Peach-Orange! – Chapter 424 – The Belated Glasses

In the end, Su Tao still couldn’t resist Chi Xiaocheng’s adorable little face pressing close. Even though it was time to pack, she ended up cuddling with the girl for a while.

Only then did she use the excuse that Si Chen and the others would be back soon to urge Chi Xiaocheng to hurry and pick a room.

For safety reasons, they definitely wouldn’t choose a room facing the direction of that building even though it was already under control.

Chi Xiaocheng understood this, and naturally, so did Su Tao.

Watching the latter go to pick a room, Su Tao couldn’t help but sigh helplessly.

She turned around and opened her suitcase.

Inside were her usual change of clothes, some skincare products she used, the shabby drawing tablet and laptop she worked with, and—

“You even brought that Big Bad Wolf hug pillow?”

Su Tao continued rummaging. There were also some trivial little knickknacks.

King and Xiao Ran’s things weren’t packed, probably because those two mischievous cats were too elusive to catch.

“At least the essentials are all here. They must’ve considered that we’d be staying here for at least half a month.”

Su Tao sighed softly and was about to reorganize and put away the luggage when she noticed a small bag beside it.

Inside was a cloth-wrapped item. When she unfolded the cloth, she found a pair of glasses that were likely stored separately because no glasses case had been found.

They looked somewhat vintage but carried a faint hint of technological flair around the edges.

Su Tao picked up the glasses and couldn’t help but recall the strange things Si Chen had said when he handed them to her.

“I think he said… these glasses could show me Xiaocheng’s feelings for me?”

She didn’t remember clearly.

But the line that left the deepest impression was: This thing is black tech. Just put it on and take a few glances at Chi Xiaocheng, and you’ll understand everything.

“How bizarre.”

Su Tao tilted her head, examining the glasses for a moment, then decided to try them on. But just then, Chi Xiaocheng’s voice came from behind her—

“Tao-Tao, what do you think of this room?”

Su Tao set the glasses back down and turned to look at Chi Xiaocheng, who was standing a bit far away by the door.

“Picked a room already? Let me see.”

Following Chi Xiaocheng to a room at the corner on the left, Su Tao took in the decor.

It was a little plain, but the space was generous.

A large bed against the wall, next to a poster-covered wall with a small east-facing window. If the sun rose in the morning, its light would spill right in through that window.

There was also a fully equipped study desk, a computer desk, two large wardrobes, and a big balcony facing the interior of the complex, offering excellent views and lighting.

A few potted plants placed here and there added a refreshing touch of green to the room.

The only downside?

“The bed doesn’t seem as small as you said, Xiaocheng.”

Chi Xiaocheng sighed. “All the beds here are the same huge size. Two people could roll around on it without falling off. There’s no choice, so it’s all about the location and room decor.”

Su Tao nodded. “If you’ve decided on this room, I’ll contact Dongfang Yang and ask him to send over a new set of bedding.”

Picking a room didn’t take long. Once the luggage was set down, all that was left was hanging the clothes in the wardrobe.

Before anyone moved in, the place was cleaned daily and so thoroughly that not even dust had settled.

After a quick tidy-up, before Su Tao could even chat with Chi Xiaocheng, the groceries Dongfang Yang had ordered arrived.

As Su Tao busied herself in the kitchen, noon soon arrived.

The first to return wasn’t Si Chen, but Chi Song, escorted back by a woman in professional attire.

“This is the place. If you need anything else, feel free to call for me anytime.”

The receptionist for the complex pressed the doorbell for Chi Song, then left with a polite smile.

Chi Song nervously adjusted his collar… until the door opened, and the girl he’d been longing to see greeted him with a bright smile.

“Brother! You’re here!”

The tension in his heart melted away at her smile. Chi Song nodded solemnly. “Sorry to intrude, little sister.”

“Geez, we’re family! Why are you saying things like that?”

Chi Xiaocheng grabbed Chi Song’s only remaining arm and practically dragged him inside.

Hearing the commotion, Su Tao, who was busy in the kitchen, poked her head out.

Her hair was tied up in a high ponytail, and she wore an apron. Her smile was just as genuine.

“Brother Chi Song, you’re here! Take a seat, lunch isn’t ready yet.”

Chi Song scratched his head sheepishly. “Sorry, Xiaotao. I failed to protect you guys again… and even got you hurt.”

Su Tao grinned brightly. “What are you talking about? You’ve protected us for so long and helped us so much. Don’t beat yourself up over it.”

“Exactly,” Chi Xiaocheng added. “Brother, you’re being so dramatic. We’re family. Do you really think I’d blame you? We’re fine, and you’re fine. That’s what matters.”

“Alright, alright, sit down. Brother, tell me about your old adventure stories!”

“What adventures? They were just some shady street brawls….”

Chi Song’s tone was resigned, but oddly happy.

Hadn’t he done all this just so his little sister could grow up safe and sound?

What brother wouldn’t feel proud to be admired by his sister?

Once Chi Xiaocheng got him started, Chi Song didn’t hold back. He embellished the story of how he and Brother Long worked at a construction site and ended up defeating a rival foreman to steal their bricks.

As the aroma of food wafted from the kitchen, Dongfang Yang and Si Chen returned one after another.

The moment Dongfang Yang stepped through the door, his voice rang out in amazement.

“Holy—! That smells amazing! What kind of soup is that, Su Tao? Since when did your cooking skills level up so high?”

Su Tao carried a large pot of thick soup to the table. “I never really studied it. I just used to cook for Xiaocheng a lot, so I picked it up over time.”

“Tsk tsk tsk. Truly the perfect white moonlight-type girl,” Si Chen mused from the side.

Too bad he was a career-driven man, and this kind of girl was a schoolmate. No matter the scenario, Si Chen would never fall for Tao.

But this compliment didn’t earn him any goodwill.

Even as he said it, Su Tao shot him a glare.

’Did you really think sweet-talking me would make me forget how you let Xiaocheng into your room last night, only for her to run out blushing?!’

Su Tao turned and marched back to the kitchen, leaving Si Chen and Dongfang Yang exchanging confused looks.

“What did I do to upset her this time?”

Dongfang Yang stroked his chin, thinking hard. “Probably not your fault. Maybe Su Tao’s on her period. Women get moody around that time, so it’s normal.”

His voice wasn’t loud, but it still carried into the kitchen.

Immediately, Su Tao’s voice rang out again—

“Dongfang Yang! After we eat, you’re doing the dishes!”

“Huh?”

Dongfang Yang’s face went blank, then resigned.

“See? Women are always so troublesome during this time.”
