crashing heavily into the standing water and staining it with blossoming flowers of blood.
Without exception, all of them were beaten to death on the spot, utterly incapable of putting up any resistance.
That sight was like a basin of cold water poured over them, instantly forcing the people of the Wuji Sect to calm down. Only now did they remember that the person before them was a Martial Grandmaster of the Blood Transformation Realm, not someone they could possibly shake.
Several disciples had died in the blink of an eye, yet Luo Jin’s expression did not change in the slightest. Instead, the light in his eyes grew even hotter.
Boom!
Luo Jin took a single step forward, blasting up towering waves of water. The blood and qi throughout his body circulated to the limit, almost obscuring his appearance, making him look like a god of blood. His aura was incomparably powerful.
Luo Jin had been at the peak of the Blood Transformation Realm for many years. The strength of his cultivation was simply not something people like Luo Tang could compare to.
Shi Lan pushed Ning Kangping behind her and met him head-on. All the force in her body condensed into a single point. A faint golden Buddhist flower mark appeared on the back of her hand as she threw a punch through the air toward Luo Jin.
The invisible force of the strike carved a striking long trail through the air and slammed into the thin veil of blood and qi surrounding Luo Jin, sending ripples spreading through it.
“Break!”
