Volume 6, Chapter 64 – Ghostly Evil Annihilation (Part 1)
Turn a corner, run, turn another corner.
Stepping into the snow, avoiding obstacles, and weaving through countless alleys and residents who had come out to check on the commotion for who knows how long, the two of them finally arrived at the west side of the temple.
Before a dilapidated and huge crater.
As if it had been punched hard by a giant, or as if it had been hit by a meteorite, the part of the ground that had once belonged to the church was gone, leaving only a huge crater with a diameter of more than twenty meters. The crater was filled with a viscous, black fluid, which was churning in the bottom of the pool like boiling water. The pungent, sour smell and thick white smoke constantly assaulted the senses of smell and sight. Anyone who saw it would be terrified. They were afraid that if they were to be touched even a little, their hands would be corroded down to the bone.
It was comparable to a black dragon’s [Wither Breath].
While feeling a lingering fear from the horrifying scene that made one’s mouth water, Evelyn searched for her target in the dark night. Thanks to the light reflected from the snow, she soon found two humanoid creatures rummaging through something in the destroyed temple—they had not yet discovered her and Yisi.
“There.”
Because a corner of the west side of the temple had been eaten away by the black liquid, the inside of the temple was also exposed to their view. The brightly lit interior was empty, looking like a dead city at first glance.
Across the crater filled with black liquid, Evelyn raised the Staff of Divine Retribution towards the two monsters. But the golden light that emanated from the staff quickly disappeared. Evelyn clicked her tongue.
“The distance is too great. I can’t see their levels.”
“I’ll take the one on the right. You take the one on the left.”
“Hey, the one on the right is obviously stronger.”

Its body was a circle larger than before, to the point where it was as tall as a normal adult, no, even taller than a normal adult.
“We agreed before, didn’t we? I’ll hold off the stronger one, and you can come and help me after you’ve eliminated the weaker one.”
If these two monsters were still at the level of the afternoon, she would have followed Yisi’s plan. But the aura of the two monsters had clearly become much stronger. Just by looking at them with her naked eyes, Evelyn could be sure that if she went up without drinking the magic medicine, she would be killed in one blow. Even from a great distance, she could feel a solidified, suffocating pressure from the two monsters.
“No, one-on-one is too dangerous.”
“…Alright,” for some reason, Evelyn found that she couldn’t capture any expression of anxiety or tension on Yisi’s face, as if the upcoming battle was just a child’s game. “but we have to lure them out first. In case we’re no match for them, it’ll be convenient for the paladins who are rushing over from a distance to support us.”
“Mm.”
After Evelyn’s words fell, Yisi took out two diamond-shaped short blades from her pocket. This was also a point of confusion for Evelyn. Yisi had not made a sound when she was running, yet she could always take out a seemingly unlimited number of short blades from her pocket. Normally, putting metal in a pocket should make a clanging sound.
The sharp blades, reflecting a metallic luster, disappeared into the darkness under the cover of the night. When they reappeared, they had already been inserted into the backs of the two monsters.
If they could have flown a little more accurately and cut their throats directly, it would have been even better.
An unrealistic fantasy arose in Evelyn’s heart. At a distance of twenty meters, just being able to make a light and thin short blade fly that far was already amazing, not to mention that Yisi had accurately hit the target. There was probably no such talent in the entire Ymir Church.
Andrea really had a good eye.

“Ggghh.”
With the short blades hitting their mark, two pained cries were heard. The monsters, who had been devouring the magic cores, stopped their actions. Their necks turned at an angle that exceeded the limits of a living creature. Their twisted eyes spewed hatred, and their mouths split to the sides, looking as if they were about to devour someone.
“They’re coming.”
Evelyn warned in a low voice.
Gaaaaaah!!!
As if they remembered that Evelyn and Yisi had harmed their companions, or perhaps they wanted to return the pain they were currently suffering to the two of them, the two monsters landed on all fours like felines and, completely ignoring the crater filled with corrosive liquid in front of them, rushed towards Yisi and Evelyn with all their might.
And taking this opportunity, Evelyn uncorked the magic medicine and poured the colorless, transparent liquid into her mouth.
The effect of the magic medicine only lasted for five minutes. There would be no chance to drink it again during the battle, so it had to be resolved within five minutes.
To make space for the upcoming battle, Evelyn and Yisi both moved away from the crater filled with black liquid. To the monsters, this black liquid was not corrosive. Even if they were soaked in it, they would not be affected at all.
At the same time, the three hunters from before also rushed to Evelyn’s side. For the sake of convenience, the three of them only wore light black leather armor, as if they were one with the darkness.
“Lady Evelyn, are these the monsters you mentioned?”
“Mm.”

Evelyn nodded.
The man who spoke had a slightly deeper voice.
“The aura they’re giving off is very strong… like a mad phantom beast.”
“Please support us with magic from the rear, Lady Evelyn. We need to buy time for the other hunters!”
Even the hunters could only buy time and wait for reinforcements?
As if she had missed a step while going down the stairs, Evelyn’s heart skipped a beat. And just as she raised her staff and began to chant a spell, the three hunters, in order to seize the initiative, attacked first while the monsters were just climbing out of the crater.
“Hah!”
A powerful yet unavoidable swing.
As long as it hit the monster, even if their skin was exceptionally tough, they would at least have an arm cut off.
In fact, the longswords of the three hunters did indeed hit the monsters. One hit the head, and the other two hit the shoulders. As Evelyn had expected, they had cut off both arms of one of the monsters.
But before everyone could catch their breath, from the stumps of the monster’s limbs, a black liquid, as if it had come to life, quickly squirmed, making a nauseating sound, and quickly formed new arms and a head. Then, while the three hunters were still recovering their strength, countless tentacles made of black mucus shot out from behind them, wrapping around the hunters’ entire bodies.

The sizzling sound of skin being scorched instantly rang out, and thick white mist rose from the hunters’ bodies. The hunters could only let out painful cries while struggling to cut the tentacles with their swords. But these tentacles, made of black mucus, had both the effect of absorbing magic power and the hardness of steel. The hunters were simply unable to break free from the monster’s restraint with their own abilities.
“□□□—[Sunlight Spear].”
A golden long spear condensed from magic power instantly took shape, then shot straight at the monster under Evelyn’s command. The two monsters that had spotted the long spear immediately formed a wall of black mucus, trying to block it. But like ice meeting red-hot steel, the wall of black mucus rapidly dissolved, and the [Sunlight Spear] pierced through the chest of one of the monsters.
Immediately after, Yisi, who had concealed her presence and quietly moved to the side of the monster, also thrust out Gungnir, piercing through the other monster’s head.
“Guh… gah…”
A low roar, almost indistinguishable from a beast’s.
Just like before, even with a fatal wound, the monster would not die.
The monster, which was gradually tightening its tentacles, intending to strangle the three hunters, shifted its attention to Evelyn and Yisi. As if throwing away an inconspicuous sandbag, it threw the three hunters, who were entangled in its tentacles, to the side, and they slammed heavily against the distant wall.
After one hit, Yisi retreated to Evelyn’s side.
The black liquid squirmed again, quickly repairing the wounds on the monster’s body.
“Don’t give them time to breathe!”
