The golden-winged roc was an exceptionally powerful vicious bird to begin with. Having passed through the cleansing of lightning tribulation, its body had grown even more formidable, and its claws were wrapped in thunder-fire tribulation qi, enough to tear apart an ordinary small world in an instant.

This was an incomparably powerful Heaven Demon. Even mighty experts who had just entered the Heaven-Man Realm would fall beneath its claws.

The golden-winged roc spoke in human language, and a flash of greed passed through its golden eyes.

Shi Lan steadied herself and spat out a mouthful of clotted blood. Blood and qi circulated through her body as the True Martial Undying Body was pushed to its limit. Bloody light shot into the sky, and after only a few breaths, the bones that had been cracked from the impact began to itch as they started to heal.

“Human, hand over this Sacred Weapon to me. I can spare your life and take you in as my war servant.”

The golden-winged roc beat its wings in the starry sky, radiating boundless pressure like a blazing sun.

Most Sacred Weapons contained a spirit. The spirit within the war halberd before it was clearly sleeping, and it did not want to awaken it.

“Today I’ll kill you and whet my spirit sword’s edge!”

Cold light flashed through Shi Lan’s eyes like icy lightning. Most of her injuries had already recovered. The war halberd in her hand swept across the heavens, tearing through the sky and howling forward with a terrifying divine might capable of shattering stars.

“You don’t know your place!”

The golden-winged roc’s gaze turned icy, flashing with chilling killing intent. Behind it, a phantom of a world unfolded, barren and lifeless, devoid of all vitality.

Its feathers suddenly lit up with dazzling divine radiance, like golden divine swords, each one emitting razor-sharp killing force.

There were as many human experts as clouds in the Illusory Star Domain. It wanted a quick battle and a quick finish.

The black war halberd plunged forward like a true dragon entering the sea, shattering the incoming golden feathers.

Strands of golden divine light wrapped around them and swept across the starry sky, piercing Shi Lan’s golden primordial spirit protection and slicing open her flesh, only to be stopped by bones covered in red markings, sending up dazzling sparks.

This was Shi Lan’s first time fighting a Heaven Demon with her own strength. Her blood, long silent, began to boil, and her surging battle blood almost made her throw back her head and roar.

Towering bloody light illuminated the starry sky. Shi Lan stood beneath the heavens, both pupils a crimson red, like a burning blood sun, her blood and qi like a soaring azure dragon rushing straight into the Nine Heavens.

The scent of divine phoenix blood drifted through the starry sky, filling the golden-winged roc’s eyes with alarm and uncertainty.

Shi Lan cast her bone-deep wounds out of mind. As she unleashed the Heaven-Scorching Three Halberds through Phoenix True Fire, their might more than doubled, and she wielded them with ever greater ease.

The halberd force pierced through the overwhelming rain of golden swords and left one glaring wound after another across the golden-winged roc’s enormous body.

Behind Shi Lan spread a pitch-black illusory realm, within which the roars of gods and devils could faintly be heard. Every drop of demon blood shed by the golden-winged roc was devoured by her.

After drinking Heaven Demon blood, the Scarlet Crow War Halberd, too, became covered in a layer of blood-light, and faint fluctuations of divine sense began to emerge from within it.

Shriek—

The searing pain of its wounds made the golden-winged roc let out a furious cry. Golden light around its body surged, and an instant later it transformed into human form: powerfully built, clad in golden feathered robes, long golden hair draped over its shoulders, and both eyes pure gold, glittering with sinister divine light.

It thrust a hand into its small world and drew out a golden bone whip with a sinister aura.

Hum!

Layer upon layer of whip shadows flashed, tearing through the starry sky and smashing countless meteors, completely engulfing Shi Lan.

More than half the armor on Shi Lan’s body shattered. The demon blood flowing from it ignited into blinding golden light, condensing into a sky-piercing, earth-reaching manifestation of a golden-winged heavenly roc, its killing intent fierce and tragic.

The black phantom realm appeared once more, wrapping up all the surrounding starry sky.

The instant it was enveloped by the Black Domain, the golden-winged roc’s expression changed sharply.

The surrounding space seemed to turn at once into a swamp, incomparably heavy. The world darkened, and layer upon layer of illusions appeared, as if countless gods and devils wrapped in blazing radiance were roaring at the sky, each roar shattering worlds.

The golden-winged heavenly roc manifestation collapsed instantly. A flicker of light flashed at Shi Lan’s brow, and a golden sword-shadow shot out with a clear ringing cry. It passed through the golden-winged roc’s forehead, split open the crown of its skull, and sent red and white matter spraying out.

The golden longsword hung motionless in midair, its blade trembling violently as it devoured all the demon blood along with the golden-winged roc’s primordial spirit. Brilliant five-colored light spread across the sword body.

After a while, the light subsided. A figure of light leaped from the sword and flew to Shi Lan, turning into a tiny person a foot tall that rubbed against her shoulder.

Back in Xianwu City, Golden Rainbow had had its spirit body shattered by the Demon Emperor while protecting its master. Later, on Yunyan Star, Shi Lan had asked the forging grandmaster Lu Hanchen to repair it, but its spirituality had remained clouded and dormant, and it had needed precious blood imbued with soul force to open its edge.

Now, after absorbing the primordial spirit of this Heaven Demon, its spirituality had finally revived.

As the primordial spirit dispersed, the golden-winged roc reverted to its true form, its enormous corpse covering more than half the meteor.

Less than half a quarter-hour after the battle ended, Tianbai carefully drove the heavenly horses down onto the meteor.

She had a very clear understanding of her own strength, and had not interfered in the battle to burden Shi Lan. She had stayed far, far away.

“Good thing I still remember your scent. I almost didn’t recognize you.”

When it saw Tianbai, Golden Rainbow jumped down from Shi Lan’s shoulder and circled around Tianbai once.

“Long time no see, Silly Bai!”

The smile that had just risen on Tianbai’s face stiffened slightly. Staring at the sword spirit bobbing up and down before her, she felt her teeth itch.

That nickname, Silly Bai, brought back some less than pleasant memories.

When she had first met Shi Lan in the Boundless Demon Domain, she had only been an ordinary demon beast in the Earth Fiend Realm, her intelligence not yet fully developed. Her behavior had inevitably been somewhat simple and muddleheaded, and Golden Rainbow had put her through quite a lot back then.

Even so, she was still somewhat happy at Golden Rainbow’s awakening. At the very least, to her, Golden Rainbow counted as half a friend.
