Volume 2, Chapter 51 – Mixed Blood

The scene shifted from the wilderness back to the tavern, where Yisi first appeared in the pitch-black first-floor hall.

“Did Shinku and the others not notice…?”

Secretly relieved, Yisi took out a hand mirror from the storage and checked herself. Due to the earlier bloodsucking, large streaks of bloodstains remained at the corners of her mouth, giving off a horror-movie vibe.

“『Second Form Awakening』.”

A faint white light enveloped her body. After about a second, the vampire wings at her waist disappeared, and her long white hair, which had somehow come loose, reverted to silver streaked with dark blue. Yisi prepared to wipe the blood from her mouth with a handkerchief but paused, then retracted her hand and instead licked the stains.

“There’s an indescribable taste… Is it Mary’s blood or that girl—Andrea’s?”

Mary’s blood had a peculiar cola-like flavor, but Yisi didn’t have a strong impression of Andrea’s. Due to the blood frenzy, she hadn’t been able to savor it properly at the time and could only recall the taste from the remaining stains.

“Ah~ ah~”

A sudden wave of drowsiness hit her, and Yisi yawned. But soon, the fatigue vanished without a trace, as if it had never existed.

“Is something strange going on?”

Yisi licked the bloodstains again, and soon, the vanished drowsiness returned. She couldn’t help but yawn once more, but the fatigue dissipated again in less than five seconds.

“Does that girl’s blood have a sedative effect? No, that can’t be—otherwise, why didn’t I fall asleep immediately the first time I drank her blood?”

A bizarre yet intriguing thought surfaced in her mind.

Perhaps Mary’s and Andrea’s blood had mixed, producing a special effect.

“But that’s just too strange… Forget that they’re different races—even if they were the same, there are blood types to consider. Not to mention, how could mixed blood create a unique effect?”

She could only attribute it to this being a magical world.

Yisi felt the urge to facepalm.

Of course, this new discovery also gave her some inspiration. If blood were mixed, could it produce new flavors? If every combination had special effects, could a beverage be created to temporarily enhance strength? Would the effects benefit everyone, or only herself?

The ideas flooding her mind made Yisi eager to experiment—but she decided to put it aside for now.

“I should check on Camilla and Mary first…”

She had always kept the amount of blood she took to just half a test tube’s worth, but this time, she had far exceeded that. Though Camilla and Mary had still been able to speak at the time, she couldn’t be sure they were unharmed.

First, Yisi used the Omniscient Map to confirm Camilla and Mary’s conditions, then headed to the bathroom. Her conversation with Andrea had taken less than five minutes, so Camilla hadn’t finished bathing yet.

Before knocking, Yisi deliberately turned her head away.

“Camilla.”

“Onee-sama?!”

The voice grew closer, followed by a click as the wooden door opened from the inside. Just as Yisi had imagined, Camilla wasn’t wearing any clothes—confirmed via peripheral vision.

Thank goodness for Mary’s foresight.

Yisi felt relieved. Unlike Mary, if she saw Camilla completely naked, no matter how hard she tried to stay composed, she’d definitely give herself away.

“Has Onee-sama recovered already?”

“Yeah, I’m fine now. That girl Andrea’s blood seems to suppress the blood frenzy. Just a little bit completely restored me.”

“Why not capture her as a precaution… No, from now on, I’ll make sure Onee-sama eats properly every day.”

That sounded like a dangerously extreme suggestion. Yisi coughed dryly.

“What about you, Camilla? I didn’t hold back earlier—are you feeling unwell?”

“Hmm… I’m completely fine.”

She clearly wasn’t fine.

Yisi remembered how Camilla had tried to stand from the bathtub earlier but ended up falling back in—likely due to dizziness from blood loss.

“Wait, Onee-sama, don’t move yet.”

“What’s wrong?”

Since her head was turned, Yisi couldn’t see what Camilla was doing.

But she soon found out—with a warm sensation and the fragrance of bath soap filling her nose, Camilla cupped Yisi’s face and licked away the remaining bloodstains at the corners of her lips.

“Ah…”

“So only vampires can truly taste blood, huh? But Onee-sama didn’t blush at all.”

“Hah? Did someone put you up to that just now?”

“Fran said if I did this, Onee-sama would definitely get flustered. When she did it to Shinku before, Shinku turned red.”

Do those two have that kind of relationship?

This world was truly complicated.

But teasing aside, Yisi actually wanted to say something else—the blood left on her lips was meant to be her midnight snack. Andrea’s blood was a rare treat, so when Camilla licked it away, the only thought in Yisi’s mind was what a waste.

Clearing her throat, Yisi feigned composure.

“I’m not a little girl. As long as you’re okay, Camilla, go get dressed and head upstairs.”

“Y-yes, nee… sa…”

Camilla’s voice grew fainter until it was nearly inaudible. Then, facing Yisi directly, she collapsed forward.

“Eh? H-hey! Camilla?!”

Yisi shook Camilla’s shoulders but got no response.

Probably the sedative effect of the mixed blood.

Yisi smiled wryly, feeling both regretful and amused. At least this saved her the trouble of experimenting—mixed blood worked on others too.

“But it’s still weird. If mixed blood has effects, why hasn’t anyone discovered it in a thousand years? It should’ve been stumbled upon by accident, right?”

Maybe there was some other secret she didn’t know about.

“I’ll just have to experiment slowly later.”

Since Camilla had just stepped out of the bath, her body was not only burning hot but also dripping wet. Yisi had initially planned to wrap her in a towel and use teleportation magic to send her back to her room. But sleeping naked, even under blankets, risked catching a cold.

Reluctantly, Yisi had no choice but to swallow her guilt and go upstairs to wake Fran, who played the role of the caring older sister in the group—and to check on Mary—asking her to dry Camilla off.

This earned her some teasing from Fran behind the changing screen.

“Miss Yisi is surprisingly bold, huh? I thought you’d be like little Shinku—stern on the outside but easily flustered.”

“Hmph, it’s not like I’m a virg—no, it’s not like this is my first time dealing with this.” Adopting an attitude of feigned nonchalance to counter the teasing, Yisi deftly changed the subject. “More importantly, Fran, I had no idea you and Shinku were like that. If Camilla hadn’t told me, I’d never have guessed.”

“I just like teasing Shinku because she’s cute.” A light laugh came from behind the screen. Then, Fran struggled to carry the now-dressed Camilla over to Yisi, her eyes full of mischief. “Here’s Camilla, who adores you, Miss Yisi. Please take good care of her.”

“Yeah, yeah. I’ll take this cute little sister off your hands.”

With a resigned wave, Yisi scooped Camilla into her arms and carried her back to her own room.
