Volume 4, Chapter 1 – Awakening

Like falling into the deep sea, the endless darkness and constant sense of downward falling left one at a loss. Even when one wanted to struggle, there was no sensation of a body’s existence, as if the “thing” here was not a physical entity, but a single particle among countless others, driven by the undercurrent.

Even thought became exceptionally sluggish. Without fear or despair, the nerves seemed to have frozen, losing their intended function—a corpse thrown into the sea with a stone tied to it was probably the most fitting description.

This state continued for an unknown period until a ray of sunlight pierced the seabed and shone into their eyes. The body finally exhibited the normal reactions of a drowning person, flailing its limbs, inflating its lungs, and paddling hard, trying to follow the light and float to the surface.

Ugh…

The darkness that seemed to have no end finally gained color: continuous mountain ranges, green plants with dust-covered leaves, exposed earthen-yellow rocks all around, several parked carriages, and faces both familiar and unfamiliar.

…Camilla and Refina?

The two of them seemed to be arguing about something.

Consciousness finally cleared. Like a person jolting awake after falling off a cliff in a dream, their body trembled. All sensations returned: the colorful scenery, the earthy scent of the air, the solid feel under their feet. Everything was telling Yisi that this was reality.

The information in her mind was a bit jumbled, so Yisi remained seated in the chair in which she had woken up—for now, not questioning why such a luxurious wooden chair was out in the wilderness—and began to organize her scattered thoughts.

First, a self-check.

Her name was Yisi, and she had originally lived on Earth in the Republic Era, but for some unknown reason, had transmigrated to a different world that resembled a game. She currently had a younger sister who liked her very much, Camilla, a girl she wanted to adopt as a daughter, Mary, and a newly joined, quiet monster girl companion, Tiffany. Her level was an absurdly high 427, her gender was female, and her preference was for women, specifically for gentle big sisters with big chests.

“Hmm… no problem, I’m still me.”

Reaching up to her forehead, Yisi murmured in a low voice.

If she remembered correctly, she should have just been in Antonio City with Clementine, envisioning the future. Clementine had even asked her what she had done that night.

“Where am I now…”

Glancing at the Omniscient Map, the displayed image instantly sobered Yisi.

This was the border of the Vampire Hyurent, and the Pescia Territory, a place she had always been reluctant to visit.

The abnormal situation made Yisi stand up, and she immediately noticed that something was wrong with herself—her clothes were too elaborate, not at all suitable for the wilderness.

If someone wasn’t carrying her, she would either get her clothes torn by branches and rocks or trip over the long skirt. What’s more, the red vampire wings at her waist were slightly fluttering on either side of her body, as if boasting of their existence.

When did I switch to my vampire form?

Thinking of this, Yisi suddenly recalled the voice that had appeared in her mind just before she lost consciousness.

She had obtained [Third Form Awakening], and right after getting this new skill, a voice that was familiar to the point of being unsettling had appeared in her mind.

“The faker, is it…”

It was her own voice, and at the same time, it was the voice of the true Count’s eldest daughter.

If she hadn’t been hallucinating at that time, and considering the abnormal situation she was in now, there was only one possibility left.

The Count’s eldest daughter was still alive, and she had taken control of the body while Yisi was unconscious.

But where was the Count’s eldest daughter now? Had Camilla and Mary been harmed by her?

The former questions could be saved for later; first, she had to confirm the safety of Camilla, Mary, and Tiffany.

“You betrayed the Master.”

“The one I believe in is only my Onee-sama, and the current Loiswell Edith is merely an inferior product.”

“You just said ‘inferior product’…”

“I don’t plan on taking back what I just said, and I will continue to say it in the future.”

“Unacceptable… those who betray must be punished!”

While Yisi was recalling all this, the argument between Camilla and Refina had escalated into a situation on the verge of combat. Yisi, having stood up from her chair, stopped them with a sharp voice.

“Stop!”

The sudden voice caused everyone to pause. Camilla, whose golden hair was tied back with a large white ribbon, put away her staff, while Refina, with a purple side ponytail, faced Yisi and bowed deeply as if she had committed a grave crime.

“I’m sorry, Master.”

Ignoring Refina’s actions, Yisi took out a small knife from her storage, cut the hem of her floor-length skirt, and walked over to Camilla.

Although Camilla was also wearing very exquisite clothes, her expression was noticeably much more haggard, with a look of sadness and helplessness in her eyes.

Feeling a pang of guilt, Yisi grabbed Camilla’s shoulders with both hands.

“Camilla, where are Mary and Tiffany?”

“You…?” As if struck by lightning, Camilla froze in place. Then, as if she had received a great shock, her lips trembled and tears welled up in her eyes. Overwhelmed by unbearable emotion, she threw herself into Yisi’s arms. “…Onee-sama, you’re finally… finally back.”

“Yeah, I’m back.”

It was just like Camilla. She had figured out that the body’s owner had changed with just one sentence. Yisi gently stroked Camilla’s back as she comforted her.

“Although I don’t know exactly what happened, I can guess the general course of events. The Count’s eldest daughter… Viel, she didn’t make things difficult for you, did she?”

“Mm… Mary and Tiffany are in the carriage… To wait for you to appear, we returned to the vampires together with Pescia… You won’t leave again, will you?”

Sobbing softly, Camilla held onto Yisi’s arm tightly as if afraid she would leave again, and looked up at Yisi with her tear-stained, ruby-red eyes.

Yisi couldn’t help but smile wryly.

“I didn’t leave on purpose. There are too many things I don’t understand, so I need to check on you first. Go help me call Mary and Tiffany over.”

Although she was a bit taller than Yisi, Camilla buried her face in Yisi’s chest and refused in a muffled voice.

“No, I won’t leave your side again.”

“Haa, alright, but if you do that, I can’t move either. Crying will make you look ugly, you know. First, wipe your tears away, and let’s go find Mary and Tiffany together.”

“Okay…”

Reluctantly letting go of Yisi, Camilla tugged on Yisi’s sleeve with one hand and wiped away her tears with the other.

“Well, if we keep her waiting like this, the ‘pet girl’ on the other side will get angry.” Feeling the anger coming from Refina behind her, Yisi took a deep breath. Since things had already reached this point, hiding or being evasive would only deepen the other’s distrust. Yisi got straight to the point.

“I think you already know I’m not your master. The reason you haven’t attacked me is either your master gave you an order not to, or you’re afraid that killing me would also kill your master, right? You can call me Yisi. During the time I control this body, I won’t force you to obey me, but at the same time, you don’t have to expect me to self-destruct and release your master.”

Although she had always felt apologetic towards the Count’s eldest daughter for taking over her body, this didn’t mean she would commit suicide. First, she hadn’t done it on purpose. Second, she hadn’t used the Count’s eldest daughter’s identity to do anything bad. If possible, she would seek a way for both of them to exist independently.
