Volume 1, Chapter 13 – The Revelation

Without warning, a sweet fragrance invaded her lungs, followed by a heavy pressure on her chest and a warm, moist sensation around her neck. At first, Yisi didn’t pay much attention to the oddity, assuming it was just the effect of the steam rising from the bathwater. But as the heat around her intensified, causing her entire body to break into a sweat, and the thing coiled around her neck and chest made it hard to breathe, Yisi slowly opened her eyes.

In her field of vision was a golden, wriggling, furry mass. Yisi lowered her gaze—it was Camilla. She was also in the bath, but she was pressed tightly against Yisi, licking her neck from bottom to top with her tongue. The warm, moist sensation from earlier had come from this.

Under normal circumstances, Yisi’s brain would have sounded an alarm, and her body would have reflexively jerked away. But now, things are different. The sweet scent flooding her nostrils made it impossible for her to reject this comfort. It was like an exhausted person sinking into a luxurious sofa—no one could resist such softness.

“Onee-sama, are you awake now?”

“……?”

Just as Yisi was about to speak, Camilla withdrew her upper body from where it had been pressed against Yisi. Under the dim moonlight, Camilla’s exposed pale skin gleamed with a crystalline sheen. Her dazzling golden hair, radiant during the day, now cascaded like liquid silver down her smooth back. Her crimson eyes, deep enough to swallow one whole, and her moist, slightly saliva-coated lips, combined with the intoxicating fragrance, layered upon each other until, in an instant, Yisi’s mind went blank.

Had she fallen asleep in the bath? Why was Camilla standing naked before her?

But before Yisi could process it, Camilla took out a dagger and lightly drew it across her neck—not deeply enough to wound, more like pressing the blade against her skin. A line of blood beads immediately welled up. Yet Camilla didn’t stop there. As if feeling no pain, she set the dagger aside, pressed a hand to her own neck, then gathered the blood in her mouth before leaning down again. Without hesitation, her lips met Yisi’s, and her tongue pried open Yisi’s teeth.

Sweet and rich.

Blood.

Camilla had fed Yisi her own blood through her mouth.

Thick, warm, intoxicating treasure.

It carried a faintly alcoholic aroma, slightly bitter. The sensation of floating on clouds crept back into Yisi’s mind, followed by an overwhelming desire—both to possess and to be possessed. The wings submerged in the water instantly spread open, like a hunter afraid its prey might escape, wrapping tightly around Camilla, who was pressed against her.

Wait, no—the blood did taste good, but had she ever asked Camilla to do this?

Clutching the last shreds of rationality in her mind, Yisi’s nerves raced. Camilla was human, and the insurmountable gap between her and the noble pureblood eldest daughter of the Count meant that, under normal circumstances, the Count’s daughter would never allow Camilla’s filthy body to touch her.

So, pushing Camilla away was the correct choice, right?

Yisi swallowed the blood Camilla had forced into her mouth, then turned her head away and shoved Camilla back. She stood up abruptly from the bath—she had been far too careless, letting herself fall asleep in the bath out of sheer relaxation.

Like a startled kitten, Camilla remained kneeling in the tub, looking up at Yisi as she stood.

“Onee-sama? Are you displeased?”

“What is the meaning of this?”

“Service. We share no blood relation, and haven’t you long harbored such… desires toward me? This small amount of blood won’t harm me, and I won’t tell Father. If it pleases you, please be gentle…”

Camilla lowered her head shyly, then rose with a coy, reluctant motion. She wrapped her arms around Yisi’s back, pressing her bleeding neck to Yisi’s lips. All Yisi had to do was extend her tongue—no, even just part her lips slightly—and the intoxicating blood would flow into her mouth.

But to indulge in this knowing it was wrong would be the act of a fool. If this were the real eldest daughter of the Count, even if Camilla’s intentions were to serve, she would have punished her without hesitation—filthy humans had no right to touch the Count’s daughter.

Slap.

