Volume 5, Chapter 47 – Andrea Fred Alvier (Part 1)

A suffocatingly heavy burden.

Like a giant boulder pressing on her chest, no matter how desperately she breathed, not a trace of air would enter her lungs. Panic flooded her heart. Under the threat of suffocation, her body reacted subconsciously, her limbs flailing erratically like a drowning person.

And then she woke up with a jolt.

It was a dream.

And yet, it wasn’t.

Her chest heaving, Andrea’s gaze began to focus—unlike the Royal Castle, this was a simple ceiling supported by wood. The room contained only a bed, a small table, and a low cabinet. Not only was there no carpet on the floor, but there were also no decorations like paintings, vases, or rapiers on the walls. The only praiseworthy points were few: the room was fairly clean, there was a window next to the bed, and beside the window was a flower arrangement that had been meticulously cared for by the owner.

“Ah…”

Seeing the flower, Andrea finally recovered from the shock of the nightmare.

This was her room, and also Yisi’s room. The flower arrangement was a decoration she had carefully selected from the flower fields and tended to with great care. As for this small house, it was an asset she had bought not long ago with almost all of her savings.

“A dream… huh…”

Her voice was a little hoarse after waking up. Feeling a bit uncomfortable, Andrea threw off the covers, put on her cotton slippers, and, yawning, walked outside. Unlike the Royal Castle, this small house had no dedicated place for washing up, so she could only draw water from the well and wash up outside.

Two years had already passed.

She couldn’t remember clearly what had happened when she left. Perhaps Yisi—no, should she be called her wife now? That wasn’t right either. Husband? In any case, that kind of relationship. At this thought, Andrea’s face began to turn red. Recently, she had been shamelessly demanding from Yisi every night. A few days ago, she had even learned from the physician that Yisi was carrying their child.

“It’s… it’s absolutely not my fault…”

Muttering to herself, Andrea covered her face with her hands, too ashamed to be seen. She had originally intended to give that medicine to Yisi and then carry the child herself. But as it turned out, she had gotten drunk on something called liqueur chocolates, not only eating the pill herself but also pushing Yisi down in the process.

With a creak, Andrea pushed open the wooden door. Before her was a field of golden wheat, ready for harvest. Under the morning sun, the dazzling brilliance and the waves of wheat stirred by the morning breeze created a boundless feeling that was overwhelming. Coupled with the air mixed with the fragrance of wheat ears, Andrea’s mind cleared considerably. “…It’s Lady Yisi’s fault too…”

If Yisi had refused her back then, she would have been the one carrying the child.

At this thought, Andrea shook her head violently and slapped her face with both hands, making a slap sound. “I’m going to be a father from now on. I have to work hard to find a way to make money!”

“Andrea? What are you doing?”

“Ah!”

Yisi’s sudden appearance made Andrea cry out in surprise. Having just returned from the market, Yisi was holding a paper bag of bread in one hand and a metal bucket in the other—that was probably milk.

In addition, since the two of them had returned to the life of ordinary people, they no longer had luxurious formal dresses or expensive-looking accessories. Like other common people, they wore simple linen clothes. The only thing that could be praised was still their cleanliness.

Andrea quickly went forward to take the things from Yisi’s hands, but Yisi dodged her with a strange look. Andrea explained anxiously, “Lady Yisi, I told you I would do these things from now on!”

“Mm, you did. What’s wrong?”

“But why did you go to the market again?”

With a puzzled expression, Yisi first placed the metal bucket on the ground, then brushed the silver strands of hair that were always falling onto her forehead behind her. With the wheat field as a backdrop, even though Yisi was just wearing ordinary clothes, she was criminally beautiful.

Andrea stared blankly for a moment.

“I saw you were still asleep when I got up, so I just went to the market out of habit. I also sold the chickens and cows in the pen and exchanged them for gold coins.”

“You’re not alone anymore! Just leave these small things to me!” Andrea subconsciously glanced at Yisi’s abdomen. Although it was still flat, her own flesh and blood was indeed inside. At this thought, Andrea’s cheeks turned red again, and her voice became much quieter. “In the future… I’ll wake up earlier in the future… Please don’t do any more strenuous things, Lady Yisi.”

“I don’t mind, but are you sure you’re okay, Andrea? Right now, just with the cleaning, laundry, and cooking, you’re already overwhelmed. If you take on the farm work as well, your body won’t be able to take it.”

“No problem! I can still do it!”

Snatching the bread from Yisi’s arms, Andrea began her first task of the day with great enthusiasm—making breakfast. Now, all the housework was handled by Andrea; Yisi was only responsible for earning money. Although it was sometimes hard, this was her ideal life.

…?

Like hitting a wrong key while playing the piano, or as if a section was missing from a piece of writing, Andrea paused for a moment. But she quickly recovered her energetic smile, hurried back into the house, and began to prepare breakfast in a clean and efficient manner.

Cheese, sliced bamboo shoots and fresh mushrooms wrapped in bacon, boiled milk, and the bread Yisi had bought from the market.

From preparation to serving it on the small table, Andrea took less than a quarter of an hour. The aroma of food that filled the simple cottage was appetizing. Both the presentation and the taste were exceptionally luxurious, to the point that Yisi, sitting at the dining table, felt a sense of doubt.

“Is today some kind of anniversary?”

“Eh?” Andrea, wearing an apron, her long pink hair let down—she had decided that her previous pigtails were not mature enough—tilted her head with a wooden spoon in her hand. “Why do you say that, Lady Yisi?”

“Today’s breakfast is very luxurious.”

“It’s because you’re having a baby, Lady Yisi. So not just today, but every day from now on will be a lavish breakfast like this~”

“Ehh…” Yisi looked slightly troubled, or perhaps frustrated, as she bit her fork. “Our expenses have gone up again.”

“That’s my worry now. Your mission from now on is to take good care of yourself.” Like a bird skimming the water, Andrea planted a kiss on Yisi’s forehead, then sat opposite her with a blush on her face. “I’ve already decided. Until the end of next autumn, you must stay at home, Lady Yisi. You’re not allowed to go anywhere.”

“So you’re the kind of husband who restricts his wife’s movements, Andrea.”

Yisi’s teasing made Andrea’s eyebrows shoot up cutely. “Of course not! It’s because you’re always so reckless, that’s why I’m saying it!”

“Yes, yes.” Unable to help but laugh, Yisi took a bite of the fried bacon—the texture was just right. Then, as if she had remembered something, she said indistinctly, “Speaking of which, the baby I’m going to have has a royal bloodline. I feel like the burden has gotten heavier.”

“It’s all your fault for suddenly giving me that thing called liqueur chocolate…” Andrea bit her bread resentfully. Although the feeling of being a father was not bad, she had originally wanted to experience the feeling of being a mother.

Yisi gave a wry smile. “I didn’t expect you to be unable to handle any alcohol at all, Andrea. Well, anyway, we can just buy that medicine with money. We can just let you experience it later, right?”

“Th-That kind of thing!” The thought of their intense nights that left one exhausted made Andrea so shy she couldn’t speak. She lowered her head, her face so red it was about to drip water. “Too… too lewd…”

“Hahaha.”

Yisi couldn’t help but laugh out loud, and such scenes played out every day.

Every day was light and heartwarming.

Although the only sound at the dining table was the clinking of knives and forks on the plates, it was not awkward in the slightest. Sometimes, the two of them would even feed each other with their own forks, as if the vampires sitting here were not purebloods, but ordinary people who could be seen anywhere.
