Volume 3, Chapter 6 – The Rules of Gaining Experience
After the battle ended, the adventurers began to rest and treat their wounded. Yisi took this opportunity to check the experience growth of Camilla and Mary.
Both Camilla and Mary were now level 8, but Camilla’s experience was slightly higher than Mary’s. Specifically, from Yisi’s perspective, Camilla’s experience bar was at 80%, while Mary’s was only at 13%.
“They killed the same monster, yet the experience they gained is different.”
Before fighting the giant slime, Camilla’s experience was at 75%, and Mary’s was only at 5%. After killing the slime, Camilla’s experience only increased by 5%, while Mary’s increased by 8%. Given that they were the same level and fought the same monster, Yisi could only guess at two possibilities that influenced experience gain.
The first was that the amount of experience gained was affected by individual talent. This could be explained by a similar system in ‘Ragnarøk,’ where, for example, among the basic races, players who chose the human race leveled up more easily than those who chose the elf race.
If an elf player needed 1000 experience points to go from level 1 to 2, then a human player would only need 800. This difference in the maximum required would naturally affect the percentage display of the experience bar.
However, Mary clearly had elven blood, so she should level up slower than Camilla.
Perhaps her other race is influencing it.
Yisi continued to the second factor that could affect experience gain.
That was the killer and the assister.
The final blow on the giant slime was dealt by Mary, making her the killer and Camilla the assister. In most MMORPGs, whoever deals the final blow receives the majority of the experience, and this rule seemed to apply in this other world as well.
As for which factor carried more weight, it would take more time and experimentation to figure out.

Camilla, who had to change her clothes because she got slime ooze on them, emerged from the carriage. Unlike her previous casual wear, she had changed into a white mage robe, her blonde hair still tied up with a large ribbon.
“Onee-sama, what’s the situation with the adventurers?”
Camilla came to Yisi’s side and glanced at the scattered adventurers not far away. They were either sitting on stones resting or bandaging their companions. Despite their victory, their expressions were not bright, like those of a defeated army.
“They’re still counting their losses. I had Mary go help bandage the wounded. It should be over soon.”
“I really don’t understand how they provoked a giant slime. Giant slimes only appear deep in the forest. Why would novices like them dare to go so deep?”
“Camilla…”
Yisi had a feeling that if she didn’t stop Camilla, she would go on to say something like, “It’s one thing for them to get themselves killed, but they dragged the monsters over to us.” Yisi gently cut her off while smiling and turning her gaze to the young adventurer walking towards them. Although what Camilla said was true, it would be awkward for both sides if the young adventurer overheard it.
“Have you finished assessing the casualties?”
“Thanks to the half-elf young lady, all the injured have been treated.”
The young adventurer in red armor bowed to Yisi. With his handsome face and neat short hair, any naive young girl would surely be charmed by him. Yisi couldn’t help but click her tongue internally while secretly glancing at Camilla, whose expression remained indifferent, as if she hadn’t even seen the young adventurer.
Seemingly surprised that his smile received no reaction, the young adventurer paused for a moment, then continued smiling as he placed a hand on his chest to introduce himself.

“My name is Ainos, a member of the adventurer’s guild, the ‘Flame Conquerors’.”
“Yisi, the daughter of a passing wealthy merchant. This is my sister, Camilla, and the girl over there is Mary.”
“Miss Yisi… Thank you again, Miss Yisi and Miss Camilla, for your help. If it weren’t for Miss Camilla’s initial spell and Miss Yisi’s timely rescue, we would have all been wiped out. You are the saviors of all of us.”
With great sincerity, the young warrior Ainos clasped his hands at his sides and bowed to both Camilla and Yisi. However, it was obvious that he respected Camilla—who had killed three slimes with a single spell and turned the tide of battle—more than Yisi.
Noticing this, Camilla frowned.
“The initial spell was my sis—”
Yisi quickly interrupted Camilla’s words.
“There’s no need for that, Mr. Ainos. We were just helping out. More importantly, you should fulfill your duties as commander.”
Yisi used her eyes to signal to Ainos that a female adventurer, who had just run over, was standing beside him, hesitating to speak.
Upon seeing the female adventurer, Ainos’s expression immediately turned serious.
“What’s the situation?”
“There are a total of seven people who were swallowed by the slimes. In addition, eleven other adventurers were injured in the battle. Their weapons and stamina are mostly depleted, and they can no longer continue to fight.”

“What do they want to do?”
“They all want to return to the city.”
“I see. Then I don’t need to persuade them anymore.”
The young adventurer waved his hand with a wry smile. The female adventurer, who seemed to be his companion, looked displeased.
“We weren’t in the same party as them to begin with. In the end, if they hadn’t targeted what we were after and caused a chain reaction that made the slimes go berserk, we never would have been in danger in the first place. Thankfully, the people from our guild only suffered minor injuries. Ainos, if I were you, I would have abandoned them long ago.”
“Lala, we must influence them with compassion. That is the knight’s code.”
“All I know is that if it weren’t for the spellcaster lady over here, we’d all be dead.”
Snorting angrily, the adventurer Ainos called Lala turned and walked away. Ainos could only watch her leave helplessly. It seemed the two of them were not in the romantic relationship Yisi had imagined.
“My apologies for making a scene in front of you, Miss Camilla and Miss Yisi. It’s not safe to stay in the wild for too long, and our people have finished resting. Shall we talk as we walk? The sooner we get back to Antonio City, the sooner everyone can rest easy.”
“Mhm, that’s fine.”
Although Ainos had treated Camilla as the one in charge, Yisi took the initiative to answer for her—she was genuinely worried that Camilla’s sharp tongue would say something shocking.

Soon, a carriage and over twenty adventurers set off on the journey to Antonio City. It was worth noting that these adventurers did not belong to the same party, so the entire procession was not only stretched out but also extremely disorganized. Yisi even worried that the adventurers might start fighting amongst themselves over some minor friction in the coming days.
“So this is the ‘Flame Conquerors’?”
Yisi, sitting sideways on the driver’s seat of the carriage, looked down at Ainos and his group below. Thanks to the merit of ‘Camilla turning the tide with a single blow,’ the carriage was indisputably placed in the center of the adventurer group for protection.
Ainos began to introduce his companions one by one.
“Our Flame Conquerors guild has over fifty members in total. The ones out here now are just us newcomers who recently joined. Lala and Kuro are the companions with me this time. This is Miss Yisi, the older sister of the spellcaster, Miss Camilla.”
The simple introductions quickly ended, and Yisi brought the topic back on track.
“By the way, Mr. Ainos, why did you encounter so many giant slimes? I heard from Camilla that giant slimes are only found deep in the forest. I don’t mean to belittle your party, but for just the three of you to challenge five giant slimes, even with preparations, it’s…”
“Uh, that was a complete accident.”
“Ainos, you shut up.” The female adventurer named Lala was clearly the hot-tempered type. She first pulled Ainos back, then strode up to the side of the moving carriage and explained with a face full of resentment.
“It’s all the fault of these rabble adventurers. We were originally targeting a settlement of normal slimes. With the strength of us Flame Conquerors, we could have cleared it out in half a day. But these adventurers who were tailing us, trying to snatch our prey, suddenly rushed out. That caused the small slimes to scatter and flee, which in turn attracted the giant slimes. That’s why it turned into the situation you saw earlier.”
After she finished speaking, Lala cast an impatient glance at the ordinary adventurers limping along beside them. Without exception, they all lowered their heads in guilt, confirming the truth of Lala’s words.