Without the slightest hesitation, Yisi pushed Camilla away. Narrowing her eyes, she stared at her as if scrutinizing a criminal. Even though Camilla stood completely naked before her, Yisi forced herself to act as if she saw nothing.

Her voice dripped with the authority of a superior.

“Kneel.”

As if she hadn’t heard, Camilla remained frozen in place, her expression blank with confusion.

“Why…?”

“A mere human dares to touch me without permission—are you betraying me?”

“This change… No, Onee-sama should no longer be Onee-sama.”

There was no surprise or panic in Camilla’s voice—just a simple statement.

But it felt like a bucket of ice water had been dumped over Yisi. Her already calm mind plunged into freezing depths. Camilla’s meaning was clear: she had noticed the change in the Count’s daughter—in Yisi herself.

Had she gone too far in her experiments tonight? Or had Camilla used some kind of detection magic?

Yisi had no way of knowing. But regardless of the answer, she had to remain calm. Panicking would only make things worse.

“I trust you understand what you’re saying. Father could train a second Camilla as easily as the first. If you wish to die, I can grant that at any time.”

“But the real Onee-sama would never allow me to share her space. She would never serve blood in a glass. Even if you let me sit at the table on a whim, you wouldn’t change your habits just because you were in a good mood.”

Though she protested, Camilla still obeyed Yisi’s command, kneeling properly in the tub.

It seemed tonight’s experiment had been too reckless—or perhaps Yisi had failed to account for the Count’s daughter’s habits. Cursing herself for her carelessness, Yisi also felt a faint relief. Since Camilla hadn’t used some intangible, unfamiliar magical power to uncover her, there was still room to maneuver.

Yisi let out a cold laugh.

“What? Am I not allowed to experiment?”

This would surely corner Camilla. After that, all she needed was to punish her, and tonight’s incident could be swept under the rug.

But Camilla’s reaction was unexpected. The contemplative light in her crimson eyes faded into emptiness. Then, still kneeling, she bowed deeply at a near-ninety-degree angle, heedless of the water submerging her head. It was a gesture of respect reserved for slaves before their masters or commoners before royalty—in other words, Camilla now regarded Yisi as her master.

“My deepest apologies, Onee-sama. I overstepped. If you wish to punish or execute me, please do not hesitate to give the order.”

What was this? Shouldn’t she be panicking or furious?

This Camilla was all rationality—no, more like an emotionless doll. Things had spiraled beyond expectations, leaving Yisi utterly bewildered. She had no idea how to proceed.

“Whether your soul has changed or not, my loyalty belongs solely to the one named Loiswell Edith Pescia. I tested you because the surface Camilla wished to confirm whether you had been consumed by Ouranos’s spirit. But regardless of the outcome, Camilla should only obey your commands. From now on, I will restrict the surface Camilla’s actions.”

A string of question marks popped up in Yisi’s head. Surface Camilla? Split personality? And what did she mean by her soul changing?

If Camilla had a split personality, then this empty-eyed version was likely the real one. Yisi had that intuition. But “whether your soul has changed or not”—did that mean her earlier performance hadn’t earned Camilla’s trust?

Frowning, Yisi decided to clarify this sooner rather than later.

“Explain.”

“The me before you now is the real me. This secret is known only to Father. He adopted me precisely because I act only on orders. If you are unsatisfied, you may command me to disappear.” After a brief pause, Camilla added expressionlessly, “Whether you change, or even if your soul is replaced by another’s, as long as you bear the name ‘Loiswell Edith Pescia,’ I will obey only you.”

Count Pescia’s command to Camilla had been simple: From this day forward, you shall obey only Loiswell Edith Pescia of House Pescia. Thus, Camilla’s loyalty was to the being who bore that name and title. Even if the soul within the body were replaced, she would still obey its commands.

This was the true Camilla—a living doll.

Of course, Yisi knew none of this. She could only take it with a grain of salt.

“How tedious. Are you saying I’m no longer myself?”

“Based on the evidence, yes.”

Tch.

Yisi clicked her tongue inwardly. Camilla’s expressionless face gave nothing away. That said, Yisi wasn’t so anxious she’d lose her mind. In fact, she suspected that leaving Camilla alone wouldn’t lead to disaster.

