Volume 4, Chapter 51 – Count Pescia

After the dark clouds dispersed, time quickly moved to the next day. The sun rose from the east, and a pale violet glow appeared on the horizon.

The slime wave and the Frost Giants had returned to the far north through the teleportation array. The swallowed blood clan soldiers were also slowly recovering. As Yisi had expected, these soldiers had at most suffered some minor injuries; the only serious ones were from a stampede, and there were no fatalities.

As for Count Pescia, after a full night of recovery and Edith’s explanation, he had finally returned to normal. Now, Yisi’s group, including the reinforcements like Clementine and Shinku, were all gathered around the carriage. The main characters were, of course, Count Pescia and Edith.

“To have committed such a mistake, at this point—”

His young face full of remorse, Count Pescia suddenly drew a dagger and stabbed it straight at his own chest.

Edith, who was prepared, used Gungnir to knock the dagger away, preventing her father’s suicide. The Count was stunned for a moment.

“Viel, what are you doing?”

“This is not your fault, Father. If the same mind magic were used on me, I would have made the same choice as you. The one who should truly be punished is the fallen angel.”

Count Pescia’s mouth opened slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but no words came out. After a long exhale, he lowered his head to face Edith.

“I’m sorry, Viel. I’ve made you suffer.”

He probably hasn’t even forgiven himself. Seeing the Count’s hesitant expression, Yisi could somewhat understand. Even though he had been bewitched by mind magic, the things he had done were like scars. Even if they didn’t affect his normal activities, they would become an indelible shadow.

Accepting her father’s apology, Edith pouted.

“Although I said it wasn’t your fault, I didn’t say I forgive you.” Count Pescia’s body stiffened for a moment. Edith returned a cunning smile. “As for how you can earn my forgiveness, that will depend on your attitude.”

“I will agree to whatever you say, Viel. Even if it’s joining the rebel army—”

“Oh my, you can’t just say things like that. I, for one, support Her Majesty the Queen.”

Cutting him off, Edith interrupted the conversation, then glanced at the others behind her, including Clementine. Clementine’s group uniformly shifted their gaze to the surrounding scenery, even whistling an out-of-tune melody, pretending not to have heard anything.

Seeing that his daughter did not resent him, the relieved Count Pescia gradually turned his attention to the people around him.

“Viel, these are…?”

“Just a group of busybodies.” Edith paused, pushing her messy white hair back. She continued, “But without them, I wouldn’t have been able to wake you up.”

“So they are the ones who helped you.”

Count Pescia straightened his torn clothes, took two steps forward, and stood in front of Edith, bowing sincerely to Yisi’s group.

“Thank you all very much for being willing to help my willful daughter. As you can see, I am the ninth-generation Count of the Pescia territory, Decreya Cyril Pescia. Please allow me to express my gratitude on Viel’s behalf. I, in the name of the ninth-generation Count Pescia, guarantee that from now on, you will always be honored guests of the Pescia territory. You are always welcome here.”

Even if they didn’t know him personally, everyone knew of the title “Count Pescia.” For a high-ranking noble of the blood clan to take the initiative to bow and thank them made Yisi’s group, all of whom were commoners by birth, feel awkward. Everyone subconsciously looked at Yisi, the mastermind.

Camilla quietly poked Yisi and whispered in her ear, in a voice that the Count couldn’t hear, “Onee-sama, you should go out now.”

“Huh? Me?”

However, Camilla didn’t listen to her and just pushed her out.

And so, a palm-sized Magic Fairy floated in front of Count Pescia.

When talking to Edith, she hadn’t felt much pressure from the nobility. Now, standing in front of Count Pescia, she could truly feel the innate authority and noble temperament of a high-ranking noble. If it had been the her who had just arrived in this world, she would have probably stuttered and been unable to speak properly. But that was limited to when she had first arrived.

Pinching the sides of her dress and letting her white fairy hair fall along her temples, Yisi bent her knees slightly and gave Count Pescia a noble’s curtsy.

“Good day. I am a friend of Edith’s, and also the one who helped her in this operation and shares a body with her. You may call me Yisi, Count.”

“Edith?”

A look of confusion appeared on the Count’s face.

“Edith is what I call your daughter.”

As if he had heard something absolutely impossible, Count Pescia was stunned for a moment. He subconsciously looked back at Edith, who just pouted noncommittally.

The shock on the Count’s face deepened.

“S-so you are a friend of Viel’s. This is the first time I’ve met a female friend of hers. Are you also someone who shares the same interests as Viel, Yisi?”

“No. For some special reasons, I removed the Fallen Mark from Edith’s body, and our personalities clicked, so she considers me a friend.”

Yisi responded to the Count with a very appropriate attitude.

It’s a good thing Edith didn’t refute me on the spot.

She had thought Edith would be annoyed by the term “friend,” but it seemed her worries were unnecessary.

“You removed the Fallen Mark from Viel’s body?! This is truly…” His voice uncontrollably rose a notch. The Count’s mouth hung open. “Viel, is this true? Is the Fallen Mark on your body really gone?”

His face, which was full of strong will, was now filled with ecstasy. Count Pescia turned his head abruptly, as if he wanted to check right then and there if the mark on Edith’s body was gone. His broad palm reached for her shoulder.

Edith turned slightly to the side, dodging him, her eyes full of disgust.

“There’s no need to confirm it, Father. You wouldn’t want your daughter to undress in public, would you?”

“Uh… that’s true… I got too excited and forgot about that…”

Count Pescia scratched the back of his head.

He’s more like a foolish dad than a count.

Yisi couldn’t help but have this thought. She looked back at her companions. As expected, everyone looked the same as her, their eyes less wary and more filled with resignation and relaxation.

A count was just like an ordinary person, with feelings of joy and regret.

Then, Count Pescia bowed to Yisi again.

“I cannot express my gratitude to you in words. The Fallen Mark on Viel’s body has been a chronic illness that has plagued us for many years. I have been searching for a solution all this time. Now that it has been removed, I, in the name of Viel’s father, express my thanks to you, Miss Yisi. If there is anything you ever need, whenever it may be, I will do my utmost to help you.”
