Volume 1, Chapter 56 – A Battle Without Suspense

This was Yisi’s first real battle since arriving in this world. Before this, she had only experimented with simple skills in her room. Although she had extensive PvP experience in Ragnarøk, the gap between reality and the game was enormous—adapting in such a short time was simply unrealistic.

Even though Yisi believed she could instantly vaporize Samael with [Holy Light Array], just like last time, she chose not to. First, Samael’s survival was crucial to her plans. Second, she could use him to sharpen her combat skills.

So, Yisi opted for close-quarters combat.

Taking a step through the air, she closed the distance to Samael, who was still immobilized by the knockback effect of [Repulsion Ring], and threw a punch straight at his face.

Thud.

In an instant, her fist pierced through Samael’s head—yet it felt like striking cotton, with no tangible resistance. Then, like a weathered rock crumbling at the slightest touch, Samael dissolved into black mist and vanished before her eyes.

Complete energy transformation? An assassination technique? Or perhaps an ability unique to this world?

Countless possibilities flashed through Yisi’s mind. If she used God’s Eye again, she might be able to discern Samael’s abilities, but there was no room for distraction in battle.

“You let your guard down.”

A ghostly voice sounded behind her. Black mist coalesced into a solid form—contrary to Yisi’s expectations, Samael’s ability didn’t rely on shadows.

Without hesitation, Samael swung his scimitar downward, aiming to cleave Yisi in half.

Yisi sidestepped the attack, pivoted, and seized Samael’s sword-wielding wrist before twisting it violently.

Crack.

“Gah—AAAH!”

The excruciating pain from his dislocated joint contorted Samael’s face into a bestial snarl. With his free left hand, he swung wildly at Yisi’s temple.

So, his body isn’t fully energy-based.

Relieved by this realization, Yisi adjusted her strategy. If Samael had been fully intangible, she would’ve had no choice but to suppress him with wide-area holy magic—but that would’ve defeated the purpose of testing her combat prowess.

“Seems your melee skills are worse than mine.”

She deliberately taunted him, her tone mocking. Unable to dodge the punch aimed at her left cheek, Yisi chose instead to close the distance further.

This was, admittedly, a miscalculation on her part. Under normal circumstances, a dislocated joint would leave an opponent incapacitated—but Samael was no ordinary creature, and he retaliated regardless.

Taking the punch on her shoulder—it stung faintly, like being hit by a ten-year-old—Yisi drove her elbow into Samael’s chest.

“Ugh!”

The blow knocked the wind out of him, leaving him momentarily defenseless. Seizing the opportunity, Yisi pressed her advantage.

Still gripping Samael’s twisted arm, she adjusted her stance and slammed her elbow into his ribcage. Then—

“[Charge.]”

The first three skills enhanced her physical capabilities, while Charge—a basic warrior skill—propelled her forward in a straight line. But instead of breaking through a fortress, Yisi used Samael as a cushion, hurtling from dozens of meters in the air straight toward the ground.

BOOM!—

Like a meteor striking the earth, snow and shattered stone erupted upward. The impact sent ripples through the terrain, the ground buckling outward in concentric waves from the point of impact.

As dust clouded her vision, Yisi glanced at her omniscient map. The relentless assault had whittled Samael’s health down to less than 30%.

“Tch. Gone again.”

Once more, Samael vanished inexplicably, reappearing above the paladins.

“Agh—!”

“Hel—urk!”

A gray barrier abruptly expanded, and within moments, every paladin caught within it collapsed. Worse still, as if conducting some vile ritual, Samael stretched his wings to their fullest and raised his hands to the sky. A towering gray pillar of light erupted into the heavens.

Even a fool could tell—Samael was preparing a devastating spell.

“Everyone, retreat—NOW!”

The paladin commander’s roar and the screams of his men became the only backdrop.

“By the magic bestowed upon me by the Demon King—perish, you worms. [Forbidden Moon.] “

Forbidden Moon?

A spell Yisi had never heard of.

But she didn’t let her guard down. She could interrupt Samael’s casting, but that would be a waste. Without testing the waters, she’d never know just how threatening this world’s magic truly was.

Contrary to her expectations of a grandiose spectacle, all that manifested before Samael was a single gray spear. Unadorned by inscriptions, its ominous hum betrayed the power it contained.

Even so, Yisi found the spell underwhelming. A truly formidable spell should at least rival Holy Light Array in scale.

“Behold! This is the power of Lord Ouranos! Tremble before its might!”

His crimson eyes alight with fanaticism, Samael directed the spear toward Yisi, certain that Forbidden Moon—bestowed by Ouranos himself—would annihilate this wretched insect.

In the blink of an eye, the gray spear materialized before Yisi—

Only to shatter with a pathetic clink, falling harmlessly to the ground like a pebble tossed by a child.

[Absolute Defense]—a skill that negates any single non-ultra-tier attack within 0.3 seconds. One of Yisi’s strongest defensive abilities.

“…That’s it?”

Staring blankly at the dissipating spear, Yisi couldn’t help but feel disappointed.

[Absolute Defense] wasn’t a skill that could be spammed. At her current level, she could only use it four times a day—and she’d just wasted one charge on a laughably weak spell.

What struck Yisi as absurd was equally incomprehensible to Samael—if not more so.

“Im-impossible! No mortal can withstand this! This—this must be an illusion! Admit it, you’re gravely injured, aren’t you?!” His voice bordered on hysteria.

“…How dull.”

Yisi finally understood why the Count’s eldest daughter so often muttered those words. This was dull.

Weary of the farce, Yisi retrieved Gungnir—the weapon belonging to the Count’s daughter—from her inventory. After a brief heft, she locked onto the frenzied Samael hovering midair.

“Let’s end this.”

A flash of crimson—and Samael was no more.
