Volume 4, Chapter 13 – Mary’s Cute Day

After the sun set, Yisi went to the city lord’s mansion where the count’s eldest daughter was, to retrieve her body. Edith did indeed keep her promise, ordering Refina to wait at the entrance of the mansion and instructing the guards to let Yisi and her group of four through.

The rest was simple. Considering the poor culinary skills of the blood clan, Yisi used Refina to gain access to the kitchen. Together with Mary, she made pan-fried meat patties and roasted wings. Now the four had finished their dinner. Camilla and Tiffany went to pick out rooms, while Yisi, in her Magic Fairy form, stayed behind to wait for Mary to clean up the leftover food.

After chewing the food in her mouth, Mary looked up at Yisi floating in the air.

“Master, aren’t you going to look for a room with Miss Camilla? If you said you’d sleep with Miss Camilla tonight, she’d be so happy she couldn’t sleep.”

“That’s too early for Mary to talk about. A child doesn’t need to meddle in an adult’s business.”

“I’m already fifteen, I’m not a child!”

“An adult wouldn’t emphasize that they’re not a child.” Mary’s protest with her fork made Yisi smile. “Besides, if I went to find a room too, wouldn’t Mary be all alone here? It’s lonely to eat alone.”

“Hmm… I’m sorry…”

Yisi’s concern made Mary lower her head.

Yisi found it amusing and gently pinched Mary’s ear.

“What is there to be sorry about? You should be saying thank you. Mary needs to get rid of this habit of always saying sorry.”

“Thank you, Master…”

“Alright, it’s going to get cold if you don’t eat it. Mary made too much food.”

“Hehe, I just couldn’t help myself…” Like a child, Mary bit her fork, saying indistinctly, “It’s such delicious food, why don’t the blood clan improve their cooking skills?”

“Mary hasn’t experienced what it’s like to be one of the blood clan, so of course, you don’t know how delicious blood is to them.”

A Magic Fairy’s body doesn’t need to eat. Yisi could only float in the air and yawn. Less than a quarter of an hour remained of the promised six hours. Although she could go wait for Edith early, Yisi felt that would be petty, so she planned to wait until the time was up before going to find the count’s eldest daughter.

“When we were cooking, didn’t the head chef keep looking at us? If he didn’t think it was delicious, he wouldn’t have done that.”

“Thinking the food is delicious is one thing, but making it yourself is another. Didn’t you see those starving lower-class vampires on the street before, Mary? For most of them, just having something to fill their stomachs is a rare blessing. They don’t have the luxury to pursue taste.”

As a cook, it was perfectly normal for Mary to want to share her delicious food with others. However, the wealth gap among the blood clan was too great. For most of them, not starving to death was the most important thing.

Yisi couldn’t help but glance toward the door. Outside this small room, which was less than ten square meters, a group of vampire servants were waiting. They were not guards or maids who had been there from the start but had slowly gathered.

They must have been drawn here by the scent of the food. The lives of vampire servants were not very prosperous, which Yisi had seen from the vampire maid who served her back at the Niru Parish. Coupled with the lack of food and skilled cooks in the blood clan, dishes with an explosive aroma like pan-fried meat and roasted chicken were likely things the servants had never seen before. It was only natural for them to gather at the door; Yisi could completely understand their feelings.

“The blood clan are so pitiful.”

Mary’s words made Yisi scan the table. Since she hadn’t joined the dinner and Tiffany, the usual food demolisher, hadn’t eaten much either, the amount of food left on the table was too much for Mary to finish alone.

An idea came to her, and Yisi’s lips curved into a slight smile.

“How about letting all the blood clan enjoy this food?”

“Huh? Is that okay? But I’ve already eaten some… I’m a half-elf, they might think it’s unclean…”

“It’s fine, it’s fine. I’ll pick up anyone who says that and throw them out. Mary, don’t worry and go invite everyone. Start with the maids and manservants in this mansion.”

“I… I understand…”

As she spoke, Mary put down her fork, wiped her mouth with a handkerchief, and then meticulously rearranged the food on the table so that it didn’t look like anyone had eaten from it.

