Volume 2, Chapter 2 – Reinforcements

At this point, Yisi furrowed her brows in confusion. About two kilometers ahead of her, a group of light dots was chasing another group of light dots across the map. At first, Yisi thought it might be nobles engaged in a hunt, but upon zooming in, she realized it was actually monsters pursuing humans.

“What about Samael? I remember you mentioned, Onee-sama, that you couldn’t determine his level. He himself admitted that fallen angels don’t have levels, yet every creature on this continent has a level—even newborn babies and ordinary beings without magic start at Level 1.”

“Perhaps the demon race isn’t native to this world. Well, that’s just my personal opinion. Considering lower-tier demons do have levels, maybe it’s just a bug in the world’s system—forgetting to assign levels to fallen angels.”

“Bug…?”

Camilla’s face showed confusion. Since it was a term from another world, her pronunciation was slightly off when she read it aloud.

Yisi secretly stuck out her tongue.

“Don’t worry about it. Even though I don’t know why Samael wants to assassinate me, no matter how many they send, I’ll tie them up and deliver them to Count Pescia.”

“Onee-sama seems very confident.”

“Of course.”

Still concerned about the chase happening two kilometers away, Yisi glanced again at the Omniscient Map. This time, her expression turned grim—the number of fleeing light dots had decreased. And the disappearance of a light dot could only mean one thing: death.

“Camilla, prepare for battle.”

“Yes.”

The previously relaxed atmosphere instantly grew tense. Camilla immediately retrieved a magic staff from her storage spell, while Yisi readied Gungnir. Given the speed of the light dots, it wouldn’t be long before they reached her and Camilla. But waiting passively wasn’t an option. Even without knowing the full situation ahead, they had to secure a tactical advantage.

Yisi placed a hand on Camilla’s shoulder and set the teleportation coordinates.

“[Advanced Teleportation.]”

The sounds of panicked screams and the heavy panting of beasts filled their ears. A pack of wolf-like monsters with icy-blue fur, each over two meters long, was chasing a convoy of carriages. Realizing they were at a speed disadvantage, the seven carriages gradually came to a stop, forming a defensive circle with the merchants and guards inside. Whenever the wolves drew near, arrows shot out from the circle, felling one or two of the creatures.

Further along the escape route, a few smaller wolves could be seen scattered about, gnawing on the corpses of those who had fallen.

Apart from these two groups, the wilderness was devoid of other life.

“A merchant convoy under attack by monsters…”

“Onee-sama, those are Frostwolves. With so many of them, an ordinary convoy wouldn’t stand a chance.”

“So they’re holding their ground and waiting for reinforcements?”

The Frostwolves were all around Level 7, numbering nearly twenty. The convoy’s guards, on the other hand, had fewer than ten members, with the highest being only Level 7 and most below Level 5. Though they were maintaining a fragile balance thanks to their weapons, once night fell, the situation would take a sharp turn for the worse.

“Camilla, can you handle the smaller wolves over there? I’ll deal with the ones surrounding the convoy.”

The smaller wolves were below Level 3 and physically weaker. Though there were three of them, Camilla’s combat experience was more than enough to handle them.

“But you’ll be alone…”

“It’s fine.”

With a wave at Camilla, Yisi dashed toward the convoy.

She chose not to use flight magic to avoid revealing her full strength. In this world, flight magic had extremely stringent requirements, and those who could use it were invariably labeled as powerful. While power could deter trouble, it could also attract unwanted attention from even stronger entities.

Yisi was indeed far stronger than the average person—even fallen angels were no match for her. But how could she be sure there weren’t others like her in this world—players who had crossed over and inherited formidable abilities?

If such individuals were benevolent, communication might be possible. But if they were the type to abuse their power, negotiations would be far more difficult. Yisi didn’t consider herself a pushover who would tolerate being bullied.

That said, she also didn’t want to be constrained by these uncertain possibilities. Her reason for hiding her strength was primarily to avoid unnecessary complications in daily life. Just imagine—if too many people knew how strong she was, what would happen? Countless individuals seeking power would come knocking, hoping to learn from her. Not only did she have nothing to teach them, but she also disliked crowded gatherings. Compared to fame, she preferred a low-key, carefree existence.

Besides, hiding her strength wouldn’t negatively impact her life. To that end, Yisi had discussed a cover story with Camilla before setting out.

She would pose as Yisi, a Level 10 daughter of a wealthy merchant whose family had fallen on hard times, forcing her and her younger sister to make their own way in the world. Initially, she thought Camilla—with her taller stature and more mature appearance—would be better suited to play the older sister role. But since Camilla absolutely refused to drop the “Onee-sama” honorific, Yisi had no choice but to continue as the elder sibling.

.

Although this made Yisi, who was something of a sister-con, quite regretful.

“Don’t fire arrows randomly! Wait for my command when those beasts get closer! Hold out long enough, and other convoys will come to our aid!”

“Boss, they’re coming again!”

“Wait! Let them get closer! If we run out of arrows, we’re finished!”

Amid the shouting, Yisi recognized a familiar voice. As she ran, she couldn’t help but smile wryly. Who would’ve thought she’d run into Nix here? Of course, she had to pretend to be a stranger now—after all, her current identity wasn’t that of a vampire.

“Let’s make this a little flashy.”

Positioning herself where the Frostwolves wouldn’t immediately spot her, Yisi channeled magic into Gungnir. While the spear’s innate ability was limited to auto-tracking targets, with her power enhancing it, the weapon became far more versatile.

Selecting the densest cluster of wolves about a hundred meters away, Yisi hurled Gungnir with all her might. The spear, now glowing a blinding crimson, shot forth and pierced through three Frostwolves before embedding itself in the dirt on the other side.

“Awooo!”

The attack instantly drew the pack’s attention to Yisi’s location—and the convoy’s people noticed her as well.

“Friend over there, please hold on a little longer! I’ll make sure you’re handsomely rewarded!”

“Obviously.”

Muttering under her breath, Yisi considered picking up a few stones to use as weapons. But realizing that defeating the wolves with mere rocks might seem too shocking, she dismissed the idea and instead pulled out a decorative magic staff from her inventory.

“Better use this.”

With a light wave of the staff, Yisi put on a tense expression, staring down the approaching wolves as if facing a dire threat.
