Volume 2, Chapter 61 – Epilogue

In early spring, the days of heavy snow had finally melted away. The sunlight was faint, but a bright day was always enough to lift one’s spirits.

Unlike a typical morning, a large crowd had gathered in front of the Margaret Tavern to see them off. Among them were nobles like Auston, as well as Darc and the vagrants from the backstreets.

The first to approach the carriage was the bald-headed Darc.

“Little Yisi, are you really going? I’ll be so lonely if I can’t see you and my dear Camilla.”

“How disgusting.”

Camilla, standing beside the carriage, wore an expression of disgust, while Mary, who was preparing the horses, offered an apologetic smile.

Camilla’s jab made Darc hug himself dramatically.

“Oh, what’s a man to do? Even her voice is so lovely. Why don’t you stay here in Celtic with me, Camilla? I’ll take good care of you.”

Just as Camilla was about to kick him, Yisi, who was standing beside her, quickly stepped forward.

“Mr. Darc, if you keep this up, Camilla is going to toss you out of here in front of everyone.”

“Haha, that wouldn’t be so bad either!” Darc laughed, rubbing his bald, sun-reflecting head. His expression then turned uncharacteristically serious. Just as Yisi thought he was about to say something important, Darc whispered conspiratorially, “Little Yisi, before you go, can you leave me a barrel of Margaret?”

“You should ask Shinku and Fran about that.”

“Darn it, Little Yisi, you’re so heartless.”

Darc gritted his teeth in frustration, then sidestepped over to Mary. As Mary watched in confusion, he placed a small cloth pouch in her hand.

“Little Mary, you need to eat well and grow up fast. Then you can snatch Little Yisi away from Camilla. That way, I’ll finally have a chance to comfort Camilla’s broken heart.”

“You really should just go die.”

Without a shred of mercy, Camilla planted a kick on Darc’s rear.

Just then, the group of Fallen girls came out of the tavern. Even the headstrong Shinku had an expression of reluctance.

“Miss Yisi, are you really leaving?”

“Why don’t you stay in Celtic a little longer?”

“I’ll work hard to make even more delicious meals for you!”

Yisi responded with a wry smile.

“It’s not that I’m leaving because I don’t like you all, Shinku. I have important business to take care of. You’ve heard, haven’t you? A fire giant has appeared in the Hermion domain, and I want to go investigate what it is.”

Shinku’s red cat ears stood on end as she spoke with a worried look.

“I heard that even the ‘Star of Hermion,’ the strongest adventurer in the domain, was defeated by the fire giant. It might be dangerous if you go there, Miss Yisi…”

“I’m a champion who has never known defeat. You don’t need to worry about me, Shinku. In fact, I’m more worried about leaving you all here. If you run into any trouble, go find Darc.” Leaning in close to Shinku’s furry ear, Yisi whispered, “I’ve left some emergency gold coins under the bed in my room. Please, don’t hesitate to use them.”

She had left about 500 gold coins and ten doses of medicine for healing the Fallen’s mark. Considering an ordinary family lived on about one gold coin a month, 500 coins would be enough for Shinku and the others for several years.

“We couldn’t possibly accept that!”

“Even if you won’t take it, Shinku, I’ll just give it to Fran.”

Yisi smiled toward Fran, who was a bit further away. Fran blinked, not understanding, but Shinku knew that if Yisi entrusted the money to Fran, she would absolutely accept it. Left with no choice, Shinku retreated back into the group of girls, pouting and muttering indignantly.

“Fran, you traitor.”

Following Shinku, Fran stepped forward.

“Miss Yisi, do you know where our master went?”

“Master,” of course, referred to Yisi in her “Viel” persona. The previous night, Yisi had removed the slave marks from both Shinku and Fran, giving them true freedom.

“You mean Viel? I don’t know where she is either. By the way, why do you ask, Fran?”

“So her name is Viel… After she removed our slave marks yesterday, she disappeared without a word. We haven’t even had a chance to do anything for her yet.”

“Just taking blood from you girls every day was more than enough, I’m sure. She must have felt that was plenty.”

“Is that so… In that case, Miss Yisi, if you happen to meet her in the future, could you give this to her for us? It’s the only thing we can do for her. If it weren’t for her, we would have become monster food out in the wilds by now.”

Fran took a cloth pouch from Sera, who was standing behind her. Yisi could faintly hear the clinking of small glass vials inside, and a faint scent of blood emanated from the bag. It must contain blood, Yisi guessed.

As expected, Fran’s next words confirmed her suspicion.

“It’s something the Master can use. We were worried it would coagulate, so we used the money we earned from our jobs to buy some vitality powder from an alchemist to mix in. They say it should keep for a long time this way.”

“Is it just from you, Fran?”

Fran shook her head, her long, flax-colored hair tracing an arc in the sunlight.

“It’s from all of us.”

