Cannon Fodder – Chapter 35 – Doesn’t Look Like Acting
Fear. Trembling. Cold sweat soaking her back unnoticed.
Liu Guijia could physically feel that Chi Xiaocheng hadn’t changed at all in strength. With just a little effort, she could overpower this sickly girl.
But her body refused to obey. She couldn’t move at all!
Those eerie crimson vertical pupils, the orange juice-like liquid flowing down her face, the small tongue licking the cold blade as if tasting herself….
‘I’m dead I’m dead I’m dead I’m dead!’
Liu Guijia’s hands trembled, yet she couldn’t muster any strength. Her shaking gaze darted around, seeking help from the disheveled, knee-hugging follower.
But what she saw made her pupils contract again.
The follower was squatting on the ground, staring intently at them. Liu Guijia noticed her face beneath the hair was no longer gloomy. Instead, she wore some kind of infatuated smile, her eyes shining with an unprecedented light.
Liu Guijia felt despair.
Of course. She was just like Chi Xiaocheng after all. Why would she help me now?
“Just… just a bunch of dogs!”
Perhaps anger flooded her brain, restoring some strength.
Gritting her teeth, Liu Guijia glared fiercely at Chi Xiaocheng, trying to intimidate her: “Go ahead and kill me now if you dare! Otherwise you’re dead later! Not just you, but Su Tao too, that b— AH—!!!”
Before she could finish, excruciating pain shot through her thigh.
Threats had provoked action.
Chi Xiaocheng half-knelt before her, a faint smile playing on her lips. “I didn’t catch that. Could you speak up?

“The windows… are all closed~”
[Host, calm down!]
Even the system couldn’t help but intervene now.
[If something happens, we villains will have no chance of redemption! Not even the female lead’s halo can save us then!]
“Relax, System.”
Chi Xiaocheng’s calm voice echoed in her mind. Hearing this, the system finally breathed a sigh of relief.
[Thank goodness you’re still rational, Host. You scared me to death! I thought you’d lost your mind over Su Tao.]
Chi Xiaocheng chuckled mentally. “Why would I lose my mind? That’s ridiculous.
“Actually, I know that although I’ve transmigrated here and bound with you, truthfully from the memories, the original host didn’t die. I just took over her body.
“Occasional abnormal behavior, I believe, comes from the original host’s residual thoughts affecting me.”
Her analysis was as rational as her words.
“Like now, you think I’m impulsive because of what she said about Su Tao, but I know that’s not it. It’s the original host’s lingering hatred after being bullied for three years.
“Even when bullied, she never fought back. She lacked the courage. But I’m different!”
Chi Xiaocheng’s eyes blazed. “I’m not afraid of her, so the original host’s remnants are driving me to take revenge.
“That’s the real reason for my current state. I haven’t lost rationality at all, nor am I influenced by Su Tao.”
While mentally chatting with the system, she unconsciously muttered aloud: “After all, I did say I’m not really a yandere.”

[But Host, you really don’t seem like you’re acting]
[If the original host had residual consciousness, how come I didn’t detect it?]
[I’m scared QAQ]
“If you could detect subconscious stuff, you wouldn’t be so useless.” Chi Xiaocheng’s reply to the system sounded like mad rambling to Liu Guijia.
The already overflowing fear now spilled over completely.
Wide-eyed, Liu Guijia pointed a trembling finger at Chi Xiaocheng, even ignoring the pain in her leg, whispering: “Crazy… she’s crazy….”
What nonsense was she spouting?
“So she was already insane… no wonder… no wonder….”
“Hahaha! Hahahaha!” Tears streamed as Liu Guijia laughed hysterically. “She’s gone mad! That explains it! Hahahaha….”
But who was truly insane here?
Perhaps the wild laughter carried outside, because hurried footsteps soon echoed in the hallway.
Chi Xiaocheng’s small ears twitched. A peculiar smile curved her lips.
She yanked the knife from Liu Guijia’s thigh and patted her cheek with the red-stained hand. The sticky sensation abruptly cut off the laughter.
Chi Xiaocheng grinned. “Don’t be like that. You’re the bully here~”
She pressed the knife into Liu Guijia’s hand.
Then raised a fist towards her own face.
“BAM—”

Tea-colored hair fluttered as she collapsed into the warm crimson pool.
Liu Guijia knelt rigidly before her, knife clutched in stiff hands, horror filling her face. Even the follower squatting behind looked puzzled.
Why would she do this?
The answer came the next second.
The slightly ajar door burst open violently.
“Xiaocheng! What happened?”
Su Tao panted slightly. Hearing strange laughter after exiting the elevator, she’d initially thought someone was being weird, until realizing it came from Chi Xiaocheng’s apartment.
And that voice… oddly familiar.
Rushing over, the scene before her made her pupils shrink.
Chi Xiaocheng lay on her back in a pool of red, while across from her, Liu Guijia held a knife, gaze eerily fixed on the newcomers.
Further back, a girl with face-obscuring hair stared with what seemed like worshipful eyes.
Anyone would misunderstand this scene without context.
Su Tao was no exception.
Clenching her fists, she strode forward. “Liu Guijia! What did you do to Xiaocheng?”
Liu Guijia’s eyes widened dramatically. With a clatter, she threw the knife away, scrambling back in terror.
“I… I didn’t do anything! It was all Chi Xiaocheng! She did it all!”

“You expect me to believe that?”
Three steps became two.
“POW—!”
One punch sent Liu Guijia sprawling.
Then, heart aching, Su Tao knelt, heedless of the mess, trying to lift Chi Xiaocheng.
Seeing her face made Su Tao’s pupils contract again. Her voice trembled with suppressed rage. “Liu Guijia… if anything happens to Xiaocheng, you….”
“AAAAAHHHH!”
Before she could finish, Liu Guijia clutched her head and fled towards the door like a madwoman.
“You—” Su Tao made to stop her, but reason prevailed.
A soft voice spoke beside her: “Um… should we call an ambulance first?”
It was the gloomy-looking girl. After saying this, she quickly followed Liu Guijia out.
Silent, Su Tao immediately pulled out her phone. “Dongfang Yang? Can you send your doctor over?
“The address is… Xiaocheng’s apartment.”

PS: Due to special circumstances, descriptions of “blood” from this chapter onward will be uniformly changed to “orange juice,” but I’ll try to use other terms to minimize impact on the reading experience.
Translator Note
I’ll still use blood anyways, unless it’s more fitting to use orange juice.
