Volume 1, Chapter 51 – Owen’s Discovery
Owen paced anxiously around his room.
There was only one reason for this.
The eldest daughter of House Pescia had been possessed by a demon!
At first, he hadn’t believed such claims. True, he had heard whispers from the servants—after the hostage escaped and returned, her personality had undergone a drastic change. Not only did she stop abusing slaves, but she even granted them normal lives. Beyond that, she had used holy magic to save the wife of a paladin.
How could a vampire possibly wield holy magic?
It was absurd. Vampires were inherently averse to light. Over thousands of years, only a handful of vampires had ever been able to harness the light element, and all of them belonged to the Alvian family—the rulers of the vampire race who inherited the title of Vampire King. Yet even they could only cast the most basic first-tier light magic. Higher-tier holy magic was utterly beyond their reach.

Holy magic was a domain reserved only for saints—those with devout faith in the gods and pure hearts. Moreover, even if a saint mastered holy magic, the moment her heart became tainted, she would lose the ability to wield it.
And now, the one using holy magic wasn’t even human—she was an extremely cruel vampire. It was a joke. If anything, a vampire mastering the diametrically opposed abyssal magic would make more sense.
In the past, Owen would have dismissed it outright. But the more reports he received about the Pescia heiress, the more horrified he became. Let’s list the things this vampire had done so far—
First, she used overwhelming social skills to persuade most of the Church faction. She possessed magic powerful enough to annihilate a town in an instant. Then, she suddenly vanished from the mansion, reducing the entire Niru Forest to ashes. After that, increasingly bizarre incidents kept occurring.
She bribed local merchants, paladins of the Church, and even pure-hearted nuns. According to some rumors Owen had gathered, some nuns had gone so far as to offer their blood to the vampire. What kind of sweet talk could deceive such innocent nuns? No—at this point, it was more plausible that the vampire had used mind-control magic.
Thinking of the nuns diligently working for the Church, Owen shook his head. They probably still didn’t realize they had been fed on by a vampire. If it was mind control, he couldn’t blame them—nor could he reveal the truth to them, lest they suffer a mental breakdown.

But that wasn’t all. The count’s eldest daughter frequently disappeared from the mansion. The paladins claimed it was due to teleportation magic—yet teleportation was a high-tier, third-order spell, and even then, it could only cover a distance of less than a hundred meters.
To prevent the vampire from escaping, the Church dispatched three additional squads of paladins to guard the mansion in shifts—nearly half of Niru City’s stationed forces. Moreover, they secretly set up barriers around the mansion to block teleportation magic. Not even a mouse could slip past the paladins’ watch. And yet, the vampire still managed to slip out. Recently, there had even been numerous sightings of her visiting brothels.
Sometimes, Owen wondered if the vampire had dug an underground tunnel. But the mansion’s servants insisted they hadn’t seen any excess dirt or rubble in the courtyard, ruling out that possibility.
Of course, these issues weren’t the main problem. After all, this headache-inducing vampire was finally leaving today (finally!). The reason Owen was pacing restlessly was because of what he had witnessed yesterday.
He had seen it with his own eyes—the eldest daughter of House Pescia transforming from a vampire into a human.
Her white hair turned into silver streaked with an eerie blue, and her wings vanished in a burst of white light. Owen had even covertly used detection magic, which confirmed that the count’s daughter had indeed become human. Had he not been trained to remain composed, he would have screamed on the spot.

By the goddess Ymir, what in the world was happening?!
Aside from Ymir herself—as recorded in the sacred texts—and demonic possession, no one could alter both their appearance and race like this.
And this vampire was certainly not the goddess Ymir. That left only one possibility: demonic possession.
With this conclusion, all of Owen’s previous confusions—including her sudden personality shift—suddenly made sense.
Disaster-tier forbidden spells, summoning meteors of unknown origin, vanishing from the mansion at will, and using mind magic to bewitch nuns.
Well, setting aside the mind control of nuns, this demon didn’t seem as destructive as one might expect. Not that Owen wasn’t terrified of her overwhelming magic—but rather, the demon appeared to possess a sense of humanity.

She used precious magical medicine to save a merchant’s daughter, restored the lives of blood slaves doomed to die, and helped paladins resolve their troubles and doubts. Though her words remained haughty, her actions were the complete opposite. If she were human, Owen might even consider her a kind person.
Moreover, based on her current behavior, the count’s eldest daughter—no, the demon—might genuinely enjoy living in the human world.
This gave Owen another idea: to persuade and assist this demon, letting her borrow his identity to bring lasting peace to the Niru Diocese and the Pescia territory.
With this thought, Owen stopped pacing and waved to a guard nearby.
“Prepare the carriage. It’s time to escort the hostage.”
