Volume 7, Chapter 33 – Laxy’s Anomaly
With a flash of brilliant white light, a sound like water about to boil echoed around them.
Gurgle, gurgle.
The stench of burnt animal hide filled the air. Even Laxy, the one who had caused it, was bewildered by the current situation.
[Sacred Fire] was not an offensive spell, but a supportive one that ignited one’s magic power to raise their abilities to an extremely high level. Due to the special nature of God-Forged puppets, [Sacred Fire] would not put an excessive burden on their bodies. A normal human could only maintain it for about one to three minutes before either their body collapsed from the strain or they were forced to stop due to magic power depletion. But angels, because of their sturdy bodies and the fact that their magic power was supplied entirely by a power source, could use it indefinitely as long as the source was not depleted.
However, the magic now being displayed was clearly not [Sacred Fire], but something else, something unknown.
Only Yisi and Camilla in the entire world knew the truth.
When Yisi had first come to this world, she had given Camilla a magic item that surpassed her level. The result was a rather catastrophic explosion. The prelude to that event was exactly the same as what was happening now. In other words, the rapier had judged that Laxy’s level was insufficient to use it, which was why this was happening.
“Tsk.”
Yisi clicked her tongue.

Since she had experienced it once, she would not let it happen a second time.
While Laxy was stunned by the situation, Yisi forcibly snatched the weapon she held high. Then, she replaced Laxy’s magic power with her own. In less than two seconds, the gurgling sound gradually disappeared, and everything returned to calm.
Yisi re-confirmed Laxy’s level and the rapier she had given her.
Laxy’s level was indeed 41, and the rapier she had given her was usable by those of level 40 and above. Unless Laxy was using a holy relic like Evelyn’s Staff of Divine Retribution to hide her true strength, a situation like this should not have occurred.
No, there will be opportunities to test it later. Since Laxy can make choices that go against her values for the sake of an order, there’s absolutely no reason for her to deceive me now.
Perhaps Laxy has undergone some change that even she is unaware of. The appearance of the Kingdom of God was long before the war between the Blood Clan and humans, which means that Laxy was sealed in the ice coffin for over 1,300 years. Even for a material containing magic power, 1,300 years is enough time for it to decay. To be precise, the fact that it’s functioning properly at all should be hailed as a miracle.
“My lord, what are you doing?”
Because her weapon had been snatched away, a hint of displeasure appeared in Laxy’s purple eyes. To have just declared that she would purify the enemy, only to have her weapon taken by one of her own, would be hard for anyone to accept.
Yisi, who was well aware of this, took out a normal iron sword without a magic circuit. Besides the Laevateinn she was about to give to Camilla, this was the only sword in her inventory that Laxy could use.

“Sorry, Laxy. Could you please switch to this weapon? The other one needs to be tuned.”
“…There is no need, my lord. As angels, we have our own treasury.”
Drawing the golden cross-guard sword she had prepared as a reward from her inventory, Laxy spread her white wings and flew straight towards the church members in their uniform black coats.
She’s angry.
That’s only natural. The only person in the world who wouldn’t get angry after having their weapon snatched away is probably Andrea, who is not good at fighting for herself.
“I’ll explain to Laxy later—wait, does a God-Forged Angel’s magic power deplete this quickly?”
With Laxy’s level 41 strength, facing twenty people between levels 20 and 30, even if she couldn’t win outright, she should at least be able to fight them with ease. With her much faster magic power recovery, she could have worn them down one by one. But now, Laxy’s 382 magic points were rapidly disappearing, with a single spell consuming twenty percent of her total.
For comparison, take Camilla. She was now level 14 and had nearly a hundred magic points. Unless she used a second-tier spell above her level, it was impossible for a single instant-cast spell to drain twenty percent of her magic power.
Noticing this problem as well, Laxy’s inner turmoil caused her body to lose balance. If it weren’t for her excellent combat skills, she would have been struck in the chest by the Divine Religion’s people just now.

“But it feels like the Divine Religion’s people aren’t fighting seriously… Are they holding back? Or do they not want to kill Laxy? Well, I’ll just capture them all and question them one by one to find out.”
Due to her rapid magic power consumption, even though the Divine Religion’s people didn’t use any large-scale magic, Laxy was soon on the defensive under the siege of twenty people.
If I don’t go and help, the angel I traded a magic weapon for is going to be captured.
We’re still in front of the adventurers. I should probably refrain from using a convenient yet shocking spell like [Blink] for now.
Taking out Gungnir, Yisi easily leaped between Laxy and the cult members. The fatigue from the battle made Laxy pant slightly, and a fine layer of sweat appeared on her forehead.
Do angels sweat?
I’ll save that question for my leisure time.
“Who?” a cult member of level 35 asked in a low voice. Since his face was covered by a hood, Yisi couldn’t see his features. But he seemed to have sensed her strength and chose to negotiate verbally first. “Whoever you are, our only target is the angel. Hand over the angel behind you, or don’t blame us for being impolite.”
“Oh my, it’s been a long time since someone has spoken to me in that tone,” the man’s words made Yisi tilt her head. “The last time I was formally threatened was when I had just met Pepe. But you are neither as cute as Pepe nor do you have her personal charm. Laxy is my companion, not an object. Your designs on her are tantamount to a provocation against me. So, it is I who should be saying—give up your resistance. You are surrounded.”

At first, the man looked around at Yisi’s word ‘surrounded’. But when he found no one else nearby, he became angry at his own momentary panic.
“Ridiculous! I’ll make you regret this!”
“My lord, they are strong. Please allow me to cover your retreat.”
“I already said, I’m much stronger than Pepe. Laxy, just stand behind me.”
Pulling Laxy, who was about to step forward, behind her, Yisi waved Gungnir. The next moment, a rainbow-colored magic light shone from her entire body. This was the unique glow of having many buff effects active at once.
“That’s… damn it, no wonder even the Eye of God couldn’t see this person’s strength. Quick, retreat!”
“I won’t let you run away, you know?”
As soon as the voice reached the lead man’s ears, Yisi was already in front of him. She struck his calf with Gungnir. The heavy blow made the man lose his balance and fall to the ground with a thud.
“Gah!”
