Volume 6, Chapter 73 – Realization (Part 1)
Yisi’s disjointed statement made Evelyn tilt her head, her identical silver pigtails swaying to one side.
“Although I have a premonition of what you’re about to say, why say it here?”
“No… what I’m about to say is definitely not what you’re thinking,” as if in a difficult position, Yisi twirled a lock of her silver hair around her index finger, her gaze wandering in the air, “I’m talking about the person who suddenly broke into the temple’s underground a few months ago and unreasonably snatched your important necklace, Evelyn.”
“And? I remember I already answered. If I find that person, I will definitely beat them up.”
She had indeed said that, but it seemed like a joke, without the slightest threat.
Was Evelyn really angry?
Such a thought couldn’t help but arise in Yisi’s mind.
She must be angry, but because she couldn’t find a target to vent on, she said it in a feignedly relaxed tone.
The bitterness on her face deepened. Yisi pulled her silver hair tightly with her index finger.
“Actually—”
“If you’re going to say you’ll help me find the culprit, you’d better take that thought back.”
Before Yisi could speak, Evelyn waved her hand as if she didn’t care. Yisi hurriedly added.
“I’m the one who stole your necklace.”
“Mm, I know.”

She didn’t believe her at all.
Come to think of it, it made sense. This feeling was like a good friend suddenly saying to you, “I’m actually the son of the richest man in the world.” It would surely be taken as a joke by everyone, and a rather cold one at that.
Yisi could only explain.
“I know Andrea because I also stole her necklace. In order to compensate her, I went to the Blood Clan’s royal capital. The Blood Clan alchemist you met before is actually my frien— is the one with whom I have promised my future. At that time, because my soul was residing in her body, her soul became unstable. In order to save both of us, I learned about the necklaces from a Fallen Angel. As long as I got Andrea’s and your necklaces together, I could create a new body, so I stole the necklaces from you and Andrea.”
Neither exaggerating nor using a tone that would arouse sympathy, Yisi recounted the story in a serious and flat tone. To make Evelyn believe her, she even switched to her [Third Form Awakening] appearance in front of her. When she had stolen the necklace, Yisi had only switched her form and had not worn a mask or a cloak.
Although it would be the same to explain it to Evelyn in the future, that was too cunning.
No, the fact that she hadn’t told Evelyn in the first place, but had waited until now to say it, was already a great violation of the rules. Perhaps her subconscious had wanted to hide this matter forever. All the previous reasons for observing Evelyn were just self-hypnosis.
Her gaze lowered slightly, and at the same time, because of the sunlight shining on her eyes through the clouds, Yisi could not look directly at Evelyn.
She already knew the result.
Now that their relationship was very good, and she had even helped Evelyn ascend to the position of Pope, Evelyn would no longer blame her for the necklace. It was precisely because she was clear on this point that Yisi did not dare to raise her eyes. If Evelyn were angry, she would actually feel better.
As Yisi had expected, Evelyn just frowned and pouted.
“So you were the culprit, Yisi. As I thought, I knew it was you.”
Suddenly looking up, a look of astonishment flashed in Yisi’s blue eyes.
“Why?”
Evelyn tapped her own head with her knuckles, her slightly mature face full of triumph.

