Volume 2, Chapter 3 – Yisi’s Future Plans

“Lady Pescia, thank you for your assistance. Having been saved by you twice now, I don’t even know how to repay your kindness.”

Thanks to Yisi’s help, the ice wolves fled after losing about half their numbers, and the trapped merchant caravan was rescued. Nix was now bowing repeatedly to Yisi with deep gratitude, while the guards and family members nearby also expressed their thanks. Some even burst into tears of relief at their salvation.

However, Nix’s words only troubled Yisi. Her current identity was that of a human, not a vampire. Nix didn’t mind her race because she had once saved his daughter, but to everyone else here, vampires were still terrifying creatures.

Perhaps the resemblance was too strong, leading to the mistake. The “Second Form Awakening” had only hidden her vampire wings and turned her original white hair into silver streaked with a faint blue hue. Her facial features remained those of the cold, aristocratic eldest daughter.

Deliberately tilting her head with a troubled expression, Yisi let her silver twin tails sway slightly.

“If you’re referring to Loiswell Edith Pescia, I think you’ve mistaken me for someone else. I’m a human born in the Niru Parish.”

“But you look just like Lady Pescia…”

Nix frowned slightly, trying to spot any differences in Yisi’s face.

“There’s a bit of a backstory to that. If you’d like to know, we can discuss it another time. For now, shouldn’t we assess the casualties?”

Just as Yisi deftly changed the subject, Camilla walked up to her, holding two wolf pups by the scruff of their necks.

“Onee-sama, I—” Halfway through her sentence, Camilla recognized Nix standing before Yisi. Remembering their cover story, her previously relaxed expression immediately stiffened. “Nix? What are you doing here?”

“Miss Camilla? Then this lady addressed as ‘Onee-sama’ is… Ah, I see. If she’s an illegitimate child, that would explain the complications.”

Assuming Yisi was the Count’s illegitimate daughter, Nix nodded to himself, his gaze now tinged with sympathy. He stopped pressing about her identity and instead bowed deeply again.

“In that case, I’ll go have my men assess the damages. Please wait here for a moment, Miss Savior.”

“Of course.”

“Everyone, disperse! Load the goods back onto the wagons and take a headcount!”

Watching Nix turn away to bark orders, Yisi sighed in relief. If not for Nix’s mistaken assumption, she wouldn’t have known how to explain Camilla’s presence.

Perhaps she should talk to Camilla later about calling her by name instead of “Onee-sama.” Aside from the risk of being recognized by acquaintances, every time Camilla called her “Onee-sama,” Yisi felt both embarrassed and a strange loss of dignity.

If Camilla called her “Brother,” it might even be more endearing.

Damn it, why did I have to reincarnate into the body of the Count’s eldest daughter?

Whenever this thought crossed her mind, Yisi felt a surge of frustration. She wouldn’t have minded being reborn as a beautiful young man—or even as Count Pescia himself.

Though Count Pescia was nearly a hundred years old, he appeared to be in his early thirties. If he were a bit more mature, with a neatly trimmed beard, he’d perfectly match Yisi’s ideal of a charming man. Of course, “charming man” here referred to someone she aspired to be. Yisi had already decided that even if she had to live in this body for the rest of her life, she would only pursue beautiful older women as romantic partners.

Even if she no longer had… certain important things.

Then, she felt something furry brush against her cheek.

Yisi instinctively looked up and saw a fluffy white pup—likely a wolf—snarling and baring its tiny fangs at her.

“Quiet.”

Probably thinking that the young wolf’s baring of teeth and brandishing of claws was a show of defiance toward Yisi, Camilla stepped on another pup with her foot, then used her freed right hand to pat the pup she was holding in her left. Like a child being scolded by its mother, the patted pup immediately became much more well-behaved, letting out a small, aggrieved whimper.

For some reason, the scene now struck Is as rather cute, and she asked with a light laugh.

“Camilla, what’s this…?”

“When you told me to deal with the three smaller wolves earlier, I found two even younger pups behind them, so I brought them back. Ice wolves aren’t rare magical beasts, but once trained, they become fiercely loyal. Many nobles keep them as status symbols to flaunt their family’s prestige, so their pups fetch a high price on the market.”

“And Camilla’s personal thoughts?”

“They might serve as guard dogs for Onee-sama’s tavern.”

As she spoke, Camilla pulled out a rough hemp rope and tied it around the pups’ necks. It was clear she had no intention of being gentle—this was purely to keep them from escaping.

The way the rope dug into their fur made Yisi break out in a cold sweat.

“Camilla really doesn’t like animals, huh?”

“I only like Onee-sama. If you don’t need them, I’ll cook them for dinner.”

“But they’re so cute…”

In her previous world, Yisi had always loved animals but had never been able to keep any due to various constraints.

As for Camilla’s mention of “Onee-sama’s tavern,” it referred to an idea Yisi had proposed before their journey.

Upon arriving in the human world, blood would naturally become an issue—the “Second Form Awakening” had only altered her appearance, not her vampiric instincts or need for blood. While she could simply visit brothels or slave markets to satisfy her hunger, Yisi wasn’t content with mere survival.

Before leaving Niru City, Yisi had collected blood from her blood servants. All seven had been slaves on the brink of starvation, rescued from the dungeons and given food and shelter by her.

When she later sampled their stored blood, she noticed a significant improvement in flavor—less sour and more mellow or even sweet. Though she lacked a control group, Yisi believed that blood from healthy individuals tasted better than that from the malnourished. To ensure quality, she would need to source blood from healthy people moving forward.

But she couldn’t exactly walk the streets shouting for blood donations—that would get her arrested on the spot. Hence, the idea of opening a tavern: a legitimate business by day, and a place to discreetly collect blood from willing patrons by night.

Of course, given the physical limitations of the Count’s daughter, the tavern would cater exclusively to women. So rather than a traditional bar, it would specialize in lighter fare like fruit wines or sweet liquors.
