Peach-Orange! – Chapter 191 – Miracle
As the scenery flashed by along the way, Su Tao sat in the sports car, unable to figure out what the surprise Dongfang Yang mentioned could be.
First, she ruled out the option of Xiaocheng coming back to life. That was simply too far-fetched.
Could it be that Xiao Ming and Lin Fangya had been found?
Or maybe something about Chi Song?
It might also be related to her father!
Thinking of the last point, Su Tao’s heart sank slightly. She had once held a sliver of expectation for this father she had never met.
But that arranged marriage, along with Xiao Ming’s utterly repulsive blond hair, had dissipated much of that anticipation.
Just as Dongfang Yang had said, if he cared about her, why didn’t he come back sooner?
‘What did it mean for someone I’d never even met to show up with a marriage contract?’
Having brushed slightly against upper-class circles, she belatedly realized that this father might want to use her to tie down Xiao Ming.
After all, according to Dongfang Yang, that guy was some kind of “Dragon King.”
Lost in her thoughts, the car came to a stop. “What’s on your mind? We’re here.”
Su Tao snapped out of it and quickly replied, “N-Nothing… I was just thinking about how Fang Ning was doing last night.”
Dongfang Yang, hands tucked into the pockets of his red coat, walked resignedly toward the entrance. “That kid’s emotions are stable, but she doesn’t seem to have much will to live. Her body itself is fine, but staying in the hospital is too depressing.
“I had a doctor look after her and then dropped her off at a cat café. If she doesn’t dislike cats and dogs, the little animals might help heal her a bit.”

“I’m always causing you trouble… Th-Thank you.”
Dongfang Yang gave Su Tao a surprised look. “I thought you were going to apologize again. This ‘thank you’ feels much better.”
“Xiaocheng taught me that,” Su Tao said, quickly changing the subject. “By the way, what’s the surprise you mentioned earlier?”
“Come with me to see Professor Su first.”
Going straight to the fifth floor, Su Tao found Professor Su coincidentally in Chi Xiaocheng’s hospital room.
The moment that familiar face appeared before her eyes, Su Tao’s previously resolute gaze instantly softened with guilt.
From the moment she entered the hospital, she had been mentally preparing herself.
It was just seeing Xiaocheng one more time, no big deal.
She had already seen her in her dreams last night.
But when her eyes landed on the figure lying on the hospital bed, tears involuntarily welled up and spilled over.
In that momentary daze, she even overlooked the sophisticated equipment attached to Chi Xiaocheng.
Professor Su stood to the side, waiting for Su Tao to compose herself, then gave Dongfang Yang a puzzled look, as if asking why he had brought Su Tao here.
Dongfang Yang could only shrug helplessly.
He hadn’t brought her here; Su Tao had asked to come.

Neither of them disturbed Su Tao as she sat by the bed.
After three full minutes, the girl wiped her eyes and said firmly, “Dongfang Yang, Professor Su, thank you for preserving Xiaocheng’s body for so long. But I think it’s time to cremate her as soon as possible.”
The words nearly made Professor Su choke on her water.
She coughed several times before saying to Su Tao, “Miss Su, don’t be hasty. Please take a closer look at Miss Chi’s condition.”
“Condition?”
Su Tao tilted her head and instinctively glanced at the ECG monitor nearby.
Still a flatline.
But….
Her skin and complexion didn’t look like someone who had been dead for over half a month.
Even her chestnut hair retained its luster.
Su Tao reached out and took Chi Xiaocheng’s hand and was shocked to find it faintly warm!
She immediately turned to Professor Su. “What’s going on with Xiaocheng? Is she still alive?!”
Professor Su spoke slowly, “I’m not entirely sure either. Half a month ago, we were certain Miss Chi had passed away. We intended to preserve the body temporarily, but later discovered that although Chi Xiaocheng’s heart had stopped beating.…
“Her cells were still active!

“Not just active, they were even repairing her body on their own!”
Professor Su grew more excited as she spoke. “This phenomenon has never been recorded in our country— no, in the entire world! Calling it a miracle wouldn’t be an exaggeration!”
She took a deep breath to calm herself. “Right now, her cells are still repairing her body. As you’ve noticed, her body temperature, which was gone, has partially returned.”
Su Tao’s eyes widened, her breath catching. “So… there’s a chance Xiaocheng could really come back to life?!”
“We can’t say for certain,” Professor Su shook her head. “The fact remains: no breathing, no heartbeat.”
Su Tao’s gaze dimmed.
But then Professor Su added, “However, we have a theory. If her cells continue repairing her body, her temperature keeps gradually returning, and her skin remains active… then isn’t there a possibility that her stopped heart might one day start beating again?”
“That’s….”
“Does it sound unbelievable?” Professor Su answered her own question. “I think so too. Even if the probability is vanishingly small!”
Dongfang Yang, more level-headed than Professor Su and already discussed this before, said:
“Based on analyses by several specialized professors, Chi Xiaocheng’s current condition might be a form of suspended animation never before documented in medical history. Unlike common shock-induced suspended animation, when she was first hospitalized, we noted that her cells exhibited abnormal activity.
“Perhaps this overlooked detail caused her body to undergo changes we’ve never encountered.
“Admittedly, this explanation is flimsy, with no academic basis. But….”
But there was no other way to explain it.

Coming back from the dead was too shocking.
Labeling it as an unprecedented form of suspended animation was far more plausible.
More importantly, Dongfang Yang didn’t dare publicize this.
Apart from Professor Su, the few other professors who had seen Chi Xiaocheng were all his people. Without 100% trust, he wouldn’t have let anyone else know.
Even Chi Xiaocheng’s death hadn’t been announced to the public!
If such a miraculous phenomenon were discovered by outsiders, there was no way her “body” would remain in this hospital.
Dongfang Yang looked at Su Tao, who seemed on the verge of crying tears of joy, and smiled faintly. “However slim the chance, at least we have a glimmer of hope now, just as we once said, right?”
Su Tao continued holding that small hand, feeling its lingering warmth.
Tears fell one after another.
Her murmured “thank you” was barely intelligible.
Professor Su patted Dongfang Yang’s shoulder and gestured toward the door.
“You brought her here too soon. We’re not even sure what’s happening with Miss Chi ourselves. What if this hope is unnecessary again….”
“Relax,” Dongfang Yang said, closing the door and taking one last look at the two girls inside. “Last time, when Si Chen was here, the ECG showed a momentary fluctuation. Maybe it wasn’t just a machine error.
“It’s precisely because of miracles like this that our lives are so vibrant, don’t you think?”
