Volume 1, Chapter 439 – An Irreconcilable Hatred
“Come.”
A single unremarkable word, uttered from that massive body several thousand zhang tall, carried an indescribable pressure.
His azure skin shone with the luster of divine iron, and every inch of flesh and bone was filled with destructive divine power.
His gaze did not spare Shi Lan so much as a fraction, as if she simply did not exist.
To a Supreme, a seventh-tier cultivator was no different from an insect, something that could be crushed at will.
The white tiger stared straight at the azure giant god before it as a terrifying pressure, overwhelming as collapsing mountains and overturning seas, crashed into it head-on, nearly suffocating it and making every hair stand on end.
Yet faced with that crushing pressure, Shi Lan felt little tension.
In terms of sheer oppressive force, this unnamed Supreme before her was far inferior to the Ancient God King she had seen back in Langya Grotto-Heaven.
As her thoughts turned, Shi Lan quietly activated the Death-Substituting Puppet Talisman she had drawn earlier, then connected her mind to the system.
The Death-Substituting Puppet Talisman could block a single fatal attack for her. She wanted to try, at the instant it took effect, to use the system to reopen a spatial passage and perhaps carve out a chance of survival.
As long as she could step within the bounds of the Lingyang Realm, she would be able to save her life. Any Supreme from the outside entering that world would never escape the scrutiny of the Heavenly Dao of Lingyang and would be doomed to die!
…
“Why is there still no movement…?”
Out in the starry sky, Yang Venerable stood with his arms folded atop a dead star, fingers lightly tapping his armguard as he stared into the desolate expanse, glancing toward the Qiongluo Realm from time to time with a deep furrow in his brow.
Hum…

Invisible ripples spread through the silent starry sky. In the blink of an eye, three world gates emerged within the silver river, from which several familiar auras leaked out.
Supremes traveled with astonishing speed. Shifting across star domains and crossing the starry sky took only an instant, and in an extremely short span of time, powerful reinforcements had already been summoned.
Yang Venerable raised a hand, just about to send a message, only to realize it was already too late. The world gates had opened; if he tried to send word now, he would certainly be discovered.
“I nearly made a disastrous mistake!”
As thoughts raced through his mind, Yang Venerable suddenly slapped his palm, and a burst of white light surged out around him.
In only a few breaths, the white light dissipated. His appearance had already changed drastically, turning him into a white-haired middle-aged man, and even the fluctuations of law around him had changed, carrying faint threads of chill.
Seven figures stepped out of the world gates one after another. At their head was a middle-aged Daoist wearing a tattered robe.
The middle-aged Daoist was utterly unkempt, his hair disheveled as if he had just woken from a long dream. His eyes were murky, without the slightest trace of spirit-light.
The instant he set foot in the starry sky, the middle-aged Daoist lifted his eyelids and turned his gaze toward where Yang Venerable stood.
That gaze pierced through the void like a heavenly blade laid bare, so sharp it seemed ready to flay Yang Venerable’s flesh from his bones.
This Daoist’s strength was anything but ordinary! A chill ran through Yang Venerable’s heart, but none of it showed on his face as he stepped forward to greet them.
“May I ask, fellow Daoists, are you from the Heavenly Dao Alliance?”
After looking Yang Venerable over twice, the middle-aged Daoist lowered his eyelids again without saying a word.
A tall middle-aged man not far away took over the conversation:

