Volume 6, Chapter 5 – The Resurfacing of Mixed Blood
“You mean the next Pope? I heard she is a very beautiful girl.”
When I stole the necklace from the next Pope, I didn’t pay attention to what she looked like because of the urgency. I only remember that she was a girl with long silver hair. Like my own silver hair during my [Third Form Awakening], there were no other colors mixed in her hair; it was completely silver, reminding me of the hidden race in “Ragnarøk”.
That was the race that stood opposite the demon race symbolized by purple eyes, a race that had achieved the pinnacle of mana manipulation.
If Mary is of the demon race, then the next Pope must be of the Divine Race, right?
Making an outlandish joke in her mind, Yisi continued to listen to Shalu’s explanation.
“I have some acquaintance with the next Pope. I will tell you how to meet her, and then you can meet the current Pope through her. Is that alright with you?”
“Of course.”
A look of relief flashed through Shalu’s deep green eyes.
“The next Pope performs baptisms for the people on the last day of every week at the central temple in Mitters Bayer. Although the main hall is crowded with believers every time, as long as you go early, you won’t have to worry about not having a spot. You can find an opportunity to speak with the next Pope then. I will inform her of this matter beforehand, so you don’t have to worry about her being unwilling to see you.”
Although this means I’ll meet Shalu again, she probably won’t discover my lie about my identity in just one day.
“Ah, thank you, Shalu.”

“It’s just a small matter. You don’t need to worry about it, benefactor.”
After speaking, Shalu gave Yisi a graceful curtsy. Her gentle demeanor made Yisi feel that all her previous speculations were just her own misconceptions.
Camilla poked Yisi in the waist and, in a motion that Shalu couldn’t see, hid behind Yisi and whispered a reminder.
“Onee-sama, the blood.”
Ah.
I almost forgot to bring blood back for Pepe and Refina.
Yisi started to get a headache.
It would have been fine if we hadn’t spoken much, but now that we’ve gotten to know each other, I don’t know how to bring it up.
Seeing that Shalu was about to turn and board her carriage, Yisi could only brace herself and speak.
“Um, I have one more impudent request.”

“Please speak, benefactor.”
Yisi scratched her cheek.
“Actually, apart from my public identity, I am also an alchemist.”
“Do you need alchemy materials? A magic core? Or a monster’s corpse? After we return to the city, I can suggest to the church that the gold coins gifted to you be exchanged for alchemy materials of equivalent value.”
“It’s not that I need them, but the friend who taught me alchemy does. And the thing my friend wants is something the church probably won’t give us.”
The Ymir Church forbids all forms of human blood trade, so no matter what, she could never obtain blood from the church.
Yisi approached Shalu with a mysterious expression. She had expected Shalu to be frightened or disgusted, but instead, Yisi saw curiosity and a sense of novelty flash in Shalu’s deep green eyes.
“Actually, it’s like this. The thing my friend wants is the blood of a maiden, and it must be a pure maiden. That’s why I told the bandit earlier that what I wanted was a woman.”
“This alchemy ingredient can allow my friend to concoct a medicine of great power. The energy contained within is enough to allow a Tier 1 magic caster to use a Tier 2 spell. The alchemy is only one step away from completion. I heard you say earlier, Miss Shalu, that you are one who serves God. Could I ask you for some of your blood? It doesn’t need to be a lot. If there’s anything you need, Miss Shalu, my friend can get it for you afterward.”
In truth, any maiden’s blood would do. The so-called ‘purity’ was just a means for Yisi to add a sense of mystery. After all, alchemists love to emphasize such things, even if from a scientific perspective, there is no difference between the blood of a pure maiden and that of a mature one.
As for allowing a Tier 1 magic caster to use a Tier 2 spell, Yisi was not lying. If it was mixed blood containing her saliva, it could indeed achieve a similar effect. For example, when Andrea’s blood and Mary’s blood were mixed, the resulting product had a potent sleep-inducing effect; even she, at level 427, couldn’t help but yawn. And if Camilla’s blood and Refina’s blood were mixed, it could create a mixed blood that enhanced mental strength and greatly increased elemental affinity. The practical effect was being able to easily see through illusions and use magic beyond one’s tier.

It was just that for certain reasons, Yisi had not delved deeply into whether it was Camilla’s blood or Refina’s blood that played a greater role in the mixed blood.
The thought that her saliva was a necessary neutralizing agent in the mixed blood made Yisi unwilling to waste any more time on it. Firstly, the mixed blood was of little practical use to her. Secondly, she could never pass off something mixed with her saliva as a potion for others to drink. It was the perversion of perversions.
“How about it?”
Carefully, Yisi raised her eyes to observe Shalu. Shalu’s head was lowered, her long eyelashes trembling slightly. She didn’t even notice that one of her light-green pigtails had been blown loose by the wind, her brow furrowed as if she were contemplating something very important.
“Ah, I’m very sorry, I was just thinking about something else. I have no problem giving you my blood, benefactor, but please be gentle so the guards don’t see. Also… to be honest, I am very interested in the alchemical product you mentioned. If possible, after it’s made, could your friend spare a bottle for me? I know this is an outrageous request. A potion that allows a magic caster to use magic beyond their tier must contain materials so rare that ordinary people can’t even imagine them, and the time and effort required would be too immense to be measured in gold coins. But as long as your friend is willing to name a price, I will definitely find a way to raise the funds.”
“This…”
Making it isn’t a problem. Camilla and Refina are right here, and I only need a drop of blood from each of them. Then, by dripping their blood and my saliva into water, that bucket of water will have the abilities I described. It won’t cause any real harm to Camilla and Refina. The only problem before me is still the saliva.
Forget about those unhygienic men who could share the same strand of dental floss. To give mixed blood to a beautiful girl like Shalu—a pure priestess who serves God, no less—I just can’t bring myself to say it.
This time, it was Shalu’s turn to press the question, her face filled with urgency.
“I know this puts you in a difficult position, benefactor, but I am in great need of such a powerful item. If you are willing to join hands with me—”

Join hands?
Just as Yisi was wondering, Shalu suddenly changed her tune, pulling out a short dagger from somewhere and pressing it against her own palm.
“It’s alright if it’s not possible this time. You can come to me for blood at any time. But I hope that the next time I see you, you can bring me your friend’s answer.”
She needs it that desperately…
Yisi thought for a moment.
I’ll decide whether to refuse or agree later, depending on the situation. If this potion is so important to Shalu that she can’t overcome some difficulty without it, I’ll give her one. Of course, I’ll never tell her what ingredients it contains.
Yisi nodded.
“Alright, I’ll try to ask my friend for you, but whether she agrees is another matter.”
“Thank you very much.”
After speaking, Shalu hesitated slightly before applying gentle pressure in her hand, allowing the short blade to break her skin.
