Volume 6, Chapter 65 – Demonic Evil Annihilation (Part 2)

Shouting at the same time, Evelyn simultaneously released two [Sunlight Spears], while Yisi coated the surface of Gungnir with flames. Each of them was responsible for one monster.

But the monsters would not just stand there and be hit.

Having learned from the last time, this time the monster dodged the thrown [Sunlight Spears] with a speed that was impossible to capture with the naked eye. And when it reappeared, it was already at Evelyn’s side.

A sweeping kick aimed at Evelyn’s legs.

If this blow were to hit, her legs would surely be broken.

She had just used [Sunlight Spear], and she didn’t even have time to chant the shortest defensive spell, [Mana Shield].

It wasn’t that she was too weak, but that the opponent’s strength exceeded her expectations. If Yisi and she hadn’t interfered, those three hunters would already be three corpses. In other words, these two monsters had the strength to kill a level-thirty hunter in one blow. Although she had drunk a magic medicine that could raise her strength by two tiers, it only enhanced her magical ability. Her reaction and physical abilities were still in their original state.

The air was filled with a foul, bestial stench, and an immense pressure that was almost suffocating assaulted Evelyn’s chest.

And then—

“[Guaranteed Hit]!”

Boom!

With a whine that seemed to be about to pierce the air, Gungnir, burning with flames, slammed heavily onto the ground with the speed of an arrow. Bricks and rubble scattered, and the flames from the spear’s shaft also shot up.

Pushed back a step by the blast, Evelyn quickly steadied herself.

Yisi had saved her.

I’m grateful.

Without time to say thanks, Evelyn unhesitatingly pointed the Staff of Divine Retribution at the ground.

The difference in combat power is obvious. Not to mention, a magic caster like me is not suited to deal with a monster that excels in speed.

Chanting quickly in a fierce and high-pitched tone, when the golden magic light rising from the ground had enveloped her, Evelyn glanced at Yisi, who was fighting the monster bare-handed. Although Yisi had no weapon in her hands, she was able to gain the upper hand in the fight. Every punch could shatter the monster’s head. It was less like Yisi was taking the initiative to attack, and more like the monster was sending its head to Yisi’s fist.

To be able to spare a hand to support me while facing such a monster.

What terrifying strength.

I can’t drag her down.

Her attention was completely focused on the seven runes surrounding her. The seven runes of different colors and symbols each represented one of the original sins, and behind the original sins were the symbols of the six major elements and mental magic. After a quick scan, Evelyn finally chose the element she was good at.

Pride, and also the representative of Light.

No one knew why the original sins were connected to the elements, but for Evelyn, as long as they could help her, it was enough.

Clang!

A dull sound like a hammer hitting a bronze bell.

The monster’s attack came from behind again, but compared to before, she now had sufficient defensive capabilities. The golden magic light that surrounded her in a one-meter diameter was not just for show. Although the light element was not as offensive as the dark element, its strength lay in being both offensive and defensive, and it had a natural restraint against evil creatures.

Evelyn turned her head. The monster’s kick just now had hit the magic circle. The leg that had come into contact with the dense light element was emitting wisps of white smoke, and the repairing effect of the black mucus had also become extremely slow.

Involuntarily, the corners of Evelyn’s mouth curved up, and her deep green eyes were once again filled with cunning.

“You’ve already lost. In the name of the Goddess Ymir, I shall act as her angel—”

She began to chant as if no one else were around. Sensing the frantic surge of the surrounding elements, the monster facing her went berserk, desperately attacking the golden magic circle surrounding her. But each of its attacks only brought a searing pain to its body. After several fruitless attacks, the monster gave up and lay on all four limbs on the ground, letting out a low and continuous roar.

Immediately after, as if competing with the golden light condensing on Evelyn’s body, a layer of ink-black fluid appeared on the monster’s body. The fluid gradually expanded with the monster as its center. Anything that came into contact with the black mucus, whether it was stone or earth, would turn to nothing with a sizzling sound. But what was different from the pitch-black, bowl-shaped object that had devoured the temple that Evelyn had seen at the beginning was that this layer of mucus quickly retracted after expanding to less than two meters, covering the monster’s body like armor.

At the same time, Evelyn closed her eyes and released the Staff of Divine Retribution. But the staff did not fall to the ground. Instead, as if an invisible force were controlling it, the staff floated on its own in front of her. Evelyn then crossed her arms and chanted slowly and firmly, in a posture like a prayer ritual.

As if a switch had been flipped, an unusually large amount of magic power quickly gathered on the divine staff, even exceeding Evelyn’s own total magic power. Layer after layer of golden magic circles with profound runes unfolded at the front of the divine staff. Countless chain-like magic power enveloped Evelyn. A dazzling light gradually lit up. Evelyn’s feet left the ground, and her silver pigtails and white-gold priestess’s robes moved without any wind. Under a series of obscure and rapid chants, the golden light that filled the open space became more and more intense, almost making one feel that a goddess had descended.

Then, like a wound-up machine, the magic circles gathered at the front of the Staff of Divine Retribution began to rotate in different directions, and gradually accelerated. The surging magic power, which was about to burst out at any moment, made one’s whole body feel much heavier. In just a few seconds, the center of the rapidly rotating, three-layered golden magic circles gradually aligned on the same straight line.

The air began to have a burnt smell. The surroundings were distorted by the high temperature, and the snow on the ground was rolling as if it were boiling. The sacred light that seemed to be able to pierce the sky finally took shape. A huge knight’s spear condensed from gold floated above Evelyn’s head. Anyone who looked to the west could glimpse this huge weapon that illuminated the sky like the sun.

Opposite the chanting Evelyn, the monster covered in black mucus simply approached quickly. But unlike its previous constant attacks, this time the monster slowly and firmly reached its hand into the magic circle protecting Evelyn. Like water meeting fire, the monster’s arm immediately emitted wisps of burnt smoke. But the black mucus protected the monster from retracting its hand. As if resisting an extremely huge force, the monster’s hand moved very slowly. But since Evelyn’s chanting showed no sign of ending, the two sides formed a delicate race against time.

As if time had lost its meaning, when the scene changed again, the monster’s hand was already on Evelyn’s neck. With a force sufficient to break a neck, the monster struggled to pour strength into its right hand—its arm had been completely corroded by the light, and the part of its body that had entered the magic circle had been scorched to the point where it could almost no longer recover.

And thanks to the monster, Evelyn, whose neck was stuck, almost broke her chant. However, the spell was already at its final moment. To break it here was equivalent to suicide. Ignoring the tightening throat, Evelyn continued to chant in an impassioned tone.

“Under the gaze of our holy spirits, gather the brilliance of the sun here, exercise the holy judgment of Ymir’s heart, and here I shall pass judgment upon the blasphemer—『 Demonic Evil Annihilation 』!”

When the last difficult incantation came to an end, in an instant, as if the sun had fallen to the earth, a strong light that burned the eyes and was enough to take away one’s vision illuminated the sky. A huge pillar of light, comparable to the Tower of Ymir, connected heaven and earth. Layer after layer of magic circles revolved around the pillar of light. All obstacles on the ground were flattened by the impact. The monster was vaporized in the blink of an eye. Even the black mucus was instantly purified. The blazing light burned all impure things to ashes.

The divine punishment, passed down from the age of the gods and used only by the Goddess, had descended again.
