Volume 3, Chapter 39 – A Cascade of Crises
The sun began to set, its orange light illuminating the land and casting long shadows everywhere.
Probably due to the news of the Nightmare Winged Fish’s appearance, the streets were in chaos. People, carrying packages of all sizes, swarmed towards the city gates. Those unwilling to flee shut their doors and windows tight. The sounds of adults shouting and children crying filled the air.
If Antonio City’s streets weren’t so wide, the current crowd would have definitely caused a stampede.
Ignoring these changes, Yisi used a small alley to return to the Flame Conquerors’ mansion. Unlike the main road, it was very quiet here, but with no guards at the main gate and servants running back and forth in the courtyard, the tranquility was only superficial.
Pushing the door open, Yisi crossed the courtyard and went directly into the first-floor hall.
The overwhelming smell of blood made her frown.
Hired servants hurriedly brought hot water to clean the blood from the wounded adventurers and bandage their wounds. At the same time, adventurers who hadn’t gone up the snowy mountain and those who could still fight were wiping their weapons and putting on their armor. Clementine, having recovered his energy with a magic potion, was loudly commanding his subordinates. The sound of metal scraping, people whispering, and the pained cries of the injured mixed together, heightening the atmosphere of an impending great battle.
“It’s Miss Yisi!”
“Miss Yisi is back!”
As if seeing a savior, the originally solemn adventurers’ eyes lit up, and they all rushed towards Yisi. Clementine, in his urgency, took two or three steps to get in front of her. If Yisi hadn’t dodged with small steps, he would have definitely grabbed her hand to check for injuries.
“It’s good to see you’re safe, Miss Yisi. We were just about to organize a search party to look for you on the mountain.”
“The sun is almost down. Isn’t going up now just asking for trouble?”
Thankfully, she had returned in time. While feeling relieved, Yisi glanced at the location of Camilla’s group—they were on the second floor of the mansion and hadn’t rashly gone up the mountain to find her.
“Without Miss Yisi’s participation in this operation, we would never have been able to return. Please allow me to save my thanks for later. We’ve been summoned by the lord and must now throw ourselves into another battle.”
Although his face and armor still bore the marks of battle, Clementine’s eyes were filled with a strong will, giving the impression that nothing could shake his determination.

Yisi instinctively asked.
“What battle?”
“To resist the attacking demon race. Just half an hour ago, a large number of lower-class demons suddenly appeared in the forest outside the city. They have now reached the city walls and are in a standoff with the defending soldiers. The Count has issued a mandatory conscription order. Everyone who has received combat training must join this war to resist the demon race’s attack.”
“Have the city gates been closed?”
“Yes, no one can enter or leave Antonio City now. Miss Yisi, you can stay with Miss Camilla and the others on the second floor of the mansion for now. During wartime, manpower is tight, so the soldiers won’t come to the mansion to forcibly take you to the battlefield. After tonight’s battle is over, I will personally lead you and your family out of Antonio City through a hidden passage.”
As if every second of delay was a huge loss, Clementine spoke extremely quickly. While he was talking, the combat-ready members of the Flame Conquerors finally finished their preparations.
“Leader, we are ready.”
“Good, let’s go now!”
Yisi hurriedly stopped Clementine.
“Wait, Clementine, you know the demon race is very dangerous, right?”
“Ah, yes, but after this is over, the huge sum of gold coins from the mandatory conscription order will be enough for me to travel for a long time. For every demon killed, I get an extra 5 gold coins. This kind of generous reward is something I wouldn’t even dream of. I will remember Miss Yisi’s help today, and after dealing with the demon race, I will repay your kindness!”
Waving his hand with his back to Yisi, Clementine led nearly 20 adventurers and strode towards the city gate. Immediately after, a huge roar like a mountain collapsing came from the city gate.
It was the sound of a magic cannon, a large weapon powered by magic, powerful enough to threaten even a dragon. At the same time, only a wealthy city like Antonio City could afford to be equipped with one.
“One wave hasn’t even subsided, and another has already risen. But this way, I have nothing to do.”
Normally, Yisi would lie down in bed and sleep without a care in the world. But after spending some time with the adventurers of the Flame Conquerors, Yisi had developed something akin to friendship. If she let them die on the battlefield like this, her conscience would bother her whenever she thought about it in the future.
Looking at the adventurers in the hall who were gritting their teeth in pain, Yisi took out a row of low-grade magic potions from her storage and placed them on the table, beckoning to a passing servant.

