Volume 2, Chapter 11 – The Watcher
“Uh…” A sudden association with adult-themed manga scenes made Yisi feel awkward. “This is…”
“Onee-sama’s prepared bed feels somewhat… strange.”
Despite her words, Camilla showed no sign of hesitation. On the contrary, she walked straight to the bed. The adorable octopus-headed creature immediately made space equivalent to Camilla’s height as she approached.
It must be said that the Kraken’s Slumber only resembled the protagonists of adult manga in appearance. In reality, it neither secreted mucus nor possessed strong self-awareness. If anything, its temperament was quite similar to a domesticated dog—capable of full-body massages at the right time and even adjusting temperature. However, since Yisi had never used it before, she was unaware of these details.
Seeing Camilla about to sit on the bed, Yisi quickly pulled her away.
“No, no, this is just an accident. There should be better options for a bed—hm, I’ll go buy one now. Camilla, you go clean the other rooms first.”
“I can do that… but could you leave small tasks like shopping to me in the future?”

“Absolutely no problem.”
Nodding repeatedly to Camilla, who had never read adult manga, Yisi swiftly closed the bedroom door and hurried out of the tavern under the cover of night.

“Honestly, running into something like this.”
Yisi clicked her tongue as she walked back home. In this otherworld, ready-made beds weren’t a thing—they usually had to be custom-ordered in advance. As a result, Yisi failed to buy a bed and had no choice but to purchase bed sets from a nearby inn, including bedding and other accessories. Two beds cost her seven silver coins in total.
Additionally, considering the tavern needed new tables and chairs, Yisi also placed an order for a batch of modest-quality furniture at the carpenter’s workshop before leaving. According to the craftsman, the custom-made furniture would take about a week to complete.
“That said, the Kraken’s Slumber is a rare item that permanently boosts personal attributes. I should test its risks when I get back. If it’s just visually unsettling but actually harmless, it’s worth keeping. Camilla’s level is too low.”

Though Yisi could protect Camilla from danger if needed, it would still be better to enhance Camilla’s own abilities if possible.
As she pondered this, Yisi frowned. Ever since leaving the tavern, she’d felt like something was watching her. At first, the sensation was faint, but now it had grown impossible to ignore.
She instinctively glanced around—the narrow alley sandwiched between two-story buildings was pitch-black, cluttered with discarded wooden crates, bamboo poles, planks, and other debris. Filthy water flowed freely, emitting a foul stench. Occasionally, faint rustling sounds could be heard. Thanks to her vampiric night vision, she could see mice scattering along the base of the walls.
No one else was in the alley, barely wide enough for two people to walk side by side.
Maintaining her leisurely pace, Yisi activated the Omniscient Map.
“Nothing there… Was I imagining it?”
Turning a corner, Yisi hid in a secluded spot by the wall, waiting for any potential pursuer. Even if it was just her imagination, this wasn’t a safe utopia—it was a dangerous otherworld plagued by hunger. Caution was always better than carelessness.

Nearly ten minutes passed in near-silence, broken only by the wind. Still, no movement.
It seemed she had over-thought it. Walking alone at night really could make one feel like they were being followed.
Then—
Tap.
A hand landed on her shoulder. Every hair on her body stood on end, her skin prickling with goosebumps. In such moments, hesitation could be fatal. Without a second’s delay, Yisi spun around and, without even looking at who was behind her, drove her elbow backward with enough force to shatter city walls.
A dull thud of impact, followed by the crack of breaking bones, then the clatter of something metallic hitting the ground.
“Gah—!!”

The man who had been sent flying clutched his stomach, writhing in agony.
Just some guy trying to hit on her.
Yisi frowned slightly. She’d been too tense—normally, she wouldn’t have used so much force.
Of course, she had no intention of healing him. Given the time and place, even if the woman refused, the man would’ve likely resorted to force. Judging by the small knife that had fallen beside him, had she reacted any slower, she might’ve been threatened with it. Such a person didn’t deserve sympathy—if anything, she was doing the world a favor by removing a pest.
Pulling out a leftover copper coin from her pocket, Yisi tossed it onto the ground.
“Consider this a lesson. Next time, I’ll hand you over to the patrol.”
Without waiting for a response, she strode off toward the tavern.
