Chapter 29 The First Student
Locke saluted Teacher Sophia and said, “I will follow your instructions in everything. You are my teacher.”
Teacher Sophia’s expression seemed to have a hint of relief. “Well, you can be considered my first real student.”
“But I originally thought that the academy wouldn’t assign me a student within ten years, so there aren’t any extra dormitories here for you.”
Locke said, “Teacher Sophia, I can find a place to live in the port city.”
Teacher Sophia nodded. “You don’t have to be so reserved.”
“The academy has a rule that requires students to become second-class wizard apprentices within five years, otherwise they will be expelled. For wizard apprentices with a qualification of level 5 or above, there is no need to worry about this. They will almost certainly become second-class wizard apprentices within two or three years of enrollment.”
“But you don’t have to be nervous. As long as you study hard, it won’t be difficult to become a second-class wizard apprentice within five years.”
Teacher Sophia said, “I’ve looked at your schedule. Starting tomorrow, you’ll be taking public courses: Basic Spell Principles, Basic Magic Mechanics, and Basic Runes.”
“I will work out your professional course schedule for you today.”
“If you have five hundred magic stones, I recommend you buy a meditation method from me. That way you will make rapid progress.”
Locke didn’t understand what meditation meant, but he knew his magic stone was still minus 20, so he said honestly, “Teacher, I come from the mortal world across the sea. I don’t have any magic stone.”
Witch Sophia didn’t show any special expression, but just began to think seriously. “Oh, so that’s it.”
“That’s a little troublesome. The meditation methods I have are all subject to contractual restrictions. I can’t give them to you casually. Unless you actively purchase them from me.”
“But it doesn’t matter. During this period, most wizards didn’t have magic stones to buy meditation methods, so they all learned spells and accumulated mental power to become second-class wizard apprentices.”
Witch Sophia said, “The difference between a second-class wizard apprentice and a third-class wizard apprentice is that a second-class wizard apprentice will have at least 50 points of mental power.”
“Other than that, the difference isn’t huge.”
“The first spell you learned was Hand of Vine, huh? Your secondary compatible element is gold.”
Locke asked, “Teacher, is this strange?”
Teacher Sophia said, “It’s nothing.”
“However, this gold element is generally quite rare.”
Teacher Sophia stared at Locke. She was very interested in her first official student and said, “I suspect you have some special bloodline, because the compatibility with the gold element is very rare.”
“You can learn the very rare golden magic. There is no such magic in Lilith’s hut.”
“But I do have some related collections. They all require a certain fee.”
Instructor Sophia said, “How about this? Would you be willing to spend 120 magic stones to have a bloodline tracing test done with me? Who knows, you might find something unexpected, and I can also better plan your study plan for you.”
Locke was a little tempted when he heard this, but the problem was that he really had no money now.
He wanted it all and wanted to find a way to earn magic stones as soon as possible.
Locke shook his head helplessly. “Teacher, I don’t have any money.”
Teacher Sophia sighed. “Students coming from across the sea do have a hard time at first.”
Locke was thoughtful about the special bloodline that witch Sophia mentioned. He thought of the witch mother of the original owner mentioned by Count Augustine.
Because Sophia was so easygoing, Locke boldly asked her, “Teacher, do you know how to earn magic stones?”
“I also want to earn more magic stones to buy resources.”
Sophia followed Locke’s line of thought and looked at his file. “Let me help you take a look.”
“Let me see what you can do.”
“There are many traps in Lilith’s Hut. For example, wizards from outside the Hut, or even wizards within the Hut, may offer you a loan of magic stones on the condition that you help them conduct experiments and become their experimental subject. Remember to refuse all requests related to this, understand.”
“No matter how nice they say it.”
Mentor Sophia frowned and said, “They’re counting on you, these young wizards, to deceive them.”
Mentor Sophia said, “By accepting the academy’s missions, you can accumulate contribution points and magic stones, but most of those missions are very dangerous for you.”
“It includes patrolling the city, hunting magical creatures, obtaining magical materials, etc., which are suitable for second-level wizard apprentices.”
“It’s a relatively safe academy mission, but it requires some professional skills and a wizard level.”
Mentor Sophia pondered, “Or I could do some hard labor, like helping a second-class wizard apprentice or a first-class wizard apprentice who’s in need, processing some simple but repetitive magical materials…”
“Hmm? Before you boarded the wizard ship, did you help a second-class wizard apprentice complete the stone crab potion?”
Locke nodded. “Yes, teacher.”
“But I just used the mana centrifugal extraction method to help him complete the basic work.”
Mentor Sophia laughed. “How complicated can a potion made by a second-class wizard apprentice be? The most difficult part is probably the centrifugal extraction of mana.”
“This file is really interesting. It’s not that you helped the apprentice complete the stone crab potion, but that he helped you complete the potion.”
“But the Stone Crab Bloodline Transformation Potion… I’ve heard of that infamous potion. It has so many side effects. I never thought anyone would drink that. Anyone who drinks it probably won’t live long.”
Locke nodded, because Professor Old really didn’t have long to live.
Teacher Sophia pointed to a small stool nearby and said, “Then please move a stool and sit down for a while. I’ll test your mana centrifugal extraction method later.”
“Right now, I’m designing a very complicated first-level potion refining process, so don’t disturb me.”
“I am a first-ring potion pharmacist. If you truly master the mana centrifugal extraction method, I can entrust some of my work to you.”
“When the time comes, I will pay you a certain amount of magic stones as compensation.”
Locke never expected that the skill he learned in Corfu could help him earn his first magic stone after entering the wizarding world.
Moreover, Locke also realized one thing, that in the process of refining potions, specific high-level resources are most needed.
And this is exactly where Horadric’s synthesis of the Rubik’s Cube can help him the most.