“Don’t underestimate a woman’s intuition. Although I didn’t guess that the perpetrator was you from the beginning, I had already come to the answer at least a few days ago. If I had to say, the suspicious points were your inexplicable initiative to get close to me, and your always-hidden strength. Although you’ve never said your level, one can tell from the small details that you are at least at Julius’s level. You’re a monster.”
“Mmm…”
She didn’t know what to say. Whether it was Andrea or Evelyn, why could they both guess the answer before she had admitted it herself.
It was just too unfair.
Feeling a tightness in her throat, Yisi sighed with a feigned ease.
“You guessed it long ago, Evelyn?”
With an arrogant expression, Evelyn closed her eyes, her arms crossed over her chest.
“Mm… I can’t say I guessed it. The upper echelon of the church has received a divine baptism and will have a specific impression of people they have met before. I can’t say what kind of feeling that is. It can probably be explained as telepathy. From the first moment I saw you, I had the impression that we had met before. Then one day, when I had nothing to do, I suddenly felt that something was wrong.”
“In addition, you had asked me what I would do if I found that culprit—normally, one would ask ‘are there any clues about that culprit’, not what to do after finding her, right? Only the person involved would say that, so I vaguely felt that it was you. I was originally thinking about whether to use your guilt to do a few more things, but I didn’t expect you to admit it so early. Honestly, do you know how much thought this will save me?”
While speaking in a light tone, Evelyn secretly opened one eye to observe Yisi.
If it weren’t for this extra action, she would have surely thought that Evelyn’s words just now were serious. But the reason she had said it was just to make her feel better, to resolve her guilt with a joke, even if it was a loss for Evelyn herself.
If they got along well, she was also a woman who was very considerate of others’ feelings. Compared to her usual nastiness, her current gentleness was very charming. Even she couldn’t help but feel something stuck in her chest. Although it made it difficult to breathe, it made one want to indulge in it.
After adjusting her breathing for a short while, Yisi stood up from her kneeling position with a wry smile and shrugged at Evelyn.
“Aren’t you going to ask me to do something? As long as it’s a compensation within my ability, I can do it. Maybe even something like repairing the Tower of Ymir is not a problem.”

“I told you before what I would do if I found the culprit.”
“Uh.”
A look of helplessness flashed across her face, but at the same time, there was also a feeling that it was finally over. Yisi hesitated for a moment, took a few steps back, and opened her arms to Evelyn, in a posture of letting her do as she pleased.
Evelyn, on the other hand, unceremoniously got up from the grass, patted the grass clippings off her body, and then took several steps back to face Yisi. Like a local ruffian about to teach someone a lesson, she rolled her shoulders and shouted at Yisi with a malicious look.
“I won’t be polite.”
“Yes, yes, bring it on.”
She actually hoped that Evelyn would give her a good beating. That way, the guilt in her heart would be much less, or even disappear.
Yisi closed her eyes.
The sound of hurried footsteps came from her ear.
Just as Evelyn had said, she was not being polite. If it were Andrea, she would surely be stroking her head and saying “it’s okay” by now. It wasn’t that Evelyn was not good, but it was precisely this difference that made her charming.
Evelyn, who was in mid-sprint, poured all the strength of her body into her raised right fist. Then, in a cry as if she were mustering up her courage, without any hesitation, as if she were going to vent all her accumulated anger on Yisi, with the speed boost from her sprint, her right fist slammed into Yisi’s chest.
Yisi’s body did not waver in the slightest. She didn’t even feel any pain, just a light tap on her chest.
That was Evelyn’s fist.
The reason she didn’t feel any pain was not because Yisi’s defense was too strong, but because Evelyn hadn’t used any force at all.

Unlike the imposing attack on the surface, Evelyn had stopped at the last moment and had lightly punched Yisi with a playful force.
Very helplessly, Yisi opened her eyes.
“Hey, hey… this doesn’t count as a good beating.”
It wasn’t that she had an interest in being beaten, but with such a light retribution, she didn’t have the real feeling of having paid her dues.
Her long, narrow deep-green eyes were filled with only the look of a successful prank. Evelyn curved the corners of her mouth slyly and shook her fist at Yisi.
“A beating doesn’t necessarily mean giving physical pain. If that punch had really hit you just now, I would surely have regretted it in the future.”
“Regretted?”
“Of course. Don’t you have the real feeling of having paid me back yet? It would be too merciful to let you off just like that. So I have to make good use of this opportunity and have you owe me a favor.”
So that was what it was about. Very much in Evelyn’s style.
Although she hadn’t done anything for Evelyn, Yisi now felt as if all her worries had vanished. It was as if a heavy burden had finally been lifted from her shoulders, or like an office worker who had finished all their work. Her whole body had an indescribable sense of relief.
Did Evelyn calculate this, or was it just a coincidence?
In any case, Yisi knew that she owed an incredible favor.
She shook her head.
It was better not to think about these things. Now that she had finally relaxed, she shouldn’t worry about how Evelyn would make her repay the favor. That would be looking for trouble.
