Volume 4, Chapter 40 – Hetty’s Trump Card
On the large canopy bed that could fit six people, two women were lying in an embrace. Besides Hetty, who had vampire wings at her waist and long black hair, there was also a red-haired girl with her eyes tightly closed. Upon seeing this red-haired girl, Edith slowly raised Gungnir.
This red-haired girl was also one of the pets who had betrayed her, and a good friend of the pet Clara. In Edith’s memory, this pet was timid and lacked her own opinions; she would never have dared to betray her on her own.
She was instigated by Clara to betray me.
But even so, it was unforgivable.
Anything marked with the Pescia label could only belong to Loiswell Edith Pescia. No one else was allowed to touch it.
“…”
Edith hesitated for a moment.
The more important task now was to eliminate Hetty. If Hetty were to wake up because she was killing a pet, all the plans made before would go to waste. Even if she wasn’t a trained assassin, she knew that before the target was dead, one should not do anything unnecessary.
She aimed the spearhead at the sleeping Hetty, targeting the brain, which was a more reliable target than the heart. The location of the heart could vary depending on the race, but the brain would not be hidden anywhere else.
Without any hesitation, Edith lunged forward, and the long spear pierced through Hetty’s eye socket, pinning her directly to the bed.
The sensation of piercing an eyeball and penetrating bone was transmitted to her hand. Just as she had imagined, bright red blood splattered everywhere. Before she could even let out a scream, Hetty’s entire body began to convulse uncontrollably, her limbs arching back in a struggle. But Edith gave her no time to react, twisting the spear with force to completely destroy her brain.

In less than ten seconds, Hetty stopped convulsing and her body went limp.
It went a little too smoothly.
Ignoring the red-haired pet next to her who had opened her eyes, Edith frowned slightly.
She had initially thought there would be a fight with Hetty. For it to end just like this made her feel that something was wrong.
Shaking the blood off Gungnir, Edith muttered to herself, “Is it over just like that…?”
“Eek!”
The commotion Edith made was so loud that the red-haired pet lying next to Hetty was startled awake. And when this red-haired pet saw Hetty bathed in blood and Edith standing by the bed, a scream uncontrollably escaped her lips.
Edith pointed her spear at the red-haired girl.
“You’re next.”
She had originally planned to torture these traitors one by one after reclaiming her identity, but now, with anger flooding her mind, there was nothing wrong with getting rid of a few of them first.
Kneeling on the bed, the red-haired woman desperately tried to explain.

“N-no! Master, I was forced! I am still your loyal dog! I was just temporarily obeying this woman’s orders!”
As she spoke, the red-haired woman even disgustedly pushed Hetty’s corpse off the bed, then, with a fawning smile that looked as if she were about to cry, she moved closer to Edith.
“You must be very tired. I… I will serve you right now.”
“It’s too late.”
Without a shred of pity, Edith thrust Gungnir forward, preparing to pierce the red-haired woman’s chest with one blow. But just as the spear was about to hit the girl, it was uncontrollably diverted to the side, grazing past her.
An enemy attack.
It wasn’t that Edith had shown mercy, nor was there any weapon blocking the way. It was a feeling of being a puppet on a string, as if her body was no longer her own.
Subconsciously, Edith wanted to jump back to the wall, but her body only managed to hop back a small step. It felt as if she were stuck in a swamp, every movement meeting with an unusually strong resistance.
It was at this moment that an unusual aura emanated from the red-haired girl kneeling on the bed. Her previous fear and fawning had vanished, replaced by a seductive charm and composure. She slowly got up from the bed and, as if she didn’t even see Edith, sat leisurely on the edge of it.
Then, her red eyes glanced at Edith, who had her spear pointed at her.
“Stop.”

Although it was a voice that lacked authority, one that could even be called soft, it had a magical power that compelled obedience. No matter how much Edith willed her body to move, the spear would not budge an inch. It was as if her soul had entered a wooden vessel, completely incapable of action.
Mind magic.
Although her mind was clear and her muscles other than her legs and arms could move normally, Edith was still certain that she was being controlled by mind magic. Her eyes could not move away from the red-haired girl—who should now be called Hetty.
“As expected, you’re just as Clara said. You wouldn’t give up on reclaiming your position so easily. Although I don’t know how you snuck in here, or why Samael isn’t by my side, it won’t change the outcome of your failure.”
I have to buy time and break free from this mind control.
Edith threw out a question.
“You should be dead.”
“Indeed… I was dead just now. Should I praise you for your clean and swift technique? The pain only lasted a few seconds before it disappeared.” As she spoke, Hetty stood up, pushed aside Edith’s Gungnir, and walked step by step in front of her. “As for why I’m still alive, it’s because I was merely residing in that body. The real me has already been taken back to the main city by Sandra—another fallen angel.”
Pausing for a moment, Hetty kicked the corpse on the floor.
“It’s a pity this pureblood body can no longer be used. For the next few days, I’ll have to use this lower-class vampire as a vessel. Oh, I forgot to mention the most important thing. Anyone I’ve planted a seed in, I can parasitize them after my current vessel dies. All the pets in this mansion have my mark, so you can’t kill me.”
“Then I’ll destroy the entire mansion.”

“Hehehe… I’ve already given you one chance. Do you think I’ll let you go again? Even if a powerful soul resides in your body, as long as I don’t apply the mind magic directly to your soul, she won’t be able to detect it. And among mind magics, there are those that can control a person’s body just by having them look into your eyes. So—”
Hetty lifted Edith’s chin with her index finger, then stepped back to the bed, two meters away from her.
“Kill yourself.” 1 remind me of a certain someone
As if under a spell, Edith uncontrollably turned the spear around, aiming the tip at her own neck, and then, bit by bit, began to stab it towards her throat.
It was a slow, yet unstoppable speed.
Hetty’s lips twitched.
“I thought I’d get to see your despair, but you’re so calm even at the point of death? How boring. Let’s just end this quickly. I’ve got a new body, and I have to reapply the magic on Count Pescia in a bit.”
Losing interest in Edith, Hetty yawned.
However, Edith didn’t commit suicide with her mother’s belongings, as Hetty had imagined. Instead, she took advantage of Hetty’s moment of relaxation and thrust her spear into her chest.
Her limbs were controlled, so she had to struggle with the parts of her body that could still move. Just like the method Yisi had used to fight against her during the blood frenzy, as long as she was subjected to a strong enough stimulus, the body’s stress response could create an opportunity.
So, all she had to do was imitate Yisi’s action and pierce her own tongue with her fangs.
