Volume 1, Chapter 6 – Discovered

The originally chaotic, nearly infinite warehouse suddenly contained unfamiliar items—such as the corpse of the Demon King Ouranos, some luxurious gowns and rapiers, and what appeared to be execution tools.

—These were the possessions of the Count’s eldest daughter.

The thought flashed through Yisi’s mind. Immediately after, she located a small amount of this world’s gold coins in the mental warehouse. Without hesitation, she retrieved them.

“I just remembered I exchanged some gold coins when passing through the last city. Can I use these?”

Yisi took out the currency that originally belonged to the Count’s eldest daughter. Though she felt guilty about spending someone else’s money, when she thought about it, simply using another person’s body was already an irredeemable sin.

The innkeeper’s wife widened her eyes in an instant, her mouth agape in exaggerated shock.

“This is… a Hyurent gold coin from the vampires? These are incredibly rare in the Holy Kingdom! Wait, young lady, are you really a vampire?”

“Huh?”

The woman’s words stunned Yisi for a moment.

“Y-you can’t be serious… Not only can you not stay here, but a vampire entering a core city of the Holy Kingdom is an enormous incident! I—I need to report this to the city guard!”

Her face instantly turned pale. The innkeeper’s wife dropped the coin, spun around without looking back, and fled the counter at a speed more akin to escaping disaster than merely leaving. Her expression reminded Yisi of a horror movie protagonist seeing a ghost.

However, the confusion only lasted a few seconds before Yisi realized the gravity of the situation.

Wait, are vampires not allowed in human cities?

“No, this city clearly has vampires living in it. And I passed the guards’ inspection—they let me in knowing I was a vampire. The innkeeper’s reaction makes no sense.”

Frowning, Yisi fell into deep thought. Neither the guards nor the farmers she met while queuing earlier, nor the residents on the streets after entering the city, had shown any fear of her. The innkeeper’s exaggerated terror was practically abnormal.

The moment the thought crossed her mind, Yisi heard hurried footsteps descending the stairs. Likely, the fleeing innkeeper had alerted others staying upstairs. A bald middle-aged man rushed down, only to slip at the sight of Yisi and tumble down the stairs.

But instead of cursing or clutching his injuries, the man scrambled up, limbs trembling as he shrieked:

“O—Oh, Goddess Ymir above! A—a vampire! Why is a vampire here?!”

“Hey—”

Yisi took a step toward him, and the man immediately threw his arms up in panic.

“Eeek! D-don’t eat me!”

Without even listening, the bald man scrambled back up the stairs on all fours. Moments later, Yisi heard panicked screams from the second floor, followed by a heavy thud—he had jumped out the window.

Once again, Yisi questioned whether vampires could truly coexist with humans in this city. Or rather, she was beginning to suspect that the relationship between vampires and humans was far less amicable than she had imagined.

The man’s reaction was nothing like someone accustomed to vampires. If this town truly permitted vampires, he wouldn’t have been so terrified.

“The earlier passersby… Did they think the Count’s daughter’s wings were just a child’s prank because of her youthful appearance? And that ‘only recognized Lord Assef’—was it referring to the sole vampire allowed in the city? The farmer even said I was from a circus troupe…”

As if connecting the dots, Yisi’s lips parted slightly, her expression turning complicated.

This city doesn’t allow vampires.

Everything made sense now.

“Something this absurd actually happened in reality…”

Reality was often more dramatic than fiction—a lesson Yisi was learning firsthand.

An alarm blared in her mind.

If this were true, her entering the city was like delivering herself to hunters. The priority now was to escape—perhaps using Advanced Teleportation.

“First, get as far away as possible.”

Yisi opened the Omniscient Map to set coordinates, but what she saw made her blood run cold—the entire town of Anor was surrounded by clusters of soldier markers. Not only that, but troops were already gathering outside the inn, their numbers increasing rapidly.

She had been discovered.

With no time to pick a safe location, Yisi randomly selected a spot and began chanting Advanced Teleportation. But just as she uttered the words, the inn’s door burst open.

A young, amiable-looking priest strode in, leading a squad of soldiers. Without even searching, his gaze locked onto Yisi standing stiffly in place. A visible look of relief crossed his face as he approached, speaking not with the tone of a judge, but like someone addressing an acquaintance.

“Lady Pescia, how could you wander so far?”
