Volume 2, Chapter 48 – Blood Frenzy (Part 1)

Pushing open the bedroom door on the second floor, the simple room was lit, but Yisi did not see Mary inside.

“She probably went back since I wasn’t in the room.”

Yisi opened the Omniscient Map, which showed Mary in the room containing Kraken’s Slumber.

“Ahh~ Well, Mary’s the only one who’d use Kraken’s Slumber anyway.”

Yisi hadn’t hidden the fact that the bed was made of tentacles from Mary or the fallen girls, even telling them that Kraken’s Slumber could enhance their abilities. Yet, even Shinku, who was eager to level up, refused to use it.

On the other hand, Mary, who one might expect to fear such a monstrous thing, adored it. According to her, Kraken’s Slumber was her friend—it played with her, was incredibly comfortable to sleep on, and even woke her up at sunrise so she wouldn’t oversleep.

“Well, if she likes it, I have no complaints.”

Stretching lazily, Yisi headed straight for Mary’s room next door. Faint sounds of “No,” “Not there,” and soft panting could be heard from inside.

“I know it’s completely innocent, but hearing snippets like this is just… bad. In every possible way, it’s just terrible…”

Sighing like a concerned parent, Yisi lightly knocked on the door.

“Mary, I’m coming in.”

“Huh? M-Master? I-I’ll open the door right away!”

Amidst the sound of hurried footsteps, Yisi could also hear Mary scolding, “Master’s here, stop messing around!”

Soon, the wooden door was pulled open, revealing a half-naked, chestnut-haired half-elf lolita wearing only panties, her long hair cascading down to her waist.

“FB□…”

“F… B? Master, what did you say?”

“N-No, nothing at all!” Yisi quickly waved her hands. The more she encountered situations like this, the more she had to act unfazed. If she screamed like a virgin—”Eek, go put some clothes on!”—even if Mary didn’t feel awkward, she’d notice Yisi’s embarrassment.

Peering past Mary into the room, Yisi found an excuse to divert attention.

“It’s still winter, Mary. Put your clothes on, or you’ll catch a cold.”

“Okaaay~ But Kraken’s always so warm, so I took them off…”

Completely unfazed by answering the door half-naked, Mary stepped aside to let Yisi in, then hurried to the bedside to grab her clothes—which were being held up by Kraken’s Slumber’s tentacles. Mary had turned it into a clothes rack.

The room was filled with the faint, sweet scent of a girl’s sweat. Yisi couldn’t help but glance at the swaying tentacles of Kraken’s Slumber. As always, the bed was made of writhing tendrils, with a giant, chibi-style octopus head at the headboard. When Yisi looked at it, Kraken’s Slumber nodded one of its tentacles in greeting.

“A friend to magical girls…”

Muttering to herself, Yisi turned her attention back to Mary, who was getting dressed with Kraken’s Slumber’s help.

“Mary, there’s something I want to discuss with you.”

“Hmm?”

Mary, still halfway through putting on her clothes, looked up. Her defenseless appearance made Yisi feel a pang of concern, prompting her to add,

“Wait, do you always dress like this in front of others? I mean, changing without caring who’s around? Mary, you’re already an adult, you know.”

“Eh… It’s fine because it’s Master. If Master were a man, I’d be more careful.”

So she did have a sense of shame.

Relieved, Yisi returned to her original topic.

“What I wanted to say is about my identity as a vampire. You haven’t forgotten I’m a bloodkin, right?”

“Yes, Master is a bloodkin. I haven’t even told Shinku!”

Once Mary was fully dressed, Yisi walked up to her.

“As a vampire, I need to regularly drink blood. It’s hard to ask this of a child like you, but to avoid unnecessary trouble, I need you to provide me with blood—just for today.”

Originally, Yisi had planned to bring this up at bedtime, but since the opportunity presented itself, there was no harm in saying it now.

To keep Mary from being scared, Yisi added,

“I’m a pureblood, so it won’t hurt when I drink your blood.”

Mary blinked at Yisi’s words, then placed a hand on her chest and looked up, her eyes not showing fear but instead brimming with happiness.

“No problem at all! In fact, I’m relieved I can be useful to Master.”

“You’re not scared? Wait, more importantly—what do you mean by ‘relieved’?”

“Because Master’s always helping me, but I’ve never done anything for Master. If I’m useless, won’t I be thrown away? I’m not Master’s real slave, and I’m not like Shinku and the others, who were hired…”

Her purple eyes reflected a maturity far beyond her years as she glanced at the floor.