“Sprinkle these potions on those who are more seriously injured.”
After giving her instructions, Yisi went up the stairs to the room where Camilla and the others were.
“Camilla, I’m coming in.”
“Okay.”
With the sound of footsteps, Camilla opened the door from the inside before Yisi could push it open. Mary was leaning against the window, looking worriedly in the direction of the city gate, while Tiffany, in her slime form, wobbled over to Yisi.
“Yisi, magic power.”
“Okay.”
Yisi sat on the bed and let Tiffany wrap herself around her body while looking at Camilla.
“Camilla and Mary aren’t hurt, are they?”
“Although we were ambushed by the rioting monsters on our way down the mountain, thanks to the magic robe Onee-sama gave us, we were not injured.”
“What about Mary?”
“I’m just out of magic power, Master Yisi. Mr. Clementine and the others… I smell something bad.”
Mary bit her lip, looking very worried.
Yisi beckoned to Mary, signaling for her to sit next to her.
“Clementine and the others will be fine.”

“But…”
“Refill complete.”
Tiffany, who had licked Yisi’s neck all over, let go and slowly transformed from a light green slime into a human girl. She stood in front of Yisi and licked her fingers in satisfaction.
“Full meal.”
“Tiffany, why could you control monsters before?”
Yisi’s question made Tiffany tilt her head.
“Control?”
“I mean, why could Tiffany make the slimes fight the monsters?”
“Dialogue.”
“Dialogue?”
“Yes, communication.”
Was Tiffany trying to say that she wasn’t controlling the slimes, but rather making them obey her through dialogue? If so, that would explain why Tiffany could control so many slimes at once—because she wasn’t controlling them at all, but simply asking them for help through dialogue.
With the biggest question solved, Yisi patted Tiffany’s head, then stood up and walked a step closer to Camilla. She placed her hands on Camilla’s shoulders and brought her lips close to Camilla’s ear.
“Camilla.”
“Eek!”

As Yisi suddenly blew into her ear, Camilla trembled like a frightened rabbit. Yisi couldn’t help but smile, patting Camilla’s shoulder to calm her down.
“I’m going out for a bit. I’ll leave Mary and Tiffany to you, Camilla. If you encounter a dangerous situation, immediately—yes, tear this scroll. This way, Camilla can immediately contact me.”
“So, that’s what Onee-sama wanted to say…”
Her tone was a mixture of relief and disappointment. Camilla lowered her head and agreed.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon.”
“I’ll make sure they stay in the room.”
Nodding to Camilla, Yisi left the room, changed into her disguise, and used teleportation magic to appear in the sky above the outskirts of Antonio City.
Although the battle had just begun, the situation was not optimistic. The kingdom’s soldiers on the city walls were already engaged with the demon race, and dozens of tall demons were ramming the city gate. Shouts of battle and burning flames were everywhere. On the Omniscient Map, the light dots representing the kingdom’s soldiers were rapidly decreasing.
“A one-sided difference in combat power.”
The average level of the Empire’s Fallen Ones was around 12, with three of them over level 20. On the other hand, besides the magic cannon, the strongest combat force in Antonio City was the level 19 Clementine.
“There’s also a middle-class demon mixed in with the lower-class ones.”
One lower-class demon required three to five well-trained human soldiers to deal with. For a middle-class demon, even adding two zeros to that number wouldn’t be enough to resist.
In other words, Antonio City was already in the demons’ grasp. If left alone, it certainly wouldn’t last until tomorrow.
“Hah, it would be a problem if Clementine died here. Even if they had to attack, they should have chosen a better time.”
Adjusting the silver mask that covered half of her face, Yisi dramatically unfurled her cloak and dove down from the sky onto the battlefield.
