Chapter 145 - 142: I Am Here to Kill You
Chapter 145 - 142: I Am Here to Kill You
At the same time, they began to doubt Ling Qingxue’s character. If she had known how to disguise herself since she was eight, just how deep did her scheming run? How terrifying would she become in the future?
On the other side, Shi Muyao of the Asura Conglomerate felt an inexplicable mix of emotions. For one, she felt that Mo Qianqian had truly suffered too many grievances and blows. Even his affair with Zhongli Xuan and their subsequent divorce might have been part of his plan to trap and kill the Ling Family’s forces. Secondly, marrying into the South Wilderness Shi Family as a live-in son-in-law had become a mark of shame for him—a weapon these major families used to humiliate him. This made her feel awful. However, she had to admit that a small family from a remote place like the Shi Family was indeed nothing in the eyes of these powerful Central Earth factions.
Many in the crowd couldn’t help but feel sympathy for Mo Qianqian. This was especially true for the smaller Central Earth families present. They had all been oppressed by the three major families to some extent and had done plenty of dirty work for them. As for their rewards—or even their very survival—it all depended on the whims of those major families. The people of the Lie Family and the Yuwen Family knew all too well that they had lost quite a few Spirit Mines to the Ling Family. And the primary contributor to the Ling Family’s success was none other than Mo Qianqian. The Ling Family’s ruthless strategy left them thoroughly astounded. Even their two major families hadn’t gone to such extremes.
"Mo Qianqian, you’re spouting baseless slander!"
"Our Ling Family protected you for eight years! Yet here you are, twisting the truth and slandering our Young Master! How can your heart be so black!"
"Don’t think a few words of slander can destroy our Ling Family!"
The members of the Ling Family were furious, each of them breaking into angry curses. Regardless of the reason, airing their dirty laundry on the day of the Ling Family’s grand wedding was a direct slap to their face.
"Mo Qianqian, do you think just because we benefited and you were kicked out of the Ling Family, whatever you say becomes the truth?" Ling Qingxue stepped forward, her voice icy. "The weak aren’t automatically in the right. Your slander is completely useless!"
"Slander?" Mo Qianqian retorted coldly. "I’ll make you admit it with your own mouth!
"Today, I haven’t just come to talk.
"I have come to kill you!"
With that said, Mo Qianqian hurled the coffin on his shoulder forward.
"Ling Qingxue, do you dare to fight me? A battle to the death?" Mo Qianqian’s voice rolled like thunder, echoing through the clouds. He swung the spear in his other hand, letting out a powerful, ringing clash.
CRASH!
Immediately after, the coffin slammed into the ground right in front of Ling Qingxue, Patriarch Ling, and the rest of the crowd. The onlookers gasped in shock. Mo Qianqian actually wanted to challenge Ling Qingxue? A fight to the death?
"Mo Qianqian, what right do you have to demand a fight with our Young Master?"
"Who do you think you are, demanding a challenge whenever you please?"
"Causing trouble on a wedding day—do you think we’ll give you the chance? Do you think the Ling Family is that easy to bully?"
A barrage of furious shouts erupted from the Ling Family.
"Mo Qianqian, where is the person backing you? Call him out. On your own, you are not qualified to challenge the Ling Family’s genius," Patriarch Ling said calmly, his eyes scanning the surroundings in all directions.
Only then did the crowd realize. So the reason the Ling Family didn’t immediately attack Mo Qianqian was that they wanted to take out his backer as well. Now that he had entered the Ling Family’s domain, he definitely couldn’t escape. All they were waiting for was the person behind him. In truth, no one knew who that person was or how strong they were. They only knew that Mo Qianqian had brought an old man along to annihilate the Southern Wilderness Cloud Void Sect and the South Wilderness Qin Family. The onlookers were quite curious to see just how powerful that backer was, and whether Mo Qianqian’s courage to waltz in relied entirely on them.
"What? Is the Ling Family’s number one genius, the talent currently ranked first on the Hidden Dragon List, too afraid to fight me?" Mo Qianqian retorted. "If Ling Qingxue doesn’t dare, do any of the other youths in the Ling Family dare to step up?
"Anyone under thirty, I, Mo Qianqian, will kill without fail!" he declared loudly, shifting his gaze to Ling Lang, who stood beside Ling Qingxue.
Ling Lang’s expression stiffened. If anyone had suffered the greatest humiliation today, it was undoubtedly him. Today was his wedding day, yet Mo Qianqian had come to crash it. If he didn’t kill Mo Qianqian—and kill him decisively—this incident would become a lifelong laughingstock for him.
"Too afraid? The entire young generation of the Ling Family is beneath my boot. How can you still speak of marriage alliances or a grand future?" Mo Qianqian continued to goad them, not giving the Ling Family a chance to interject.
"Patriarch, don’t waste your breath on him. Let me kill Mo Qianqian!" Ling Guang abruptly stepped forward, the aura of the Sixth Level of Tongyou Realm erupting from his body, his killing intent incredibly dense. He reasoned that if the person behind Mo Qianqian was truly that powerful, they would have attacked by now. Moreover, with the defenses laid out today, even the strongest expert wouldn’t be able to turn the tides. If they let Mo Qianqian keep talking, the Ling Family’s dignity would be completely dragged through the mud. He could barely contain his fury.
"Patriarch Ling, he’s right. If the great Ling Family doesn’t even dare to fight someone whose Spirit Vein was crippled, it’s hard to imagine the Ling Family having any future, even if they align with the most powerful of factions." The Eldest Prince spoke up, his tone thick with sarcasm and ulterior motives. Obviously, the Eldest Prince had begun to pressure the Ling Family. It was also a warning directed at any other factions looking to side with them. If they didn’t have the courage to face a challenge from a man they had previously crippled, what future could they possibly have? Did the current generation of the Ling Family even have any bloodlust or promise left?
"The Eldest Prince is right. All your vassal families and the factions that hold expectations for the Ling Family are watching. If the Ling Family only knows how to use its elders to bully the young, it’s hard to see what future your next generation holds," the Yu Wen Family Head chimed in, his tone cryptic. It was a clear implication that if the Yuwen Family were to choose the Ling Family, the latter would have to prove their true worth. Patriarch Lie didn’t say a word, merely crossing his arms to watch the show. The other factions, on the other hand, didn’t dare to speak up—or saw no need to. Speaking now would only fan the flames, and they didn’t have the backing of a major family or the royal court to protect them.
At the words of the Eldest Prince and the Yu Wen Family Head, Patriarch Ling’s expression turned ugly. This was exactly what the royal family and the Yuwen Family wanted to see. It was even possible that the royal family was secretly supporting Mo Qianqian from behind the scenes.
"Don’t you want the supreme treasure I carry? If your younger generation can kill me and take it, perhaps no one else will have reason to object." To ensure he got the chance to kill Ling Qingxue, Mo Qianqian continued his provocation, "But if your shameless elders attack first, I’m afraid no one will acknowledge your victory."
As soon as he said this, the members of the Ling Family furrowed their brows deeply. Not just the Ling Family; the faces of the people from the Lie Family, the Yuwen Family, and the others all revealed looks of covetousness. Truth be told, they even felt the urge to charge forward first, kill him, and snatch the treasure for themselves.
"Mo Qianqian, have you said enough?"
At that moment, Ling Lang strode forward.
