Volume 7, Chapter 42 – Replacement (Part 1)

Laxy’s expression became complicated, and she seemed to hesitate as she chose her words.

“My lord, although your plan may be correct in principle, I do not believe that replacing the core will solve the problem. The Type 10042 core you are holding has likely reached the end of its service life and was discarded and replaced by Type 10042 herself.”

“Is that so?”

It seemed that the core wasn’t something an angel used for their entire life, as she had initially thought.

To reassure Laxy, Yisi lightly patted the white poppy bow tie on her chest.

“Don’t worry. Replacing the core is just to find the problem. For example, after we install the 10042 core into you, if your condition improves or worsens, it will prove that the problem is indeed with the core. Then we can find the right solution.”

Laxy, her hands clasped in front of her waist, had a flicker of light in her purple eyes, but it quickly dimmed. However, she did not voice her concerns. Instead, she silently agreed to Yisi’s proposal and followed her to an empty warehouse within the church. This was the same place where Yisi had made the stone golem.

To avoid another embarrassing encounter with Pepe, Yisi specifically checked that the door was properly locked before confidently walking to the center of the room. She lit a magic lamp and then, just as she had when making the stone golem, took the foundry platform out of her inventory.

With a soft thud, the heavy and massive foundry platform was placed on the ground by Yisi.

Laxy raised an eyebrow in surprise.

“This workbench… my lord, may I try to lift it?”

“Go ahead. This thing is very sturdy; it won’t break even if you drop it.”

“Yes.”

Bending down, Laxy placed her hands on a corner of the foundry platform. Then, pouring strength into her arms and legs, she abruptly lifted it. After testing its weight, she slowly set it back down and let out a long breath.

“…It’s at least a thousand kilograms. It is not unusual for me, a God-Forged Angel, to be able to lift it. But my lord… how did you lift it? I did not feel any magic fluctuations just now. You did not use reinforcement magic.”

“I told you I was strong.”

Clearly not believing Yisi, Laxy looked her up and down with a skeptical gaze. Finally, her eyes locked onto the hair ties holding Yisi’s twin-tails and the white poppy bow tie on her chest. She muttered in a voice only she could hear.

“Reinforcement from magic items, I see.”

“Now then, let’s first try to see if we can install the 10042 core into you, Laxy. If there’s no problem with the 10042 core, then we won’t need to do anything else.”

As she spoke, Yisi took out the 10042 core and a wooden chair from her inventory. The 10042’s magic crystal was green and about the size of her fist. Due to its exceptionally fine craftsmanship, it was almost a perfect sphere. Even if it were classified as a decorative item, it would definitely be a high-priced one.

“In terms of power source specifications, Type 10042 is not much different from me. According to my memory, it can be used directly. However…” Laxy glanced at the core in Yisi’s hand. “However, the power core in your hand has very little magic power left. In the Kingdom of God, it would be disposed of by the First-Rank Angels as a depleted power source.”

“Well, well, I’m just trying to find the problem. By the way, where is your power source, Laxy?”

Although she was a puppet, Laxy had no doll-like ball joints. Yisi could only examine her neck and shoulders. Conventionally, the power source should be located at the nape of the neck or on the back.

If it were a normal girl, she might have been disgusted by Yisi’s impolite scrutiny. But Laxy had no such thoughts. On the contrary, she reached her hands behind her back and untied the ribbons at her neck and waist.

With a rustling sound, to Yisi’s blinking, uncomprehending gaze, Laxy easily slipped out of her complex attire, revealing the perfect body hidden beneath.

Although one could tell Laxy had a rather fine figure even with her clothes on, compared to her current appearance, it was like comparing a firefly to the bright moon. Her gem-like blue hair cascaded down her smooth back, followed by the perfect, slender, and soft curves from her chest to her waist and then to her hips. If her back were adorned with a few drops of water, it would not be an exaggeration to call it a work of art.

Even though she was a doll, her skin was not a bloodless, pale white. Under the light of the ceiling lamp, through her lustrous skin, one could even glimpse the faint, human-like blue veins hidden beneath. If she hadn’t known beforehand, Yisi would never have associated the faint blue patterns under the skin with magic circuits. Her body was so well-proportioned it could be called a work of nature. It was so human-like that it felt inhuman. Only something sculpted could be as exquisitely flawless as the body before her, slender where it should be slender, and rounded where it should be rounded. If one were to judge by body proportions alone, Yisi was ninety percent certain that no young woman in the world could compare to Laxy; even Refina was inferior.

Even someone like Yisi, who had no artistic sense, was stunned for a moment by the angel before her. She was so beautiful that Yisi didn’t even realize that staring at a woman’s body was a rude thing to do, as if she were looking at a work of art, not a person.

It was not until Laxy prompted her that Yisi came back to her senses.

“My lord, is there something strange about my body?”

“Ah, no, nothing. I was just thinking that you truly are a God-Forged Angel, Laxy. Even the best craftsman in the world could not sculpt such a beautiful body—not even by copying a painting.”

As she spoke, Yisi politely averted her gaze from Laxy. Although it was very subtle, Yisi noticed that Laxy did possess something like a sense of shame. While she had been staring, there was a hint of shyness in Laxy’s expression, and her arms had covered the important parts of her body.

How careless of me.

After hearing Laxy’s complaints about the First and Second-Rank Angels, I had thought she was a person with a weak sense of shame.

If I were a man, Laxy would not have taken off her clothes so directly. Yisi had this premonition. Perhaps she should wait until tomorrow morning, after Mary or Refina had woken up, and let them help inspect Laxy.

The more serious and proper a type like Laxy was, the more conservative they would be, and the stronger their sense of shame. Perhaps Laxy hadn’t wanted to take off her clothes at all, but just couldn’t refuse because her reasons were justified, and she was her master.

“Thank you for your praise… After the core is removed, I will fall into a deep sleep. At that time, I will not be able to sense any changes in the outside world, nor will I be able to respond to your commands. So if there is any problem, please put my core back immediately.”

“Ah, of course. But where is your core, Laxy?”

“Here.”

Clasping her hands in a prayer-like motion, Laxy closed her eyes. After waiting for about a minute, a deep blue magic light emerged from her chest. When the light grew so dazzling that she had to close her eyes, a diamond-shaped crystal, only the size of a thumb, appeared in the center of Laxy’s chest.

Unlike the Type 10042 power core in Yisi’s hand, the crystal in Laxy’s chest was blue.

Yisi looked puzzled.

“A diamond shape? And the size is so different. Can this be replaced?”

According to Laxy, the core of a Trino Type 10043 and a Type 10042 were nearly identical and could be directly interchanged. But the current one, no matter how you looked at it, was vastly different.

Without answering Yisi, Laxy remained in her prayer-like posture with her eyes closed.

She probably can’t interrupt the prayer while taking out the core.

Just as Yisi had guessed, after waiting for about another minute, a spherical projection, somewhere between green and blue, slowly materialized on Laxy’s chest. As the projection became clearer, Laxy’s entire aura grew weaker. The moment the sphere was fully formed, Laxy, like a machine that had been unplugged, suddenly went limp and collapsed. The blue light in her chest vanished in an instant.
