Volume 6, Chapter 48 – A Sharp Whistle
Why the sudden question?
When teleportation magic was mentioned, Yisi almost thought that Evelyn had seen through the fact that she could use it. After all, the process of bringing Andrea to the church and then taking her out of Mitters Bayer was very strange. It was very likely that Evelyn had connected it to teleportation magic.
“Are you thinking of escaping with teleportation magic, Evelyn?”
“Shh, are you trying to get me killed? Keep your voice down.” Her slender index finger made a shushing gesture at her lips. Evelyn frowned. “Only a fool would want to use teleportation magic to leave the Ymir Territory. With my magic power, teleporting ten meters at most would be a good result. I’m asking for something else.”
“Something else?” If Evelyn wanted to tell her, she would have said it long ago. Having no intention of prying, Yisi simply shook her head. “I don’t know. If I knew, I would definitely tell you.”
Although she could use teleportation magic, it didn’t mean she could teach it to others. If her magic could be taught, Camilla and Mary would now be talents that the armies of various countries would be scrambling to recruit.
With a look that said ‘as expected’, Evelyn, who hadn’t held much hope, shook her head in regret.
“As I thought. Teleportation magic and magic that allows one to travel underground are not things that can be easily obtained. If only I could take a look at the fifth level…”
The fifth level?
Catching the words that piqued her interest, Yisi blinked. Perhaps she should pay more attention to Evelyn’s movements from now on.
At this moment, a squad of paladins with blue emblems carved on their armor stopped beside Evelyn. They bent down neatly and bowed to her.
“Lady Evelyn.”
“Mm.” Evelyn put away the thoughtful look on her face and nodded slightly at the paladins. “How is the investigation?”
“The target is still being searched for, but we have found two Fallen who were fleeing in the city.”

As he spoke, the paladin beckoned to the rear. A Fallen bound in iron chains was brought before Evelyn under the escort of two paladins. In addition, Yisi also noticed that one of the paladins in the team had his abdomen covered in blood and needed the support of a comrade to walk.
Glancing at the Fallen with disgust, Evelyn turned her gaze to the paladin.
“Don’t let your guard down. There may still be fish that have slipped through the net in the Holy City. You must search house by house.”
“Yes.”
Bowing to Evelyn again, the leading paladin prepared to leave with his subordinates. Yisi called out to them.
“Wait, isn’t this person’s injury healed yet?”
‘This person’ of course referred to the injured paladin. The man’s short black hair was already soaked with sweat, and his face was full of pain.
The paladin captain lowered his head in shame.
“Yes… in the process of searching for the monster separately, Ambil was stabbed by a Fallen who suddenly rushed out. We are Inquisition Knights and have not learned healing magic, so we can only take him back to the temple for treatment. Damn it.”
As if to vent his anger, the paladin shot a fierce glare at the Fallen. If it weren’t for Evelyn standing in front of him, he would have surely punched him. Yisi had this premonition. In fact, the Fallen who was bound in chains was covered in injuries and had clearly already been beaten once.
“Don’t move,” passing the other paladins, Yisi went directly to the paladin who was looking up with a pained expression on his face. A short blade was stuck in the paladin’s abdomen, and blood was flowing down his armor. “It pierced through the gap in the armor…”
Normally, one should first remove the armor, pull out the blade, and then perform the treatment. But the process of removing the armor and pulling out the blade would cause the paladin great pain. Yisi took out the little bear divine staff from her inventory and, pretending to be chanting a spell, placed her hand on the paladin’s wound.
“[Sacred Nourishment].”
A golden mist of light flowed from Yisi’s fingers into the paladin’s wound. As if time had turned back, the pink granulation tissue on the wound squirmed rapidly. The short blade stuck in his abdomen also retreated on its own, bit by bit. Finally, with a clang, it fell to the ground.

The ghastly wound was restored as if new.
Standing up and handing the short blade that had fallen on the ground to the paladin, Yisi wiped her hands.
“Mm, it’s fine now.”
“This… may I ask who you are, miss?”
“My name is Yisi, a friend of Evelyn’s.”
Using Evelyn as a shield, Yisi poked her in the side with her elbow.
Even so, the paladin still looked hesitant.
“This healing magic, I’ve never seen it before… it’s just like the legendary holy art of His Holiness the Pope…”
“Captain, now is not the time to be talking about this.”
A paladin patted the captain’s shoulder. The captain quickly regained his composure, struck his chest heavily with his right fist, and gave Yisi a very formal knight’s salute.
“Thank you very much for your help, Your Excellency. We will not forget your kindness.”
“It was just a small matter. Go and thank Evelyn.”
“Lady Evelyn—”
Without letting the paladin finish, Evelyn’s tone was exceptionally serious.

“Where are you taking the Fallen next?”
“According to the regulations, a Fallen who has ambushed a member of the church shall be executed after three days of imprisonment.”
“Where will he be imprisoned?”
“The third underground level of the East District Temple.”
“Don’t take this Fallen to the East District for now. Hand him over to the people at the Central Temple, and have the paladins there take him to a side hall. I have something to ask this Fallen, in the name of the next Pope, Evelyn Anna Ymir Shalu.”
“Yes.”
Without saying more, the captain of the Inquisition Knights nodded. Although there was an interlude where the entire team cast grateful looks at Yisi, they still quickly departed from Yisi and Evelyn.
“What are you going to ask that Fallen, Evelyn?”
“Just some trivial matters. You don’t need to worry about it, Yisi.”
The words ‘don’t pry any further’ were written all over Evelyn’s face. Yisi didn’t ask tactlessly and changed the subject.
If it were now, she should be able to say it.
Pretending to be casual, Yisi followed Evelyn, who was walking ahead.
“…I’ve been wanting to say this for a while. Isn’t your view of the Fallen a bit too extreme, Evelyn? Just like not all humans are good people, not all Fallen are bad people.”
“Perhaps so. But I will not let go of the Fallen before my eyes.”

“Then if I or Mary were a Fallen, would you arrest us?”
“Tsk.” Evelyn frowned and clicked her tongue impatiently. “What are you trying to say? Are you deliberately asking a trick question to make things difficult for me?”
“No… it’s just a metaphor. If you kill a Fallen on sight, aren’t you the same kind of person as those evil Fallen? If you fight the Fallen for too long, you’ll become one yourself.”
“If I were a Fallen, I would die of shame for my filthy self.”
Evelyn’s eyes narrowed slightly, and she looked a little angry.
“Is that so…”
This topic ends here for today.
Yisi did not say another word and silently walked with Evelyn towards the slums.
—!!!
Suddenly, a sharp whistle came from not far away. The shrill and urgent sound made one’s hair stand on end.
Like a cat whose tail had been touched, Evelyn tensed up, stopped in her tracks, her expression exceptionally serious.
“What’s that sound?”
“It’s the church’s agreed-upon distress signal. They’ve encountered them! The paladins, and the monsters. Let’s go, quickly!”
