Volume 1, Chapter 28 – A Leisurely Stroll in Niru City (Part 2)

“What would Camilla do if she saw an injured bird?”

The journey without conversation was too dull, so Yisi tried to find a topic. Initially, she had thought Camilla was the type to remain silent and only follow orders, but after a morning of conversation, Yisi realized that Camilla wasn’t taciturn by nature—in fact, she occasionally offered awkwardly blunt remarks.

Camilla blinked, clearly expressing confusion.

“What does Onee-sama mean?”

“Wouldn’t you pick it up and heal it?”

“If that is your wish, I will pick it up.”

So when faced with such choices, she would just stand by and watch…

“After healing it, would you keep it or let it go?”

“Hmm.”

This time, Camilla didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she lowered her head in thought. Yisi couldn’t help but smile wryly—she was beginning to understand Camilla’s behavioral patterns. In her normal state, Camilla was intelligent and highly observant, but when confronted with a choice and lacking explicit orders, she would fall into a dilemma, unsure of what to do.

Their back-and-forth dialogue soon ended as they arrived at a clothing store. It was one of the few ready-made garment shops in the city. Generally, families in this world would buy fabric and have the mother of the household cut and sew it into clothing. Though laborious, this method saved a great deal of money. Because of this custom, a woman’s skill in sewing became an important factor in attracting men.

“How may I assist you, honored guests?”

The moment they stepped inside, a young woman with a professional smile approached them. Upon noticing the noble attire of Yisi and Camilla—though she faltered slightly at Yisi’s intimidating appearance—her smile grew even brighter.

“Would the two young ladies like to order formal dresses?”

“No, I’d like some lightweight clothing and winter outfits.”

“Of course, this way, please.”

With that, Yisi was led into a room filled with all kinds of women’s clothing.

I want to leave.

That was Yisi’s first thought. Aside from the plain cloth garments worn by commoners, there were also many lace-trimmed undergarments. In her past life, if she had stepped into such a place, she would have been arrested on the spot as a pervert.

If she were alone, Yisi might have mustered a bit more courage. But with Camilla and the shop assistant present, even though she was now the eldest daughter of a count, she still felt stiff all over, her gaze darting away from the undergarments.

Noticing Yisi’s strange expression, the shop assistant hesitantly brought out several elegant outfits.

“Indeed… from your discerning perspective, our ready-made garments may not be satisfactory. But we do accept custom orders for formal dresses. Many nobles have commissioned clothing from us in the past…”

No, no, that’s not what I meant!

Yisi hurriedly apologized in her heart before clearing her throat and directing her gaze toward the more conservative long dresses on the other side.

Of course, switching to trousers was also an option. But first, trousers lacked aesthetic appeal and would ruin the image of a noble eldest daughter. Second—and this was Yisi’s personal bias—young girls ought to wear gorgeous, flowing dresses.

For the sake of beauty, there was no other choice.

Repeating this line in her mind countless times, Yisi finally mustered the courage to have the assistant take a dress from the rack and hold it against her petite frame. It was a bit too large—especially around the chest.

The shop assistant’s face showed a hint of awkwardness.

“I’ll fetch another one for you right away.”

“Ah, no need to go to that trouble.”

With her vampire wings, trying on clothes on the spot was impossible. As for the sizing, a tailor could easily make adjustments. As for the chest size, Yisi didn’t consider it an embarrassing topic.

Thinking this, she turned to Camilla. For some reason, Camilla always wore the same cold-looking, off-shoulder black dress. In winter, she’d catch a cold within hours.

Considering that Camilla might have been ordered to “wear this dress” and thus never changed outfits, Yisi pondered for a moment before speaking.

“Find some clothes for her—the more, the better.”

The shop assistant’s eyes lit up at this nouveau riche-like declaration.

“Leave it to me!”

In less than five minutes, the assistant returned with a massive pile of clothes.

“These are this year’s new arrivals. I’ve gathered everything in this young lady’s size.”

“Ah, Camilla, try them on.”

Yisi had expected Camilla to immediately reply, “Yes.” But things didn’t go as planned—Camilla’s face only showed confusion.

“Onee-sama?”

“What’s wrong?”

“…Nothing.”

Camilla shook her head, her expression returning to its usual blankness as she accepted the clothes from the assistant.

Though curious about what Camilla had wanted to say, Yisi didn’t press further, as doing so would have been impolite. She dismissed the thought.

Then, Camilla proceeded to undress on the spot.

Her smooth, radiant body was suddenly exposed to Yisi and the shop assistant.

“Ah.”

“Uh…”

Two incoherent sounds escaped almost simultaneously. In the next instant, Yisi’s face turned bright red, and she averted her gaze at lightning speed. Meanwhile, the shop assistant stepped forward and wrapped Camilla in a thick blanket.

Only Camilla herself wore a look of utter bewilderment.

“What happened?”

“‘What happened’…? Miss, have you never bought clothes from a store before? Forget the possibility of a man walking in—it’s late autumn! You’ll catch a chill!”

“Y-Yeah!”

Still turned away, Yisi chimed in. Though she had seen Camilla naked before—that time in the bathhouse had been an accident, and she’d had to maintain her composure to play the part of the noble eldest daughter—this sudden full exposure triggered an instinctive reaction to look away.

Of course, as a normal person, Yisi’s mind kept replaying the stunning image she’d just seen.

After the commotion settled slightly, the shop assistant began eyeing Yisi with a strange look. From a normal perspective, as Camilla’s sister, there was no reason for Yisi to turn away—in fact, doing so was downright baffling.

“Young miss… you’re her elder sister, correct?”

“Ah, yes.”

Still not turning around.

“Then why—”

“Never mind that. Just pack one of each, along with accessories and winter clothes. If you don’t have them, I’ll go elsewhere.”

“Understood! I’ll prepare them right away!”

Under Yisi’s near-threatening tone, the assistant scurried off to the storeroom in a panic. Since Camilla still hadn’t dressed, Yisi remained with her back turned.

What Yisi failed to notice was that Camilla’s expression at this moment wasn’t its usual blankness. Instead, she looked like a child who had never received a gift before—utterly bewildered, unable to comprehend what was happening.

It was worth noting that this emotion had first emerged the moment Yisi said she would buy clothes for Camilla.
