Volume 3, Chapter 36 – Pursuit on the Snowy Mountain

“Everyone, retreat quickly!”

The man, acting as the temporary leader, shouted hoarsely. Although he had never seen a Nightmare Winged Fish with his own eyes, it didn’t stop him from knowing what it was—a powerful monster from myth, driven by demons and serving as a mount for Fallen Angels. In terms of trouble, it was even more formidable than an Earth Dragon.

A monster with both flight capabilities and extremely high resistance was equivalent to a nightmare in the eyes of all adventurers.

What’s more, there were many other types of monsters beneath this Nightmare Winged Fish. Even if you removed the Nightmare Winged Fish, the remaining monster horde was a number that the Flame Conquerors could never resist. The scene was so despair-inducing that everyone instinctively felt fear, not even considering resistance, only wanting to flee immediately.

“The leader hasn’t come out yet.”

“Staying here will lead to our complete annihilation. Retreat! Go back and report to Lord Hermion that a disaster-level monster has appeared on Hermion Snowy Mountain!”

“Damn it.”

The Flame Conquerors began to waver. They were unwilling to abandon Clementine, who was still in the cave, but they also didn’t want to engage the monster horde head-on.

Fortunately, Clementine, Yisi, and their three companions quickly ran out of the cave, and thanks to Camilla’s prior explanation, they understood what was happening.

As soon as he exited the cave, Clementine waved his arms and shouted.

“Warriors, carry the mages and run first! Leave a few strong fighters behind to hold off the Nightmare Winged Fish. We’ll be safe as soon as we get down the mountain!”

“Understood!”

With a burst of morale, the Flame Conquerors immediately moved. Clementine then turned his gaze to Yisi.

“Miss Yisi, please take your people and the mages with you to retreat. The Nightmare Winged Fish is not an ordinary monster. Its presence means that a Fallen Angel is nearby. Please be sure to report this news to the lord so he can request aid from the king. Antonio City is about to face a crisis!”

“You be careful too, Clementine.”

Nodding in agreement to Clementine’s urgent request, Yisi turned her head.

“Camilla, have Mary carry Tiffany, and let’s leave the snowy mountain first. There are too many monsters on the ground, and it would be dangerous to be overwhelmed.”

“Yes, Onee-sama.”

Together with Camilla, Yisi joined the first group to retreat. Clementine’s decision was undoubtedly correct, but he had overlooked one thing due to his lack of foresight—the attacking monsters were not just the Nightmare Winged Fish. There were also hundreds of slimes, silver wolves, and ice fairies, like a tidal wave. While Clementine led a group of his strongest fighters to distract the Nightmare Winged Fish, the monster horde rushing down from the mountain would engulf the mages and their companions.

The team quickly set off. Clementine led a portion of the warriors, waving torches as they ran east, while the slower mages and a small number of warriors headed west, the way they came. To avoid being caught, those few warriors threw exorcism powder desperately as they ran—most monsters hated the smell of exorcism powder.

However, as Yisi had seen on her Omniscient Map, the large number of monsters, which would have been nothing on their own, now became an extremely tricky problem.

The first to appear were the adventurers from Blue Sea, who had caused the monster riot.

They abandoned their guild flag and weapons. To speed up their escape, they even threw their helmets and shoulder guards behind them. If taking off their leg and chest armor wasn’t so time-consuming, they would have already stripped down to a single piece of clothing and ran.

When the Blue Sea group, rushing down the mountain, saw the Flame Conquerors in the distance, the despair in their eyes was instantly replaced by hope. They changed their course from a straight line down the mountain to a beeline for the Flame Conquerors. The distance between the two groups quickly shrunk to less than one hundred meters.

“Quick, save us! The monsters have gone berserk!”

“They went crazy just because we took the frost crystal!”

The one at the head of the group was holding a giant crystal in his arms. Upon seeing this crystal, the Flame Conquerors’ expressions immediately turned to fury.

“Damn it! So you were the ones behind this!”

A frost crystal?

Yisi, who was at the rear of the group, turned her head and used [God’s Eye] on the huge crystal that required an adult to hold with both arms.

‘—A source of magical power that only forms in extremely cold regions, condensing vast amounts of water and magic, and relied upon by numerous monsters.’

Tsk.

The monsters had gone berserk entirely because the Blue Sea group had stolen their most valuable treasure.

“Throw the frost crystal into the valley! Otherwise, the monsters will catch up!”

Suppressing her murderous rage, a Flame Conquerors adventurer shouted at the closely following Blue Sea adventurers. But the Blue Sea adventurers, now with fewer than five people remaining, were unmoved.

“This is a treasure our guild sacrificed a lot to get! It’s worth fifty gold coins! There’s no way we’re throwing it away!”

“Waaah!”

The moment the words were spoken, a Blue Sea adventurer at the back of the group fell into the maw of a silver wolf. Although he desperately kicked his legs, trying to get the wolf off him, the silver wolf found an opening in his defenses and bit down on his arm.

“Aaaah! My hand—”

The scream was quickly drowned out by the silver wolf pack that followed. Seeing their companion fall, the Blue Sea adventurers’ escape speed immediately increased. The snow, which had been difficult to move through, was now flying up everywhere from their frantic kicking. The frigid wind felt like a blade, stinging their skin.

Meanwhile, in order to accommodate the slower mages, the Flame Conquerors’ group was moving a bit slower than the Blue Sea group. The distance of less than a hundred meters quickly closed to less than thirty meters.

“Hurry up and throw away the frost crystal! If you don’t, we’ll all die!”

“Impossible!”

“You bastard.”

“[Wind Binding].”

With the sound of a scroll being torn, a green light flew from one of the Blue Sea adventurers, going straight for Yisi, who was intentionally lagging behind at the end of her group.

“We’re sorry, but please hold back the monsters for us!”

[Wind Binding] could restrict the target’s movement for a short period. Using it here was undoubtedly meant to make Yisi a sacrifice to satisfy the monsters and slow them down.

“Onee-sama!” Camilla’s face turned savage when she recognized the spell. She stopped and, holding her staff with one hand, turned around with the snow swirling around her.

“You dared to use magic on Onee-sama? None of you will be leaving here! [Collapse].”

“Aaaah!”

Without any warning, a sinkhole suddenly appeared under the feet of the Blue Sea group. Two of them, including the mage who had torn the scroll, fell directly into the pit and were then swallowed by the monsters that followed closely behind.

But the Blue Sea adventurer holding the crystal managed to escape. He continued to flee, anxiously trying to explain.

“I don’t have any ill will towards you! I’m not the one who cast that spell! Don’t let me get eaten by the monsters!”

“Camilla, calm down. I’m fine.”

Since Camilla had frozen in place, Yisi simply put her arms around her waist and hoisted her onto her shoulder.

“Onee-sama, those scumbags dared to use magic on you!”

“Our mission now is to escort the Flame Conquerors out of here.”

She could easily deal with the monsters behind them. This was why she had been at the very back of the group. If she didn’t think it would be too astonishing to solve all the monsters by herself, Yisi would have already gone on the offensive and driven them away.

Of course, it was better to avoid trouble. By simply throwing the frost crystal away, their group’s crisis would be solved. Yisi took a dinner fork out of her storage and, waiting for the right moment, threw it towards the frost crystal, which was now less than ten meters behind her.

The strong impact, at a precise angle, struck the side of the crystal. Then, like a golf ball struck by a club, the frost crystal in the Blue Sea adventurer’s hands flew directly into the valley below.

With that, the monsters would no longer pursue their group.