Having previously served as a noble’s servant, Mary finished the replating in just a few minutes. Then she began smoothing out the wrinkles in her clothes and kept asking Yisi if her appearance was appropriate. Like a girl going on a date, she made thorough preparations before taking the first step.

“Master, is it really okay like this? Wearing such simple clothes…”

“It’s not simple at all. If you wore fancy clothes, you would scare them away. Now, hurry up.”

Waving her hands repeatedly, Yisi urged Mary to act quickly. And as Mary’s voice grew closer, the sound of rustling, slightly chaotic footsteps could be heard from outside the door.

“Hurry, she’s coming!”

“It’s bad if we get caught.”

“I still have laundry to do.”

“And the room isn’t cleaned yet!”

But it was these very sounds that caught Mary’s attention. She tilted her head in curiosity, quickened her steps, and pulled the door open.

All five servants, in their haste, stumbled and fell to the floor.

Mary blinked, not comprehending the situation.

“Huh? You all…”

One servant, quick on his feet, hurriedly explained.

“We-we’re so sorry. We just happened to be passing by and accidentally tripped. We’re very sorry for letting a guest see such a terrible scene.”

“No, it’s my fault for suddenly opening the door and scaring you… Are you hurt?”

“It has nothing to do with you, it’s all our fault!”

The five vampire servants quickly got up from the floor, bowing and apologizing repeatedly. Mary, who was used to life as a servant, was completely unable to cope with the apologies and could only keep apologizing back.

This deadlock would go on forever. Yisi, hiding behind Mary’s chestnut-colored hair, whispered into her ear.

“Didn’t Mary want to invite them to enjoy the food? This is the perfect opportunity.”

“Oh.” Prompted by Yisi, Mary remembered her original purpose. Hesitantly, as if she were very embarrassed, she spoke with a slow start, “Um… actually… I made some food, and I’m not sure if it’s any good… I was hoping to ask for someone’s help to taste it…”

She’s quite good at talking!

Suppressing the urge to snark, Yisi stayed hidden behind Mary’s neck and watched the situation unfold.

The servants all swallowed and exchanged glances before refusing with an expression of regretful self-sacrifice.

“Although we haven’t tasted it, just from this scent that we’ve never smelled before, we know the food you’ve made is absolutely the most delicious thing in the world. Such a precious item should be given to the city lord to enjoy first. It’s enough for us servants to just smell the scent.”

That’s so harsh, just smelling the scent.

Mary should refute them, right?

With this expectation, Yisi waited for Mary to say something cool, but Mary only bit her lip, the conflict in her heart visible on her face.

“…Delicious food should indeed be given to a master… Your master would probably punish you if he knew you were helping yourselves to the food…”

“Your understanding is a great help, thank you.”

The servants all looked relieved, even as they subconsciously took deep breaths, savoring the smell of the food in the air.

If she backs down now, it’s all over.

Yisi broke out in a sweat she didn’t have as a Magic Fairy. Just as she was about to quietly tell Mary that she would handle the city lord and to let the servants enjoy the food without worry, Mary suddenly changed her attitude. With a mysterious expression on her lovely face, she first peeked left and right down the hallway to see if anyone else was there. Then she reached up to cover one side of her mouth and spoke in a hushed tone.

“So as long as no one says anything, your master won’t know. Come in quickly, so no one sees you.”

Her words were fast and quiet, and Yisi felt as if Mary had become a different person, transforming from a sweet and innocent child into a clever and mischievous sprite.

Mary, unaware of Yisi’s thoughts, beckoned with her hand, urging them on.

“It would be bad if someone saw you, so come in quickly. There’s no one else here, and I won’t tell your master.”

Probably unable to resist the temptation of the delicious food, the servants gritted their teeth and scurried into the room under Mary’s devil-like temptation. Mary immediately closed and locked the door.

“I’ve already finished these dishes, so I only called you in to help clean up the plates. That way, it’s not a problem. Hurry and eat.”