“That’s right. And may I ask who you are, fellow Daoist?”
“This seat’s Dao title is Yin Venerable. Greetings, fellow Daoists.”
Yang Venerable’s face did not redden and his heartbeat did not quicken. For any Samsara traveler, impersonating a nonexistent identity like this was hardly difficult.
“So it is Yin Venerable. I’ve long heard of you.”
At that, the middle-aged man exchanged a perfunctory pleasantry, though a trace of puzzlement surfaced in his eyes as he searched his memory for the Dao titles of the many Supremes he knew, yet came up with nothing.
After taking a closer look at the man before him, realization flashed in the middle-aged man’s eyes. So he was a newly advanced Supreme; no wonder his name was not known.
“Have you come for the Qiongluo Realm as well, fellow Daoist?”
A hint of coldness entered the middle-aged man’s voice. A newly advanced Supreme was not yet qualified to take part in dividing up a major world.
“My closed-door disciple unfortunately perished here, so I came to investigate the cause. I never expected this world to have already been occupied by a group of unidentified ruffians, arrogant and ferocious. I was no match for them.”
A perfectly measured trace of grief crossed Yang Venerable’s face as he sighed softly:
“As a teacher, to be this incapable truly makes me a laughingstock before you all, fellow Daoists.”
At those words, several Supremes of the Heavenly Dao Alliance felt the same pain, and killing intent flashed through their eyes almost in unison.
With strength at their level, they could claim supremacy within the cosmos, but finding a disciple who truly suited them was by no means easy.
Slaughter was unavoidable on the path of cultivation. If a disciple were slain while contesting against a peer, there would be little they could say; being inferior in skill was no cause for complaint.

But for a Supreme to bully the weak with greater power and kill another’s disciple was almost the same as severing that person’s inheritance. It was a hatred that could not exist under the same heaven!
“Fellow Daoist, you may enter the world with us. When the time comes, you can personally slaughter the villain who did this!”
A female Supreme spoke angrily, and Yang Venerable’s heart instantly jolted.
At present there were only five Supremes inside the Qiongluo Realm. If he followed them in, it would not be hard for the few who had been forced back earlier to compare notes before and after and discover his true identity.
Just as Yang Venerable’s mind was racing, a dazzling sword light suddenly flashed through the starry sky, splitting open the sea of stars.
An illusory passage appeared within the river of stars, and the expressions of the Supremes of the Heavenly Dao Alliance changed at once.
This was not a world gate. Someone had used heaven-reaching cultivation to forcibly cut open a path from beyond endless time and space.
The vast might of that sword suppressed the entire universe. Even the river of stars fell silent. The eyes of several Supremes stung so sharply that they could not help but close them, each of them instinctively reining in their Dao Fruits to avoid its edge.
This was a supreme powerhouse of the Sword Dao, one whose strength was beyond imagining!
The half-awake middle-aged Daoist opened his eyes wide, unable to hide his shock.
A sword-shadow shot out of the passage, wrapped around a gray-robed figure. He looked past the gathered Supremes as if they were not there, did not pause in the slightest, and descended into the Qiongluo Realm.
…
Second by second, time passed, yet the white tiger remained where it stood, showing not the slightest sign of yielding.
The Giant Spirit King soon lost patience. He brought his palm down, not a trace of emotion moving across his blue-gray face.

A gigantic palm that blotted out the sky and sun descended, making the void thunder and roar.
Clang!
A crisp metallic sound rang out. The Giant Spirit King’s descending palm paused as he turned his head. An iron shuttle shaped like a saber-tooth, more than ten zhang long and carrying not the slightest trace of energy fluctuation, had slammed into the side of his face.
His gaze lowered, and he saw Shi Lan, calm-faced, slowly forming a hand sign toward him.
Boom!
A blinding white light flared, followed immediately by a terrifying explosion powerful enough to shatter stars!
Bang!
Caught off guard for a moment, the Giant Spirit King’s head was swallowed by surging crimson flames. The force of the shockwave swept out, knocking his massive body stumbling backward until he crashed down into a seated position on the ground.
Shi Lan lifted a hand, signaling Chi Junyu to take the white tiger and leave. Gripping her halberd, she strode forward, intending to seize some Supreme blood while the chance lasted.
Before she could advance, a fierce wind sprang up in the air. Propping himself up with one hand, the Giant Spirit King swallowed all the explosive energy waves into his mouth.
An explosion capable of shattering stars had failed to so much as break his skin. He was almost completely unharmed.
He lowered his head. Eyes like silver moons looked down upon Shi Lan, and a mocking smile hung at the corner of his mouth:
“So this is your trump card?”
