Volume 2, Chapter 27 – Darc’s Defeat

For example, brandy, a type of distilled liquor, is made from fermented grapes, while vodka is produced by fermenting and distilling potatoes, corn, or wheat. The production processes for distilled liquors are largely similar, with the main differences lying in the ingredients. However, Yisi had no intention of recreating them all. Alcohol was not blood, and she saw no need to invest excessive effort into it.

“Who is this mysterious person? Ah, no—what I mean is, could Miss Yisi tell me her address?”

The goblin merchant couldn’t wait to ask. After tasting it himself, he had already recognized the opportunity hidden within.

“Well… to be honest, I don’t know either. The mysterious lady only periodically delivers supplies to the tavern I purchased, and I act as the merchant selling Margaret. Beyond that, I have no further information. She seems unwilling to interact with strangers—it took me a great deal of effort just to get a chance to speak with her.”

The mysterious person was, in fact, herself. The reason for creating this fictional figure was simply to guard against nosy individuals. The principle of “a man’s wealth is his own ruin” was easy to understand.

“Periodically? Could I meet her too?”

“No. If I took you to see her, she would surely resent me. If you absolutely must meet her, I can relay a message for you. If she’s willing, she’ll come to see you herself.”

“I’ll return now to fetch the deposit.”

Before leaving, he didn’t forget to finish the remaining distilled liquor in his cup. Reluctantly smacking his lips, the shrewd goblin finally departed from the agency.

Yisi turned her gaze to Darc, who had abandoned his earlier bold approach to drinking and was now sipping the liquor delicately—a manner utterly at odds with his rugged appearance. Amused, she couldn’t resist teasing him.

“Mr. Darc, this doesn’t quite match your earlier bravado.”

“Uh, Miss Yisi, please don’t tease me. Even someone like me can’t handle this… this ‘Mar…'”

“Margaret.”

“Right, this Margaret. It’s too much for me.”

Yisi could even see Darc’s face beginning to flush—a sign that his body wasn’t fully metabolizing the alcohol.

She reached over and stroked Mary’s head, the smooth texture of her chestnut hair making it impossible to resist.

“So, Mr. Darc, do you think it tastes bad?”

“Good, of course it’s good! If possible, I’d love to have a small glass every day. Just a small one.”

“And what about the promotion? Due to limited supply, Margaret will be quite expensive.”

Taking Yisi’s hint, Darc thumped his chest emphatically.

“Leave it to me! The cost of promotion will be… the remaining half-barrel here.”

“No, that’s all the stock I have right now. If you’re willing, you can come to the tavern later to enjoy it. I’ll sell it to you at a discount.”

“Mm, fine.”

“Then let’s not delay—let’s sign the contract first.”

Yisi pulled out the contract Camilla had prepared earlier from her pocket. Though she could have taken advantage of Darc’s drunkenness to push through unreasonable terms, what she wanted was a merchant who would cooperate sincerely. Thus, the terms were entirely fair.

After signing her name on the contract with a quill, she slid the paper over to Darc—only to be met with soft snoring.

Darc had fallen asleep.

“Master, should we wake Mr. Darc?”

Mary, who had also noticed, asked cautiously.

Yisi stood up with a smile. Her mood had improved so much that she felt like picking Mary up and showering her with kisses—but she restrained herself. If Mary were truly 12 years old, she might have done it. But Mary was already 15, old enough to be called a young woman.

Ahem. “No need. Let’s head back first. Once Darc wakes up and sees we’re gone, he’ll come looking for us. He won’t let this opportunity slip away.”

With that thought, Yisi glanced back at Darc, sprawled across the table and snoring loudly. A mischievous idea suddenly popped into her mind. She took out a pen and paper from her storage again, quickly scribbled something, and stuck it onto Darc’s reflective bald head.

[Mr. Darc’s alcohol tolerance is surprisingly impressive.]