“Even though Master would never abandon me, if I never contribute anything, I can’t help but worry… I even lose sleep over it sometimes.”

“I see.”

Yisi froze for a moment, then gently patted Mary’s head. Until now, she had always treated Mary like a child, overlooking the fact that Mary had her own thoughts. This was a major oversight. If she were in Mary’s shoes—constantly receiving help but unable to give anything in return—she’d probably fear being discarded one day too.

“But you have helped me, Mary. Cooking and cleaning—even though Shinku and the others do it too, you’re the most diligent.”

“That’s just the bare minimum…”

“No, you put more heart into it. That’s your effort to make yourself more useful, isn’t it? If you’re still worried, then strive to become even more ‘delicious.’ Like Camilla, I’ll collect blood from you once a month. The healthier you are, the tastier your blood—something most people can’t achieve.”

This world was full of starving vagrants and struggling slaves, so staying healthy was already a luxury.

“It feels like Master’s just comforting me…”

Though she said that, Mary seemed to enjoy having her head patted.

“No, no, I’m serious. As an otherworldly—no, as a noble pureblood, my standards for blood are far stricter than ordinary vampires. It’s not just about quantity, but quality. I wouldn’t even glance at common blood unless I was starving.”

Using a joking tone to lighten the mood, Yisi moved behind Mary and placed her hands on the girl’s shoulders.

“So, are you ready?”

“Mhm.”

Nodding slightly, Mary tensed up, waiting for Yisi’s next move. Yisi pulled Mary’s collar aside, exposing her fair shoulder.

“Relax. It’ll be over soon.”

Distracting Mary with conversation, Yisi swiftly lowered her head, baring her vampiric fangs and sinking them into Mary’s shoulder. While drinking from a glass might have been more romantic, Mary would probably find the terror of watching her blood drip into a cup unbearable.

The sound of blood pulsing through veins.

A familiar yet long-absent flavor flooded Yisi’s taste buds—sweet like honey, effervescent like bubbles bursting on her tongue, with a slight tang. Instantly, the name of a certain drink flashed through her mind.

Cola.

But just as Yisi was about to mentally make a sarcastic remark in her head and pull her fangs away, an indescribable frenzy erupted in her mind. Her blue eyes uncontrollably flooded red, her Second Form Awakening deactivated on its own, and her vampire wings burst forth.

It was a biological instinct, a primal urge buried deep in her genes—more blood, tear everything apart, bathe in crimson.

Her grip on Mary’s shoulders tightened, her fangs digging deeper as the speed of her feeding abruptly increased. Anyone watching would have noticed Mary’s face rapidly paling, yet she made no move to resist.

“Nn…”

A faint whimper reached Yisi’s ears.

Mary’s voice.

Like being doused in ice water, Yisi’s scattered consciousness snapped back.

What just happened?

The moment the thought formed, the red haze in her mind surged again. But this time, Yisi’s will wasn’t so easily overtaken. Though countless voices screamed “Rip apart!” and “Devour!” in her head, and her hands tightened further on Mary’s shoulders, she managed to cling to her sanity.

Considering she hadn’t fed in two days, one term came to mind:

Blood Frenzy.

When vampires were severely deprived of blood, two reactions could occur: the first was losing consciousness and collapsing, while the second was entering a Blood Frenzy—losing all reason and desperately seeking blood.

Yisi was clearly experiencing the latter.

She tried to push Mary away, but her arms refused to obey. This loss of control infuriated her, yet the anger only threatened to shatter her fragile clarity.

What Yisi didn’t know was that no bloodkin had ever retained their sanity during a Blood Frenzy. The fact that she could still think rationally was already a monumental feat.

To describe Yisi’s current state, it was like an ordinary person arm-wrestling a raging bull. Yisi wanted to pull away, but the bull fought back with all its might, dragging her closer. Her mind was her own, but her body wouldn’t listen.

In her reddened vision, she could see excess blood trickling down Mary’s shoulder, staining her clothes crimson. Mary’s breathing grew labored, each gasp sounding strained.

This is bad. If this continues—

Once more, Yisi tried to loosen her grip, but aside from a slight tremble in her fingers, nothing happened.

Can I move anything else?

Focusing, Yisi attempted to control her tongue and fangs.

—It worked.

Without hesitation, she withdrew her fangs from Mary’s shoulder—then bit down hard on her own tongue.

“Gh—!”

White-hot pain wracked her body, forcing her muscles to spasm. Seizing the momentary lapse in the frenzy’s control, Yisi shoved Mary onto Kraken’s Slumber and immediately teleported to the bathroom where Camilla was.