“She’ll definitely be happy to know. I’ll make sure she gets your gift.”

“Thank you, Miss Yisi.”

Deeply grateful, Fran bowed to Yisi.

“It’s just a small thing.”

I should be the one saying thank you.

After saying her farewells to the other three girls, Head Priest Daniel, dressed in white clerical robes, unexpectedly appeared before her.

His expression was grave as he solemnly handed a letter to Yisi with both hands.

“Lady Yisi, this is the letter of recommendation you asked me to prepare. Although my station is humble and I cannot introduce you directly to His Holiness the Pope, I have some connections in the Holy Capital. Through them, and with your Holy Revelation Crest, you will certainly be able to gain an audience. The future of both the Fallen and humanity rests in your hands. I pray you will shoulder the mission entrusted to you by the Goddess and save humanity from its suffering.”

“Yes. I have sworn an oath to the Goddess, and I will not break it.”

“Then I have nothing more to instruct. While you are away, I will provide your tavern with any assistance within the Temple’s power. If any of your workers are injured, the Temple will offer them treatment free of charge.”

As he spoke, Priest Daniel cast a benevolent glance toward Shinku, Fran, and the others. But having been persecuted by the church before, the Fallen girls all reacted by taking a fearful step back.

Of course, whether the Fallen girls accepted his offer was one thing; her own gratitude was another. Yisi smiled and nodded.

“Then let me thank you on Shinku’s and the others’ behalf, Head Priest Daniel.”

“Master, the carriage is ready. We can leave at any time.”

Mary’s voice interrupted the conversation between Yisi and the Head Priest. Initially, Yisi hadn’t planned to use a carriage, as neither she nor Camilla could drive one. But Mary had overheard and volunteered, saying she had experience. Thus, Yisi had decided to bring her along. As for Mary’s slave mark, Yisi had already used her Viel persona to force Count Wales to relinquish his ownership of her.

“This is it, then, Head Priest Daniel. We must be on our way.”

As she spoke, Yisi climbed onto the driver’s seat with Camilla’s help. The carriage she had prepared was a covered, box-style one.

After Camilla had also boarded, the crowd parted to make way for them. It was then that the young noble, Auston, who had been hesitating in the crowd, suddenly began waving his arms and calling out to Yisi, forcing his way to the front of the carriage.

“Miss Yisi! Miss Yisi!”

“Mary, wait,” Yisi called out from inside the carriage. She then poked her head out from behind the curtain. “Is there something you need, Mr. Auston?”

Winded from the exertion, Auston bent over, resting his hands on his knees and gasping for breath.

“Pant… pant… I… I have something I want to tell you.”

He’s not going to confess, is he?

The high probability of this made Yisi’s head ache.

However, Auston’s next words quickly dispelled her fears. He pressed his hands to his sides and gave her a deep, ninety-degree bow.

“I wanted to say that I’m sorry. Over the past few days, I’ve come to understand my own heart. The one I truly love is the vampire lady who saved me from those ruffians. Although I still don’t know her name, I believe that if I continue to work hard, I’ll one day be able to meet that noble and cool-headed angel again. I am deeply sorry for all the trouble my childish behavior has caused you!”

Well, what do you know? Turns out I’m the one being dumped.

Yisi couldn’t help but give a wry smile. Auston would never know that she and Viel were the same person.

“If you work hard and level up, Mr. Auston, I’m sure you’ll meet the one you’re looking for. You don’t need to feel ashamed of your past actions.”

Not expecting such a calm reply, Auston stood frozen for a moment.

“You’re not angry, Miss Yisi?”

“Why would I be?”

“Stop blocking the road, Auston. Onee-sama never liked you in the first place.”

“Is that so… I see. I’m very sorry! For being so presumptuous and rude!”

Auston pressed his palms together, squeezed his eyes shut, and loudly begged for forgiveness. The bald-headed Darc came over, slung an arm around his shoulders, and guided him to the roadside.

“Young man, it’s time to say goodbye to the past.”

With Auston no longer blocking the way, Mary, with her long, chestnut-colored hair, drove the carriage slowly away from the Margaret Tavern.

Yisi leaned her head out the carriage window.

“Fran, Shinku, you should all go back now! I’ll be back in the future!”

“We’ll be here waiting for you to come back, Miss Yisi!”

“Yes, definitely.”

Suppressing the reluctance in her heart, Yisi pulled her head back inside and let out a long sigh, leaning against the wall of the carriage.

“Partings are always sad… What about you, Camilla and Mary? Aren’t you going to say goodbye to Shinku and the others?”

“We already said our goodbyes before we left.”

“Yes, we did~”

“Is that so… Sigh— Next stop is Antonio City, the center of Count Hermion’s domain. I hope we don’t run into any trouble.”

With this wish in her heart, Yisi looked up at the ceiling of the carriage as it slowly rumbled its way out of the Celtic city.