Camilla’s reasoning was purely her own subjective judgment. To put it in perspective, if Person A told Person B, “Person C’s soul has been replaced—this is just my feeling,” the only result would be Person B thinking Person A had lost their mind. Had this been the vampire capital of Hyurent, Yisi might have been nervous. But here in this human city, where no one knew the Count’s daughter, no one would take Camilla’s word for it.

Rather than feeling threatened, Yisi found it amusing. Even if Camilla reported her suspicions to the Church, they wouldn’t believe her. Thus, Camilla posed no real danger. In other words, whether Camilla accepted her identity or not, it wouldn’t affect the future.

Not only that, but Yisi had another bold idea.

Adopting an inscrutable tone, she spoke slowly.

“If I told you I’m not who I was before, would Camilla still obey me?”

“Yes. As long as you bear the name Loiswell Edith Pescia.”

“Then I order you to disappear. Now.”

“Understood.”

Without the slightest hesitation, Camilla picked up the dagger and drove it straight toward her own heart.

Before the blade could land, Yisi—with her level 427 strength—caught Camilla’s wrist.

“Stop. I’ve changed my mind.”

“Understood.”

Cold sweat trickled down Yisi’s forehead. She had expected at least a moment’s hesitation, but Camilla had acted without pause. If Camilla had really killed herself here, Yisi would have had no way to explain it. After all, Count Pescia had repeatedly emphasized to his daughter that Camilla was not to be killed—her purpose was to assist the Count’s daughter in governance.

Still, this incident deepened Yisi’s trust in Camilla. While Camilla’s actions could theoretically have been a ploy to earn her trust, the risk was too great and the reward too negligible. Yisi couldn’t fathom what Camilla would gain from her trust.

Of course, as a lone traveler stranded in another world, Yisi wouldn’t trust Camilla so easily. Hence, her next command.

“From today onward, you are not to leave my sight. If I act in ways unbefitting my former self, you will cover for me. Make one move to betray me, and I will kill you without hesitation.”

“Yes, Onee-sama.”

For some reason, Yisi found the title “Onee-sama” vaguely ironic now. But since Camilla had agreed, there was nothing more to say. At this point, her options were limited: take things one step at a time, kill Camilla, or simply flee the Church.

The last was a last resort. The former would plant seeds of future disaster—the Count’s daughter had always been obedient to her father, so killing Camilla would be out of character. Moreover, Yisi wasn’t sure she could bring herself to kill someone after just arriving in this world. Coming from a highly civilized, near-utopian era, she had an innate aversion to and fear of murder.

All things considered, this was the best course of action—let Camilla observe her and correct any behavior that didn’t align with the Count’s daughter’s persona. In other words, use Camilla as a benchmark to calibrate her actions. It was a gamble, but if the stakes were negligible, could it even be called gambling?

After a moment of silence, Yisi feigned nonchalance and let out a soft hum. Though this empty-eyed Camilla seemed doll-like, Yisi had no intention of treating her as one. To her, Camilla was just a dangerous human.

“Stand. I’m returning to my room.”

“Shall I dress you?”

“…No need. Just wait outside.”

“But waiting outside would take me out of your sight.”

Camilla said this with utter seriousness, as if it were an irrefutable fact.

Yisi fought the urge to facepalm. This machine-like logic would save trouble in most cases, but it was also incredibly dense.

“This is a temporary exception. I permit it.”

“If Onee-sama says so.”

As if oblivious to the cold, Camilla walked out the door without even putting on clothes or shoes. Yisi could only stare in stunned silence. She took back her earlier thought—this wasn’t just density. It was a genuine inability to function without orders.

“Haah… Can I request a different isekai? This isn’t just a simple heroine—it’s a crazy one…”

Muttering to herself, Yisi touched her lips. The sensation of Camilla’s kiss still lingered in her mind.

“To think my first kiss would be stolen like this… Really.”

With a complicated sigh, Yisi exhaled deeply.
