Volume 4, Chapter 4 – Loiswell Edith Pescia

“Hmm?”

The sudden voice pulled Yisi back to reality.

“The feeling of joy is even reaching me. I had only guessed that using the magic called [Third Form Awakening] would make us appear simultaneously, but it seems my guess was correct.”

The voice of the Count’s eldest daughter was very slow and gave an arrogant impression, ringing out directly in Yisi’s mind. Immediately after, an indescribable sensation appeared in Yisi’s brain.

It was as if a new space had been opened up in her mind. The Count’s eldest daughter—a girl with white hair, blue eyes, and red vampire wings at her waist—was standing in a dark, empty world.

While it was difficult to imagine a person being able to see both real objects and an illusion that didn’t exist in her mind, this reality was indeed happening to Yisi.

Ignoring Yisi’s silence, the Count’s eldest daughter, in the dark space of her mind, lifted the sides of her skirt, lowered her head, and let her white hair cover her eyes, introducing herself like a noble girl.

“A pleasure to meet you—I suppose I can say that, can’t I? I am Loiswell Edith Pescia from the Hyurent Vampire clan, the eldest daughter of the Pescia Count, and the sole heir to the Pescia Territory.”

While watching the Count’s eldest daughter introduce herself, Yisi also looked at Camilla and Refina in reality. Neither of them reacted to the Count’s eldest daughter’s voice. In other words, they couldn’t hear the Count’s eldest daughter’s voice.

If I just imagine an answer in my mind, I should be able to convey it to the Count’s eldest daughter, right?

With this thought, Yisi spoke in her mind with a tone full of wariness. In just an instant, an illusion representing Yisi appeared in front of the Count’s eldest daughter. A girl with pure silver hair and cat ears.

“Though it’s a bit awkward, for now, let me borrow your name. I’m Yisi.”

The Count’s eldest daughter would probably call me shameless, Yisi was mentally prepared for that, but the Count’s eldest daughter’s reaction was beyond Yisi’s expectation.

Her narrow eyes held a playful look. Covering her slightly curved lips with one hand, as if she were very interested, the Count’s eldest daughter slowly moved her feet, circling Yisi and sizing her up.

“Racial traits… A dragon? Or a beastkin? The holy aura you’re giving off is like those Church fellows again. Interesting. Although your appearance being the same as mine is disgusting, your novelty can still be a source of pleasure for me.”

“I have no intention of pleasing you.”

As the Count’s eldest daughter reached out to her cheek, Yisi turned her body to dodge the Count’s eldest daughter’s attempt to pinch her cheek. The Count’s eldest daughter let out a soft “oh” and withdrew her hand.

“A predictable response. Well, it’s time to get down to business. There are still many things that neither you nor I have figured out, but that doesn’t stop me from stating my position.”

Every subtle movement revealed her noble upbringing. The Count’s eldest daughter stood up straight, the previous playfulness and scrutiny instantly vanishing, and a grave, unquestionable atmosphere replaced it.

“I won’t accuse you of taking over my body, but you must give up half of the body’s control. I have things that only I can complete.”

The development was too sudden; Yisi couldn’t fully understand what the Count’s eldest daughter was talking about.

Give up half of the body’s control?

How do I hand it over? And how would it be divided? After all, they didn’t even know why they had become two souls sharing one body.

Even if the Count’s eldest daughter was now making what could be called a very sincere gesture, and she didn’t seem at all like the Count’s eldest daughter Yisi knew, Yisi was not about to just say, “Mhm, okay, I agree.” The premise of a partnership was that it had to be beneficial for both sides, and the current situation held no benefits for her.

“I must refuse.”

The moment the words left her mind, Yisi felt the Count’s eldest daughter’s atmosphere change. The sincerity and seriousness from before instantly vanished, replaced by rage that was suppressed to the extreme.

It was worth mentioning that this feeling was not something Yisi gathered from the Count’s eldest daughter’s changing expression, nor from any subtle movements of her body, but a kind of telepathy, as if every change in the Count’s eldest daughter’s mood was transmitted directly to her heart.

When the Count’s eldest daughter had said, “Your joy is even reaching me,” it must have meant that this telepathy was a two-way street. Yisi couldn’t help but feel lucky that she could only sense changes in their moods. If she could directly read her surface-level thoughts, it would be far too tricky.

The Count’s eldest daughter’s eyes narrowed into a slit, and her tone became much lower.

“Who do you think you’re speaking to?”

“I only know that if I hadn’t used [Third Form Awakening], it wouldn’t be so noisy in my head right now.”

“Are you threatening me?”

“If that’s what you think.”

As if she had seen something extremely funny, a portion of the rage coming from the Count’s eldest daughter turned into contempt. She no longer faced Yisi, but instead paced back and forth in the dark room, and explained in a disappointed tone.

“I originally thought that the person who took over my body would at least have the same upbringing as me. But it turns out you haven’t even learned basic social etiquette. You’re even worse than a despicable low-level noble. Do you know why I didn’t threaten you using the safety of your kin?

“Although I can’t read your past memories, and after you took over the body, I could only get a small portion of information from the outside world. I fully understand your love for your kin from those scattered words. I could have had Refina tie up Camilla and the others and take them to a place you don’t know, and then have the loyal assassins wait for you to wake up, and threaten that if you don’t hand over control of the body, I’ll pass their internal organs to you one by one. Why didn’t I do that?”

As if waiting for Yisi to digest this, the Count’s eldest daughter stopped pacing and slowly turned around.

“—Because we two share one body. Any threat will harm my own interests. I can kill Camilla, but I can’t guarantee that I won’t be erased myself. Likewise, no matter what reason you use to threaten me now, it will be disadvantageous to you later. That is the reason I don’t threaten you. The moment you appeared, the only path left for us was to cooperate.”

The reason the Count’s eldest daughter said that threatening her would be disadvantageous to Yisi was probably because she meant that Yisi didn’t know how to erase her.

Yisi finally understood the reason the Count’s eldest daughter hadn’t harmed Camilla. It was because the harm of doing so outweighed the benefits. If Yisi, in her anger, were to never use [Third Form Awakening], the Count’s eldest daughter might never be able to come out.

She felt like she was being led by the nose.

It was a little uncomfortable.

As if she had perceived Yisi’s feelings, the Count’s eldest daughter made a teacher-like gesture, clapping her hands with a “pop.”

“Well then, that’s enough for now. I hope you won’t make such childish remarks in the future. I can’t see the outside situation, but I can guess that Refina is starting to get anxious. Go explain my appearance to her. You can ask her about everything; she will explain on my behalf.”

As if she had suddenly remembered something, the Count’s eldest daughter propped her chin with her index finger.

“Ah, and of course, if you can find a way for Refina and I to communicate directly, I will reward you handsomely—in ways both you know and don’t know.”

As if she were extremely interested in Yisi’s body, the Count’s eldest daughter’s gaze was filled with greed.

It was a gaze more depraved than when she looked at Camilla.

Yisi had a feeling that if she kept talking, she would fall into the Count’s eldest daughter’s trap. Without even saying goodbye, Yisi directly withdrew her consciousness from her mind.

Only the Count’s eldest daughter’s cheerful voice remained in the dark space.

“Oh my, it seems I’ve made her angry. But it’s still within a controllable range. The initial negotiation can be considered a success. This feeling of walking a tightrope is a new experience for me. What a novel sensation.”

Then, her cheerful tone turned into a voice filled with endless hatred, as if being squeezed out from between her teeth.

“Don’t let me catch you, you imposter who deceived my father.”
