Prologue:
Special Business Days
My shop can be found in the basement of a building just around the entrance of the shopping arcade near the office district, only a five-minute walk from the train station of this small town.
Its name is “Western Cuisine Nekoya.” My gramps started this place up some fifty odd years ago. We’ve been going ever since!
I know it says “western cuisine” in the name and all, but Gramps could be pretty whatever when it came to names. Our restaurant is well known for serving all sorts of dishes, western or otherwise.
Lunchtime is typically from 11 AM to 3 PM, with dinnertime being from 5 to 9 PM at night. The only day we’re not open is Saturday, when the office district is fast asleep.
The most expensive item on the menu is 1,000 yen, and we offer free refills on rice, bread, and soup. See? We’re not so different from most other joints out there.
…Well, except for one kinda strange thing that’s unique to Nekoya.
I guess…
Every Saturday is a “special business day” here at the restaurant.
“Didn’t you just say you were closed on Saturdays?” you ask? Well, yeah. That’s why it’s special.
Saturdays are when we get customers from the “other side.”
All I really know is that Gramps started doing this thirty years ago. The only thing that matters to me is that there are folks over there who look forward to eating my food and indulging in my good buddy’s cakes. That alone is enough for me.
Oh, that’s right! I almost forgot.
The folks from the other side have a special name for Nekoya.
They call it…
The Restaurant to Another World.