For a moment, the servants stood stunned, looking at the piles of food on the table. They slowly understood Mary’s meaning. Filled with gratitude, they grabbed the food and put it in their mouths, thanking her indistinctly.

“Tha-thank you, half-elf miss!”

“Meat without blood is actually so delicious!”

“Vegetables without blood are great too!”

“Much more delicious than animal blood.”

“No, don’t say that, you’re making me remember that damn rat blood.”

“You shut up! You’re ruining a rare delicacy with just one sentence.”

“Oh! Is this a legendary fried egg from the human world? It smells so good. It’s a shame we rarely have animals that lay eggs here, or we could get leftovers from the city lord.”

“This… is this chicken? Not only are there eggs, but there’s chicken too! I remember even the city lord only eats this once in a very long while!”

“Will I be punished by the heavens after this meal? To encounter such a blessing when I’ve done nothing good—hey! Leave some for me, you idiot!”

No longer marveling at the deliciousness, the servants scrambled to get their share, stuffing their mouths continuously as they fought over the food.

Meanwhile, Mary watched the blood clan with a gentle, mother-like gaze. She quietly slipped out the door to keep watch for the servants. Through the hallway window, she could see the courtyard outside. A few wispy clouds drifted across the night sky, and starlight mixed with the pale blue moonlight to cast a tranquil glow on the garden.

“It’s nostalgic…” 1 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa /hug

Remembering the past, Mary smiled.

Yisi, who had been hidden in Mary’s hair, flew in front of her.

“Are you talking about back when you were at Baron Wells’s house?”

“Mm, it was like this back then too. Everyone would be so moved by a little bit of good food that they would cry. Occasionally, there would be kind guests who would treat us gently like that.”

“No wonder Mary suddenly said something so smooth. So you were just imitating.”

“Hehe… I can’t say such nice things myself, so I just have to copy what others do.” Mary shyly scratched her cheek. “But ever since I was taken in by Master, I don’t have to worry about being hungry anymore.”

Although it was true, being told that to her face made Yisi blush.

It was now Yisi’s turn to be embarrassed.

“ahaha…”

“Every time I wake up, I wonder if I’m living in a dream. I don’t know how to thank Master enough.”

No, no, with such a cute girl by my side, I’m the one who should be grateful.

Of course, if she said that, Mary would probably be flustered. After thinking for a long time, Yisi seized the opportunity when Camilla wasn’t around, suppressed her embarrassment, and brazenly put one hand on her hip, pointing to her cheek.

“The compensation is this. Mary, give me a kiss.”

“Huh? Is… is that really okay? If Miss Camilla finds out, she’ll strip me naked and throw me out on the street…”

“It’s fine, it’s fine. Camilla won’t know.”

Besides, this is an expression of affection from a cute daughter. It’s completely different from Camilla’s.

“Then… then I’m really going to do it, okay? Master, you absolutely—absolutely, absolutely can’t tell Miss Camilla, okay?”

“Don’t worry, I absolutely, absolutely will not tell Camilla.”

Yisi heard Mary take a deep breath. Then, accompanied by warm breath with a hint of fruit, she felt a soft, moist touch on the side of her face. But the touch, as if afraid, only lightly touched her before instantly leaving.

Probably out of shyness, Mary’s cheeks were flushed. With one hand, she supported Yisi, and with the other, she shyly covered the side of her face.

“Is… is that all right?”

“It’s perfect. No, it’s more than perfect! I don’t need to wash my face today, or tomorrow!”

If this were a dating simulation game, a pivotal confession would be close at hand. Yisi had this premonition. Mary’s flushed cheeks made her want to pounce and take a bite.

Thinking this, Yisi nodded in agreement.

“Yep, we have to make today a memorial day. Let’s call it ‘Mary’s Cute Day’.”

“That’s too embarrassing, and the name isn’t cute at all…”

“My word is final.”

Ignoring Mary’s protests, Yisi dodged Mary’s hands as she tried to catch her.

As for the fact that the count’s eldest daughter had been using the body for more than six hours, Yisi only remembered an hour later.
